2016/2017 Title race

If City smash Monaco at home 3 or 4 nil then the second game will become a non issue. Stoke at home is probably the easiest game this season. That brings them down to beating liverpool at home with a well rested squad. The only real chance of city dropping points before facing us is at arsenal.

As for Chelsea's next 5 games, we are sure to drop points at westham. But we need to make sure that we win the other 4 games. If we dont have 13 points from the next 5 games things are sure to become tight. Especially, given our next 8 games where we may drop up to 10-12 points.
We beat West Ham early in the season when we weren't playing well before we switched to 3-4-3. I have no doubt we'll beat them away. It's not like they have a home advantage per se. It's not really their "home" as they've shown this season. Where I think we'll drop points is Stoke away.

Also, you seem to think Monaco will be an easy tie for City. I don't think you realize how in form Monaco are this season. They remind me of Porto's 03/04 CL team. It's very far from an easy tie. They could of course very well get beaten badly by City in the first leg. Or they could get a 1-1 draw at the Etihad, which would make the second leg very important for City.

And again, City face Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea back to back to back. If you don't think they're definitely dropping points then that is some high confidence you have in City right there. Not to mention they have a match against United that was postponed and hasn't been rescheduled yet.

Not in a million years will smash Monaco. They are a good, good side and we'll do well to get through over the 2 legs. No way we beat them 3 or 4. I'd take 2-0 as an amazing result but I can't see us not conceding. I'll actually be expecting a 2-1 win if we do win or something close on that. No way our tie is decided in the first leg.

10 point gap over 2nd & 3rd with only 11 games remaining. Looking like yet another dominant Chelsea title win.

We need to win the double. We deserve it after the traumatizing season we had last year.

As for the league, I think if we can beat City at home next month, that may be it. But we have to go away to Stoke and beat Palace (who'll no doubt park the bus) at the Bridge first.

Its done I was hopeful West Hame could beat ye and we'd beat Stoke to cut it to 5 points but its done now. After we play Liverpool and Arsenal I'd expect to be at least 13 points behind you guys going to SB.

Reckon we'll win all 3. Stoke away isn't as daunting as it once was, Palace are almost incapable of defending & City are average away from home.

20 points from the next 33 should do it for Chelsea. That is assuming spurs and city play out of their skin over the remaining games which is rather unlikely.

I hope to see the likes of Chalobah, Batshuayi and Musonda in the squad if we are close to finishing it in the next few games.

Think Spurs will run us closest without European distraction like City have. City also have a mammoth run of fixtures coming up. So strange how all season long City can look unstoppable one match and hopeless the next.

You can win it, but you "deserve" nothing base on repaying mentality for last season (We're still waiting for repaying of Moyes season ). If you're to win it, yours is simply best team in the league (till this moment at least. ) and deserve it by then with how you perform this season.

IMO this is it already though. 2 digit gap at this stage & with 2-6 is this close & still have to play against each others, it's hard to catch you guys with how these team still dropping point to weaker teams,

We're the best team in the league away from home. Its at home we're average. that said we won't win at SB.

You got battered by Everton, Tottenham & Liverpool away from home this season. Only impressive result so far was at Old Trafford.

We're also the only team to win 10 away games and have the best away goal difference in the league. The Liverpool game wasn't battered it was 1-0 (and they just shaded it, even the liverpool fans here agree, Everton crushed us and Spurs didn't batter us anymore than they battered you guys.) Now thats not to say I'm remotely confident of winning at SB but its our home form that has us out of the title race and so far behind.

You have 30 points away from home this season. We have 30 points away from home as well. You're not THE best. Joint best. Besides, we're talking about a top 6 match here. Only Liverpool have been better than us vs the rest of the top 6 this season despite the 3 losses we've suffered to Arsenal, Liverpool & Spurs. Would be an interesting match for sure. I expect Chelsea to go for the kill.

I'm obviously talking about Chelsea fans mate. It's up to United players to give you what you lot deserve. Although you had 26 straight years of success so maybe this is the universe trying to even things? I hope United make the CL though. Can't stand having Arsenal in there anymore. They're a disgrace to English football in the CL.

They're a team learning to play under a new manager with a lot of deadwood, there were bound to be inconsistencies. That being said people watch them put away Swansea 4-0 and hail them as brilliant but then turn a blind eye to them struggling against any half decent team.

Relax I never said we were better or going to win or anything, I was simply replying to Blue Celery saying we've been average away from home and was simply stating our issues this season are at the Etihad not away. And we've a better goal difference so yes we have been the best away team this season (though I'd much rather be as solid as you guys), it doesn't change the fact it is what it is. Goal difference counts, as City and United fans can both attest to twice in recent seasons.

The reason you are so far ahead of us is you don't drop points at SB where as we like United tend to give them away like presents. For what its worth I fully expect you to beat us as your style is a nightmare for us and your wingbacks will give our slow fullbacks nightmares, we either won't be able to push them forward or we'll be wide open.

Yeah that is what I think too. Spurs will do better than city but the best they can do is 29 points.

City's last games are probably all wins. So we really need to cut the gap on them in the next bit if we want any hope as our last few games are hell. 4 of their next 5 league games though can easily be games where they drop points so we have to take advantage.

Name on the trophy, don't see Chelsea's team dropping enough points and city/Spurs will at least drop 5 points each before seasons end. It's a done deal.

Been Chelsea's to lose for a while, and they don't seem to interested in doing that.

We're the best team in the league away from home. Its at home we're average. that said we won't win at SB.
Both our teams have 30 points in away games. So we must be joint best although that doesn't give City the trophy unfortunately.

So much for the worlds most competitive league...

Its all down to United and City and Pep and Jose as to why this league is a one horse race this season.

spot on. tbh it's not a new thing. I always found PL title races relatively one-sided.
I know there was the Newcastle implosion and that Aguero moment.

But even you have to admit that it feels like there are several possible competitors at the beginning of the season.

City's 6 games leading up to the Chelsea match: Monaco - CL (H), Sunderland (A), Stoke City (H), Monaco - CL (A), Liverpool (H), Arsenal (A).

Chelsea's 5 games leading up tot he City match: Swansea (H), West Ham (A), Watford (H), Stoke City (A), Crystal Palace (H)

I left out the FA Cup matches as those are easy wins and fatigue won't play a factor.

City have to play an in form Monaco 4 days after a tricky Stoke fixture AND then they have to play Liverpool after the Monaco match. Depending on how the Monaco tie turns out, they could end up losing to Liverpool. They also have to play Arsenal at the Emirates after that. City could be well and truly out of the picture before they have to come to the Bridge to face us.

The only real tricky fixture for us is Stoke away. Granted Swansea have been playing much better since Paul Clement took over but I see no reason why we can't beat them at home.

With each match that passes by, the possibility of catching us becomes thinner and thinner. If we're 10 points ahead going into the City game, you'd probably still be going on about how "well if they lose their last 3 and draw another then they can be caught, it's not settled!". Problem is, the City game is our 30th of the season. After that, there'll be 8 games left and we don't play United until matchday 34. By this point, if we're still 8-10 points ahead, the rest of the chasing pack would need us to throw away pretty much the rest of our season to win the title. Wishful thinking.

I haven't even mentioned that if City beat Monaco, then that gives them more games to play and gives us even more advantage.

It'll take the combination of a historic Chelsea meltdown and a historic City/(anyone else) run for us to NOT win the title.

I know you're a troll and you enjoy pissing about on this forum. I'm posting it for anyone else whom you may have fooled.

As I said, Monaco are an in form team. Losing the first match was down to their own feck up rather than City being dominant.

Isn't @AshfordLad the most pessimistic Chelsea fan on here?

"We are SURE to drop points at West Ham" :nono:
On the good side, he's always preparing for the worst so he can't really be caught off guard. :D

That's called football. You capitalize on the opposition's feckups.
True but there was some really really comical defending on display in that match (from both sides tbf).

7 points between Chelsea and Spurs, Chelsea next 3 games are home to Man City, away to Bournemouth and ManUtd.

That is true, but whoever is chasing HAS to win every single game really. It seems possible, but its done and dusted IMO

Lump a pound on St Totteringhams Day to be last day of the season.

I would rather be in the position we're in, than in the following teams positions. However, really disappointed not to get the 3 points today. We were playing arguably the weakest remaining fixture AT HOME, and lost. If we lose or draw to City, the title race is truly on. Credit to Spurs, they don't seem to be dropping points at the moment, and they're always coming up with goals. Away to Burnley was supposed to be one of their tougher fixtures, but they brushed them aside.

It's Chelsea's to lose and I don't think they will. We also have some tough games coming up, 7 points should be too much.

Spurs are an under rated team. One of the most impressive teams in Europe this season in terms of how they've risen above expectations. Pochettino is a fantastic manager. He quietly goes about his business and organizes his team very well. Their defence is actually better than Chelsea, and though they've scored less goals, they offer a more persistent goal threat with their direct play. Their full backs are also monsters.

Pochettino has quietly turned Spurs into a credible threat and they are definitely a club on the rise. If Chelsea draw or lose to City in the next game, the gap will be 4-5 points which would be shocking given how many already crowned them champions long ago. Even if Spurs end up losing the title, they will finish the season as the most in-form and most improved team IMO, they will compete for the title next season too.
