So one has no political experience and is, by all accounts, a terrible person... and the other has been in politics for a long time, not done much, and is, seemingly, corrupt. She was the presumptive nominee for 08 till Obama came along. Again for 16 and an Independent with little support ran her extremely close.

Would an indictment prevent her from taking the oath though? It would be a formal charge, but not a conviction. It would bring a whole mess as the two sides waged legal battles over whether she could actually be sworn in or not. It'd be a mess. If you like Kaine what you really want is her to be sworn in, then something about her come out that is so awful that she has no choice but to instantly resign.

There's another Brexit parallel in there I think: when your opposition becomes divided/weak (Corbyn leadership in UK), the other party's top figures will be willing to take risks to get further power within their own party, instead of focusing on beating the weakened opposition.
