The "moderate democratic voter" has to be one of the most confused voting bloc's in politics.

We have to rally around Biden because he's the most electable in polls > tanks in Iowa > tanks in NH > oh Pete and Amy are awesome now, they are the most electable! Do they have a strong policy or a voting base outside older-wealthy white people??? DON'T ASK THOSE QUESTIONS!!! The only thing that matters is KLOBMENTUM!!!

All those figures prove is that the supporters he does have are frothing at the mouth die-hards who will charge out to vote for him even in a one horse race. That doesn't say anything about an actual election.

People also seem to forget that the least inspiring Democratic candidate humanly possible still managed to get 3 million more votes than him last time out.

Only because California has always hated Trump.
The entire difference in popular vote was solely because California.

The popular vote argument is much weaker than DNC implies. Take out CA and Trump won the popular vote for the combined other 49 states.

Why would you take out California? Do we take out Texas for Trump too, or is it just the giant Dem state that we apparently ignore?

They’re being funnelled by a strong unified media narrative. Hopefully the Sanders movement can overcome it.

What a weird argument. The way people vote isn't based on geography. California isn't just solely democratic either. It has all kinds of areas that are staunch republican. Marin County doesn't reflect the whole bloody state.

Voters have wised up.
They can see what the media is doing.
its working for Sanders.

I was more optimistic of that prior to the late Buttigieg surges in Iowa and New Hampshire, but here's hoping you're right. I hope Biden and Warren stay in but keep having relatively shite numbers :)

it's pretty incredible how obscene wealth buys you complete immunity from playing both sides. Trump was a wealthy New Yorker that gave both money and influence to both democrats and republicans over the years. He becomes a republican president and just goes full authoritarian. Bringing the GOP right in behind him to the point that the GOP = Trumpism.

Bloomberg is a wealthy New Yorker that has been officially a republican, independent, and now wants to be a democratic president. He's given both money and influence to both democrats and republicans over the years and most recently swung a senate race to the GOP.

But the real problem is Bernie Sanders being an independent that is dividing the party with a health care policy :wenger:

Because the point was made that Trump lost the popular vote. The difference there was solely because of California. Since its an electoral college system, its a bit misleading to think that Trump losing the popular vote means much if anything. The 2020 election is going to come down to working and middle class in the Midwest swing states so the Dem racking up a +4.5 million popular vote in a single state is meaningless for the election. All votes do not have equal electoral power in an electoral college system ( a California vote is less powerful than a Rhode Island vote electorally).

You're talking bollocks. Getting votes out in California ensures that congressional seats are won too. There were several close races last election. Trump losing the popular vote also highlights his general unpopularity.

You're making a completely different point. California can be won with a 99-1 popular vote ratio and its not going to matter electorally nor be any indication of how Trump will fare in the Midwest swing states and ultimately how he will fare in the General Election.

Go take your point about congressional seats to the US politics thread where it belongs, Mr Bollocks. George Bush lost the popular vote in 2000 as well and see how it helped the Dems in 2004.

Especially as such a policy would help what the Democratic Party says is its base. Working families, multi cultural and the poor especially black and latinos.
By pushing worthless candidates like Biden and Bloomberg who is the very enemy of these voters, of course a Trump or others like him are going to win.

Well harry reid could canvass for bernie. For sure he's going to ensure Bernie will win if he's the nominee in generals

he probably won't but having faiz os campaign manager hopefully means he won't work against bernie.

the unions will always support the democrat in the general, but it's a vote not a caucus so many of these tricks won't matter.

It says a lot of the voter enthusiasm , compared to the democratic primaries.

As for the general election, his 49 % approval rating is pretty telling as well.

That’s a totally different argument. Sure you can say the popular vote is basically irrelevant and you’d be right. But you suggested the popular vote mattered but that we could somehow just disregard California. Millions more Americans preferred Hillary to Trump. Saying ‘well if we ignore the bulk of her votes then Donald actually was more popular!’

Because the point was made that Trump lost the popular vote. The difference there was solely because of California. .

66 million voted for Hillary. California amounted to less than 15% of them. You can't honestly claim 85% of Democratic voters are irrelevant to a point concerning the total Democratic vote.
