So from what I understand, there is this thing called the Hatch Act that says that federal electoral candidates cannot use federal property in their campaigns. Trump is very clearly doing so by these speeches from in and around the White House. Is there ever going to be any consequence from that, or is this another thing that people thought was a law but is really just a convention Trump is not following?
Questions for Mitch:
1. If the Democrats want to keep me from working and give me free money, why should any American who isn't incredibly wealthy be worried?
2. If the Democrats want to give immigrants free healthcare does that mean American citizens would have free health care as well?

It’s been invoked over the years, but I cannot remember someone being charged with violating it. Plump et al are clearly flaunting the rule as they are certain no one will bring them to task.
Someone I read stated that loud music should be played in lieu of air horns which could cause the networks not to air the speech live for fear of running afoul of licensing regulations. That would be glorious.
We're all used to politicians embellishing things a bit, but these guys just present a totally different reality. It's really scary how so many follow them.

It'll be interesting to see if they restore it. It's one thing to argue the case for preserving a flawed history. It's totally another to actively rebuild it.
So more like another convention that politicians can actually ignore at will. But I guess that, even if it weren't, nobody is going to prosecute the current president over this during the campaign. So that brings it back to effectively being a convention either way.
Maybe something for a Law & Order president to address!
