2009 Baseball Season

Another good win, CC great again. Gotta feel the Red Sox's bats will wake up sometime soon but man they need to quickly.

This does not bode well for post-season, to say the least.

To be fully honest i'm not gonna give up on the division for another 2 weeks... if we get to within 3 games by the end of August we have a shot... this current span is a bit much now, especially for a team it seems in a bit of a transition (Jesus, how scary is that with all our pitching "depth" a few weeks/months ago)

Christian Guzman could be a BIG boost, unfortunatly for Nick Green and Jed Lowrie it could spell the end of their careers in Boston.

A revolving door... oh Hanley where art thou?

Rios traded to the White Sox today, big gamble by Riccardi, but Rios hasn't had the best of seasons this year & has a hefty, hefty contract.

Boston winning so far as Jays beating Yanks right now 4-2. If they is one weakness its the 5th start Mitre isnt that good giving up 4 or 5 runs each time.

You like that move I like Rios thought he was a very good player having a poor year but still.

I think my head says it was a good move, hefty contract, and he was having a poor season by his standards. I'm more concerned that we didn't get anyone in return from the White Sox, i would have settled for some youth, but i think its a case that Riccardi wanted that contract out of the way & would go to any length to get him out.

I fear though that we'll lack any real figure head out on the field, Vernon Wells is the person to step up now, mainly as i think Halladay is playing his last season in a Jays uniform

Huge hit by Overbay tho, tasty

Yeah Jays pen did a great job Aceves is a beast though I really hope they DFA Mitre he isnt any good.

Rays lost too, big result for us, also a bit of air in the WC race, I fear Texas/Chicago right now

Looking forward to tonights game, i dont think it'll be a successful one for us tonight, just because we'll be dependent on the bullpen again.

You can order MLB tv were you can watch every game online even after its finished. But im sure at teh time there will be a stream around for the Sox-Yanks game.

So these are all coming out from a test that was promised to be kept anonymous about 5 years ago?

And yet every few weeks a name seeps out

Wouldn't it be in everyone best interests, even the unnamed cheats themselves, to just put all the names out there?

I don't see why cheats should be protected anyway. Any players union standing up for these cheats is failing the vast majority of their representatives who are not cheating

They only agreed to the tests because of its concealed nature. The steroid era was a ratings bonanza for MLB until they were forced to take action.

I knew that Desert

But now they're coming out anyway from whatever source, just time to expose the whole fecking lot of em

And I don't know, but hopefully they have a better testing system then "well we'll test you but its meaningless because if you cheated we won't do anything about it anyway"

And then banning players when its leaked. Bizarre

At least he didn't forget how to speak English at the confence

I really don't like how the MLBPA Union cheif step up for Ortiz and did absolutely nothing for A-Rod.

I'm pretty sure Weiner knows Ortiz didn't use 'roids, and the MLBPA told Ortiz to hold up before making a public statement on the issue until all the information available was released... with A-Rod there was a bit of other "sources" leading up to his "leak" that made it damn near impossible to defend... at least A-Rod has come clean though and said he took PED's... Ortiz refuses too, and with the statement from the PA and the Sox actually acknowledging the situation, I think it bodes well for Ortiz' case.

It is a bit off though that the MLBPA haven't stepped up for all cases, but to me that shows they know who used what in the scheme of things.

As I said when the info of Ortiz' leak came out: It's probably Andro... too easy to put into suppliments and even IF he used it, it wasn't illegal in 2003, and if he tested positive for it, then why is it such a big deal?

These new tidbits about his consistant testing and not knowing he tested positive (Mis-quote by someone) Gives me faith in Ortiz' legitimacy.

Or the Giants. Second best record in the NL and only two representatives. Victorino taking the final spot over Kemp or Sandoval was ridiculous. Their numbers were far more impressive.

The All Star game is a fecking joke. Always has been, always will be.

Tell that to Pete Rose.

5:31pm: MLB.com's Jordan Bastian hears from a source that reports of Halladay being traded to Philly within the next 24 hours are inaccurate.

4:50pm: Ed Price of AOL FanHouse hears that the Jays are considering trading Halladay to the Phillies for Kyle Drabek, Michael Taylor, Jason Donald and Lou Marson. However, no deal appears to be close.

4:20pm: The Phillies are "fully determined" to acquire Halladay, while the Dodgers still have a small chance of acquiring him, according to Knobler. As for the Jays, one person involved says "it's obvious that they have to move him now."

4:05pm: The Jays could obtain a stronger supporting group if they were to accept J.A. Happ in place of Kyle Drabek in a possible trade, according to Heyman.

3:59pm: Knobler says the Brewers are "basically out" of the Halladay talks because they don't want to give up Alcides Escobar or Mat Gamel. Boston's representatives also left Toronto today.

3:28pm: Danny Knobler of CBS Sports says the Phillies remain the favorites to acquire Halladay, but the teams don't appear to be close to completing a deal.

2:04pm: MLB.com's Ken Gurnick passes on comments Dodgers GM Ned Colletti made this morning on KABC Radio. Colletti says the Jays want two or three current Dodgers, including a young pitcher, or five or six prospects.

2:00pm: Jon Heyman of SI.com says the Phils are "trying hard" to obtain Halladay. He'd be surprised if they don't acquire him.

11:45am: Ed Price of AOL FanHouse says Cincinnati has interest in Halladay. Presumably, Halladay wouldn't accept a trade to the 44-50 Reds.

10:00am: With a week to go before the trade deadline, here's a recap of what we found out about Roy Halladay yesterday: the Jays could expand a deal to include other players; Jays GM J.P. Ricciardi said Halladay wants to test the free agent market after next season; Halladay has given Ricciardi a list of teams he'd accept trades to; Kyle Drabek is not untouchable; the Angels and Dodgers are still in the mix. And here's what we've heard so far today:

Ricciardi told The Globe and Mail that Halladay has not given the Blue Jays a list of teams. Instead, the Jays have run teams by Halladay to determine his interest in joining them.
Jon Heyman says the Phillies are frontrunners for Halladay, but the Brewers have a shot at Toronto's ace.
Ricciardi told Jim Salisbury of the Philadelphia Inquirer that he's in the midst of serious discussions with four teams, all of which have the talent to acquire Halladay.
Ricciardi says he hasn't discussed specifics with the Phillies; Salisbury's sources say the Blue Jays would require Kyle Drabek and J.A. Happ in the deal, along with others.
Former Phillies GM Pat Gillick sounds tempted by Halladay, saying he'd give the Phils the chance to go "back-to-back."
Happ knows tonight's start could be his last for the Phillies, according to MLB.com's David Gurian-Peck.
Ricciardi told Mike Rutsey of the Toronto Sun that the Blue Jays won't pay any of Halladay's salary if they trade him.

Sanchez throws the first no hitter of 2009. Pretty amazing story. He had been sucking and was stuck in the bullpen three weeks ago. He was given the start because of an injury to another pitcher and his Dad flew up from Puerto Rice to see him pitch in the bigs for the first time.

Excuse me, AlwaysRedwood, but that story doesn't involve the Yankees or Red Sox, therefore it didn't happen.

Giants, man. The best pitching rotation in the majors, full stop. When you have studs like Lincecum, Cain, Randy Johnson, and even guys like Zito, Sanchez, and Sadowski coming up big, . All we need is one big bat.
