2024 Summer Olympics (Paris)

You don't have to watch it.
And there’s only 12 events, how on earth could that be considered too many? There’s like a million swimming races for each stroke. There used to be only 3 track events for women - they eventuallly increased it to 5 but only at the expense of dropping 2 of the men’s events, which was mental. The IOC expects the host city to spend millions building a velodrome but it stands empty for pretty much half the games. Madness.

So at least one more medal guaranteed for Team GB tonight.

Currently on 58 overall, with 14 golds, currently in sixth in the medal table. Down from 64 in Tokyo with 22 golds.

Choong is 14th in modern pentathlon and unlikely to medal (he is defending champion).

Possibilities tomorrow in the women's modern pentathlon, the women's sprint cycling. So we could end up with 60 overall.

UK Sport's target:

"For the Paris 2024 Olympic Games we are hoping for sports to cumulatively win between 50 and 70 medals, while for the Paralympic Games the range is between 100 and 140 medals. Our ambition remains for Team GB and ParalympicsGB to secure a top-five position in the medal table at both Games, harnessing the power and platform that this success provides to drive positive impact in society."

That should not mean funding cuts to sports ahead of LA 2028.

Do away with the velodrome and do more outdoorsy bikes.

Paris unbeatable for locations though

Pentathlon final being held at Versailles

How bout an outdoor circuit. Much cheaper to build, so we don't have to slog through endless days of going round and round to justify it. Adds the potential for rain to increase the drama.

Like a criterium?

How about adding artistic cycling? Or break cycling(breakling)?
