Just as I'm reading this, there's an advert saying that you could be entitled to compensation because of what a cancer drug may have done to you. I'd laugh if it wasn't so sad. I feel bad for the generation of people who think that's a normal approach to achieving a healthy lifestyle.

I find it absurd how they're talking about how much of a great drug it is and then list so many possible side effects. They should absolutely be banned. There's been more mentions of America's opioid addiction of late. Only a few hours of American television and I think I'm starting to understand such problems better.

Probably deserves its own thread but knowing about possible side effects is certainly important. To keep it on topic, pharma has and continues to lobby so nothing is going to change with the current system.

How's the American Boris doing? Had USexit won?

Yeah, it is important. But some side effects are extremely rare. If the probabilities are listed it would be best.

I'm sure this is some sort of compromise, for pharma to be allowed to advertise. But then again, a doctor should tell a patient what drugs to take, not the other way around.

Turn's out Mazel Tov cocktails are real

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...mazel-tov-cocktail-is-real-and-its-delicious/

Actually, there has been a Mazel Tov cocktail on the menu at DGS, a Dupont Circle modern delicatessen, for several years. Partner Brian Zipin invented it when the restaurant first opened.

“That’s a mitzvah,” he said, when informed the phrase “mazel tov cocktail” was going viral.

“This is not what you’re thinking when you’re creating cocktails for restaurants,” Zipin said. “But this has been such an insane campaign, I guess I can’t be surprised at anything anymore.”

His recipe, below, calls for plum gin liqueur, because “Plums are really important in Jewish heritage and culture.” He wanted to use sparkling wine, because “when you say mazel tov, it’s kind of a toast.” The cocktail is “great with passed hors d’oeuvres. It’s great with anything salty.”

Drink Up Everyone!

Just to get in before some inevitable panicking later in the night - you can ignore the popular vote tallies until well after the west coast have begun compiling. They'll very possibly show Trump ahead for much of the time prior to that, even if he's losing by 5 points.

So what's the best channel with fancy slides but unbiased reporting?

There's at least a wee bit of irony in a bunch of socialism haters having a protest vote against the effects of not having enough social security.

Ignore the popular vote tallies all together, focus solely on the Electoral votes. Now if you are trying to look at down ticket effect, yeah the popular vote is useful, but you still need to break that up state by state.

Is a fair point, as long as people aren't flipping out if Trump's up 5% for long stretches I'm happy either way.

I believe the argument is people gave up looking so they no longer count as unemployed. I've also seen arguments about full time employment vs part time numbers.
Yeah these stats can quite easily improve without the situation actually improving. Don't know if that's the case in the US but I saw it in other countries.
If available it would be best to also have stats like total number of employed people and number of part time workers.

Now, it doesn't say anything about part time workers, but at least there are now 14 million more jobs than right after the financial crisis.
And, being employed part time is still better than being unemployed, no?

Edit* There are also about 6 million more people working now than before the financial crisis.

As long as there are adverts, sure, the side effects have to be listed. I've always thought of taking medication as being a very serious process and one that is heavily reliant on what the doctor thinks, not the patient. As a completely uninformed individual, I find the idea of seeking out a drug for myself a horrible one. Then again, I suppose American doctors have been compromised by the system as much as the people, which is to say they'll push those drugs onto you anyway because of personal interests.

It's a subject definitely worthy of its own thread.

Now that we've reached the end, I really feel we should have an Oscars-style slow motion black and white montage of the poor unfortunate souls who have fallen during the past year...

Americano...

Ihabx7...

(Harp joins piano, sad strings, bundles of printed emails with a photo of Alex Jones screaming beside them..)

Eh, I'm sure there were others, right?

(Music ends on hopeful note, "In Memoriam", fade to black)

I do wonder if heavy voting in already red states will give Trump the popular vote. Will be hilarious.

I fecking don't get how the US voting system works and it hurts.

Yeah looks like in this case it's an actual increase of jobs.

The thing with part time jobs is that you can, for example, turn one well paid full time job into severeal cheap part time jobs but anyway, the numbers look good enough to me.

Clinton's drifted from 1.21 to 1.25 on betfair today, I'm not officially panicking until we hit 1.30 though

They were banned?

The bigger question of the day is not what time a result will be declared, but at what time will this thread break 1,000 pages?

It's not complicated really. For most offices the popular vote decides the winner. This would be at the State level or within Congressional districts, governors, mayors, etc.

For the Presidency, you are actually voting for a representative who will vote for President. States are awarded electoral seats based on population. Except for Maine and Nebraska, win the state you get it's electoral votes. Get to 270 electoral votes you win.

You'll see that sort of movement as Trump's odds drift, people will lay on him and his odds will shorten (which naturally will make Clinton's lengthen).

The gambling markets failed to call brexit... in a nation of gamblers. I don't think their odds mean much outside of the bubble of gamblers..

They all just follow the models that we can see anyway.

If we don't know the amount of overall activity it can be difficult to judge also. If there are not large amounts being bet on an event, then it takes less money to move the odds. Plus the odds being such that the bookies are trying to make sure the make money no matter what the outcome, not trying to predict the actual outcome.

Feck me I was only at work 3 hours and came back to like 5 pages and I thought woohooooooo! Something's happened. BUT NO! It was just you random buttheads talking shite as usual. Thanks feckers :( Love you all really x

Never let the truth get in front of a good story... brother

 nice work, brother.

LULZ!

Donald Trump Jr sounds much more articulate than his father.

That's really not hard though, a drunk Austrian guy yodelling underwater through a Swiss horn is more articulate than The Donald!

To be fair his dad is a human random word generator.
