2018 US Elections

Wait, I've not kept up, how can Dems still win Florida and Arizona? Recounts? I thought they'd been conceded?

What about Georgia?

Do you remember all those long lines in the Democrat strongholds in Georgia due to lack of voting machines? Its now being reported that hundreds of unused voting machines were left locked in warehouses in the Atlanta area.

Its just disgraceful that local officials in critical voting areas can be so stupid and incompetent.

Can the House open investigations into this? The FBI? Surely someone can do something?

Can’t stand Rick Scott and Gillum - both corrupt politicians - so I’d happily sign on both of them losing.

I'm fully expecting the GOP to pull some illegal shit to keep the Sinema and Nelson from snatching victory from the jaws of defeat.

The Senate undervotes in Broward is dodgy as feck. Outlier in the whole state and bigger than the current difference.

It's very possibly the product of bad ballot design (designed by dems too). The Senate and House races were down the ballot on the left underneath the directions of how to complete the ballot:

The above numbers are off a bit now that more ballots have been counted but Attorney General, Chief Financial Officer and Agricultural Commissioner and their races still have more votes than Nelson and his. Their names are on the ballot directly below the Governors race.

Ballots in Tampa had the choices for Senator right underneath the choices for Governor, which is the most logical way to present it...

I know. They are also blaming it on machine scan and what not, but it’s depressing they essentially learned nothing from ‘hanging chad’, when the ballot design was also approved by Democrats.

Deplorables accusing Dems of stealing votes in elections they are in charge of.

To be fair, one needs to be a special kind of stupid not to be able to handle that ballot.

Oh, this is Florida we're talking about... oh well...

Scott looks to have won with 15k advantage, though this election might go to a recount. Sinema is leading by 9k. Looks like it is going to be 53-47.

True, but the present climate is not indicative of a Bill Clinton election and Obama at least ran on a very progressive platform in 2008. But good point nonetheless
Obama won it also in 2012 against Romney (though not as comfortably as against McCain, but then Romney did better than McCain everywhere).

I think that a candidate which can relate with people should be able to win Florida. Both democrats almost won it this time (on gubernatorial race, the difference is 36k, while for senate it is only 15k), despite the voter suppression and the felons not being allowed to vote. Also, in case of Gillum, his race might have played a part why he didn't win.

In the upcoming Congress the difference between 54-46 and 53-47 for Republicans doesn't seem all that significant as they hardly ever break with the party line anyway. However, that cut in the GOP majority could make all the difference when it comes to Democrat chances of a Senate majority in 2020.

Someone educate me please. Aren't mail in ballots always counted in American elections?

Word is the Arizona election result won't be known for at least a week. Wtf?

Popular vote- electoral college split, Florida, ballot design, recount, lacking machines, deadline, lawsuits.

If there’s a God, he sure is a very sadistic feck who enjoy putting people through this time loop.

Not an exact comparison of course, but find it rather strange how in the UK about 30m votes in a general election can be counted (by hand) and if necessary recounted in certain seats in the space of a night while in the US it can drag out for so long. Simply down to having larger constituencies or more complicated ballots?

Good summary on Dem results in the mid-west

Gillum's campaign said it's monitoring the situation with an elections lawyer and readying for a possible state-mandated recount. He hired attorney Barry Richard, who represented President George W. Bush in the 2000 recount
