So out of 50 states in the USA, 43 of them are all pretty much guaranteed to have the majority vote for the same candidate every election, so every election is dependent on what happens with these 7 swing states, barring any major upsets with the other 43? Is this correct?

Not a US citizen here, just trying to make sense of it all.
Yeah

Would probably be surprising, but NYT projector has 6/7 leaning Trump with only WI at 50/50. Of course it's just a projector, but all signs are bad at the moment.

It's why I and no doubt others would be interested in seeing the breakdown of the 43 States and how they vote usually so we can get a sense of which of the swing states are most important to each candidate.

Detroit metro + Ann Arbor and Grand Rapids with Lansing pulled Dems out of hole. Id be surprised if the same doesn't happen again. Last time that didn't come through until fairly late.
Yeah but John king on CNN was saying Detroit is showing a little participation this year plus those college students protested heavily against the Israel Hamas war.

could RFK really cost Trump Iowa?

if that happens Trump will be livid and probably disown him in terms of working in his staff

So are people getting their panties in a twist or are we actually fecked? I remember Biden being down by tons and then just surging ahead as the major population centers came in. We aren’t expecting something similar?

Republicans always run up early leads because it's faster to count rural places than urban. Nothing means anything yet.

Very possible, but the pessimism if you're anti Trump is fair for now.

He's a 78 year old fat cnut, would he see out the full term?

Good 40% of the electorate thinks he is the fittest person ever, he broke the brains of tens of millions of people.

Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Nevada, North Carolina, Georgia
Maybe Iowa

Having lived in the USA for twenty years, I can say that they are amongst the stupidest people on the planet, so anything is possible tonight.

Definitely the former, not the latter. She is still on course to win the blue wall, which is what she needs to win the Presidency. Lets see what happens in PA.

Any chance of a bigger upset? 10 point shift is huge but looking at it its shouldn't have been really close at all.
It's not a 10 point swing, Biden won by 10.1%.

The NC call by Decision Desk is kinda insane, btw, similar to the Arizona Fox call. They might well be right, but so many suburbs still outstanding and almost nothing from Charlotte.

Say more nice things

I need to be comforted

Gwinnett county in GA has 399k mail in ballots to be counted but apparently there is some problem/delay with the software so they are delayed. Thats a democratic stronghold.
GA has 1.5 million to count yet, mostly in large suburban areas

I was there for a few months, and met some wonderfully kind and generous people.

However, I also saw some pretty impressive stupidity at the same time, so yeah..... gonna be interesting, that's for sure.

I know who the States are, they're plastered everywhere and what they worth in terms of the EC, but what about the other 43 and how they lean?

Based on the results so far I get the picture the swing states are more important to the democrats than to the republicans.

I just dumped my profit fom trading the market earlier on Kamala to win from here

odds look good now IMO (20%) considiering its looking kinda okay

bring on the blue wave!

My black lesbian womens hockey fan friends in PA is voting for Trump today, so I know Trump would have a decent chance to compete in PA!

Important to both sides because it swings elections. The electoral count of the other 40+ states aren’t enough to win the election respectively.

Democrats need 44 electoral votes from swing states, Republicans 51. This time at least. So they are more important to Republicans this time round.
