2009 Baseball Season

Montero and Jackson are locks, no chance they are going to trade them away and Hughes and Joba have huge potential, I guess thats the compromise if you want a guy like Doc.I would trade Melky in a heartbeat though.

Why not speculate on 2010 free agents, not a big bunch of big names really but a few who are interesting. Personally I am hoping the Yanks keep hold of Damon, Pettitte and Hairston, not likely to keep hold of Nady, Matsui will probably take arbitration, but mainly keep hold of Damon, please.

Even if Pettitte re-signs we still need another starter, who is there? John Lackey, Bedard, Harden, Washburn?

Bay, Holliday are the only big free agents Bay will stay in Boston and Holliday is a Boras client he will go on the market. I think Cashman will keep Damon and go for Crawford in 2010/11. I think Nady and Matsui are gone.

I don't really want Washburn I still cant believe Seattle wanted Austin Jackson for him. But I think the rotation will be CC, AJ, Joba, Hughes and Pettitte. The Yanks need to get a 8th inning guy to replace Hughes and a spot starter.

I agree on Melky hes been better this year but overall same as last year great start then downhill. When he was on his great run this year I would have traded him while he had allot better value.

I always thought Holliday would end up with Yankees, but if StL can afford him they would be wise to keep him. He offers great protection for Pujols.

Yeah I think there is a chance but Holliday a Boras client I would bet my house he goes to free agency. He would be great in Yankee stadium.

He reminds me of a poor man's Mantle(which is still saying something because many consider Mantle the most talented player of all time, shame DiMaggio did his knee in so early in his career, still a top 10 player all time for me thoguh) for some reason, albeit he isnt a switch hitter.

Holliday would be a great take but another big hit on the payroll, but they have a ceiling somewhere, surely? But in hindsight he might be worth it just to add even more to the current line-up.

I would agree with your rotation Rooney1987 but you gotta figure the Yanks will go after probably Lackey just to stop the Red Sox having a free run at him.

We're good

Yankees now 3-3 with Jays but Jeter is 2-2. I can't believe I haven't brought this up this week Jeter is close to catching Lou Gehrig 2721 hits for the Yankee all time hits 4 to tie, 5 to break.

That was shocking stuff by the Yankees... I guess it pays off though to have a good summer, come fall you can have blips.

Watch the Jays have another brilliant September

The Yankees are clear favorites imo, I will be shocked if they dont win it, but then again A-Rod is Mr. May

You cant tell until the playoffs the fact that they will have home field throughout helps them immensely, I'd say the Dodgers peaked too early

Or have they peaked a bit early?

Doubt it really. There really isn't much peaking in baseball, so much as there is streaking. If a team gets hot in the playoffs, they could very well end up winning it even if they weren't favourites. Similarly, if one of the favourites gets on a hot streak in the playoffs, it's nigh impossible to stop them.

I have to say I REALLY like the makeup of this Yankees team. The ONLY thing I wonder about is the so called clutch factor. Besides Jeter, Damon, Posada, and PERHAPS Matsui, I don't really see any batters on this years team who are proven in the playoffs in important situations. As a matter of fact, in recent years, Jeter has actually been significantly below par in the playoffs. He only makes that list by virtue of being so clutch earlier in his career.

Yeah LA look like they might hit some bumps on the road, the NL is so wide open it's insane... the AL is Yankees, or in all reality my Sox, that's pretty much it.

A-Rod starting to heat up, hope he carries it through into the playoffs, no reason why he shouldnt anymore. As a Yankee fan I am pretty confident, we have a rotation that should compete with anyones and a 1-4 spot that is filled with hits and power, plus potential sparks in Cano and Matsui.

Obviously we have to make sure we get there first.

You're in the playoff mate, don't kid yourself... you have us and the Rangers as your only roadblocks

I never get ahead of myself though  until we get there I will always use if.

Not going to be a problem getting there this year.... Yankees squished the TB Rays - wait a minute - was it a doubleheader, yesterday?

Looks like the first game was 4-1 Yankees and the second game which is the one I watched 11-1. Most runs scored by the 3rd inning. - with Alex Rodriquez resting on the bench.

How are the Red Sox doing at the moment?

Boston lost 1-5 to the White Sox

Texas looks like they might overcome Boston for the wildcard spot. Shame, I wanted to see the Yankees give them a good trauncing before the end of the year. The Yankees have 3 more games vs. them at the end of the month, which will have to due.

Did anyone mention that the Yankees are 9 points ahead of Boston?

Teixeira not far off the HR lead now, Pena out for the season, I figure if he wants to beat Mauer for AL MVP he has to hit 40 HR's atleast but not many games left to do it, hitting 2 last night helped.

Are the Yankees likely to bottle it on the big stage (again)?

If so, how can I tune in to laugh at them?

When is the world series anyway?

The state of the Red Sox... shambles

The offence is sputtering... one day it's on point, the next it's a struggle... Victor Martinez is sort of effective, not like Jason Bay was last season, but it keeps things focused.

The fact of the matter is, if you replace Ortiz with effectiveness (Tex) and add one Ace (Of CC or AJ), we're > the Yankees... so, it goes to show the off-season moves by New York are making all the difference.

The work the Red Sox have done the past five months earned them a 2 ½-game lead in the American League wild card. But their most significant advantage may lie in the future -- starting tonight in the first of a two-game series against the Baltimore Orioles at Fenway -- and not the past.

The Red Sox have 25 games remaining over eight series – against the Orioles, the Rays, the Angels, the Orioles again, the Royals, the Yankees, the Blue Jays, and the Indians.

That’s six games against baseball’s best, and 19 games against the American League’s true dregs. The average winning percentage of their remaining opponents is .466; on average, the Red Sox will play a 75-win 25 times.

The schedule may even be easier than that. The Blue Jays are 34-62 since May 19. The Rays unloaded Scott Kazmir. The Orioles traded Aubrey Huff and George Sherrill. The Royals are a special kind of mess.

The Rangers, meanwhile, face a much more challenging schedule. They get to play the Indians three times, including twice today, and the Athletics three times. But they have to play the Angels seven times and the Mariners six times. The average winning percentage of their remaining opponents is .510; on average; the Rangers will play an 83-win team 26 times.

By losing of three of four against the reeling White Sox this weekend in Chicago, the Red Sox proved how they play will matter more than who they play. But with less than a month left and the Sox still vying with the Rangers, they have an easier path to the playoffs than their main competition.

A BIT of perspective... I think we can make the playoffs

It depends on who you get I think if its anyone significant you bet Cashman will act. Can't forget A-Rod is not even close to full fitness this year he will be back next year.

You will make the play offs too good not to.

But maybe we need, like in 2006, a kick in the arse and to miss them... this season the AL, and in fact all of baseball, is lacking that "4th" team in both leagues... we're lucky this season that there is no 4th team like in 2006, because we'd be on the outside.

End of the day, if we make the post-season, we're 11 wins away, like every other team... I'm confident we can beat the Angels (Who we're nearly locked to face if we make it) and then who knows.

Lester is the key man, because unless Beckett smartens up, he's our man, 2 wins a series we'll need from him... it's kind of scary.

It depends on who you get I think if its anyone significant you bet Cashman will act. Can't forget A-Rod is not even close to full fitness this year he will be back next year.

I'm talking about this year though, the difference between last and this year is the moves, clearly.

2004 still hurts doesn't it? I can feel the pain in the words.

Credit to Jeter, from one true professional to another the record will go. From one heart of the Yankees to another. From one legend to another.

This is funny from the other night

 haven't seen that !!!

Jeter tie with Gehrig for most Yankee hit tonight

One of the ALL-TIME best, I don't think the praise will be credited until after his career comes to an end.

That said, has anyone been reading into quality Yankee blogs about Jeter's next deal, and the potential of Hanley Ramirez coming to NY seeing Jeter out !?

Yeah I read allot of stuff like that on Yankee blogs most before this year wanted him to move from SS I replied well tell me a better SS in the AL you would rather. There might be a few in the NL but not in the AL he is still the best I think. Its intresting with Hanley if the Yanks got him by that time Jeter will be 37 I think or even older he might be the DH then or he could move to 3rd with Alex as DH.

Fantastic to watch that, all the team going out to congratulate him.
