2024 Summer Olympics (Paris)

The 0.1 second reaction time seems a pretty arbitrary threshold for judging false starts. Would have thought you’d be automatically allowed to run under protest when you’re so close to that cut-off point. Azu was just 0.03 seconds under that cut-off point.
He was 0.03 seconds under that cut off point. A fairly big difference. I believe that 0.1 is actually pretty close to the timing that the vast majority of people can actually react to something without pre-empting it. In the rounds, he'd have been better holding but quick starting is his forte

I've seen them go 0.098/0.099 and be DQ'd.

I think there's probably something in the crowd noise and protesting may get him a rerun! The holds seem to be long at the start too.

What is the point of a cox in rowing?

What is a cox box? And why is the stroke seat so important ...

The cox is the only person on a boat during a race who doesn't hold an oar. Although it may look as through they simply shout encouragement to the rest of the crew, a cox also has to steer the boat by guiding the ship's rudder, keep motivation as high as possible and also offer feedback after the race.

So it’s basically just one of those instructors you get when you sign up for a beginner’s course. As if the 8 pros who spend hours in the boat every day need help steering the damn thing.

Keep motivation high and offer feedback after the race?! All other sports have that. They’re called coaches. They don’t wear the same clothes and shadow the athletes during the event.

Cox is the perfect name for them.

No, you’re out by an order of magnitude. His reaction time was 0.073, compared to the 0.1 limit.

Darts should be an Olympic sport.

You wouldn't need an expensive venue, just a big open space.

Fat people could participate

Atmosphere would be crazy

Kayak cross with multiple people on course at the same time this afternoon can imagine it's going to be chaos

Think the important part is the steering of the boat, as the rowers cannot see where they are going.

In the grand scheme of DQs it is. Plenty have been DQ'd for being much closer to the limit and it means that he's not 'reacted' to the gun, he's reacted before the gun was fired i.e. pre-empted
I understand the rule mate. Just accept that you got your figures completely wrong.

Yeah, as I said, they were completely wrong by a place value - although it would be fairly obvious it was just a quick mistake by the fact I said the limit was 0.1...he clearly didn't start before the gun, which he would have done if it were 0.3! But it's still in comparison to previous DQs a wide margin of error, unless you wanna ignore that completely and just go over a simple mistake in writing the numbers down!

Dancing horses in the Olympics why?

Prancing about with some posh rich fuxker on board. Elites prancing about
Infuriating to me I have to say.

If you’re angry already, don’t google how they train the horses.

No idea what that wind surfing was about

British girl winning the whole thing then the other 2 take a random turn and she ends up 2 miles behind?

Stupid

I saw that, the Italian turn well before the mark I thought, very strange race.

British windsurfer totally chokes in the medal race after dominating earlier on. It’s the BMX final all over again.

Yeah didn't understand that either

Don’t fully understand it but I think it’s all down to judging the wind and knowing when to tack, which is what allows a sail boat to sail into the wind. The Italian judged it perfectly and the Brit had a disaster

Looked like either the Italian turned early or the Brit went well past the mark due to the wind. Assuming the later as no one mentioned anything wrong with it!
