Went to the Red Sox vs. Orioles game last night. Great game - 5-6 Sox, with lots of home runs. Only two fist fights near my section - Friday Night Fights and a ballgame - what a bargain.
Phil Hughes has been dominant since hes been in the pen great to watch right now
Been a huge treat for Girardi, it's a shame because the kid looks so talented to restrict him but if he's more comfortable and important in the team, leave him be.
Yeah it has considering the rest of the pen (other then Mo maybe Aceves) have been pretty bad at times.
Bard does look damn good I'll say that. What do you think the Sox will do will Smoltz everytime I see him see giving up runs.
Big Yankee/Sox series coming up. Yanks 2 and a half lead in AL I just hope the Yankees win a game this time.
Just seen the line up Youkilis is in LF never seen him in the outfield before that should be intresting.
Minor Leagues he played every position except P and C, so it should be fun.
I guess the Bay injury is official, as well Rocco is on the DL, Reddick probably couldn't make it into NY in time to start tonight.
Kotchman at 1B?
That is a big blow Bay has been killing the Yankees. Isn't Reddick an outfielder wouldnt it be better to have Reddick in LF then Youk at first.
Watching that game last night lamented the loss of AJ from the Jays for me, he's an awesome pitcher, one we sorely miss now. I lasted till about the 8th before i gave in to the sleep, looked like it was an epic game.
Alex Rios Claimed On Waivers, Trade Next?
By Ben Nicholson-Smith [August 7 at 10:02pm CST]
10:02pm: Olney is now reporting that the White Sox "are most likely the team awarded claim on Rios, but the Blue Jays have not confirmed it." The Sox face a mutual option on right fielder Jermaine Dye after the season, and could also consider using Rios in center field if they acquire him.
8:44pm: Geoff Baker of The Seattle Times reports that the Mariners did not put the claim in on Rios.
7:58pm: John Fay of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that "someone high in the front office" confirms that the Reds did not claim Rios.
6:16pm: Henry Schulman of The SF Chronicle says that vice president of baseball operations Bobby Evans "hinted strongly" that the Giants are not the team that claimed Rios.
4:41pm: Rob Bradford of WEEI.com reports that the Red Sox didn't claim Rios, either.
4:39pm: Joel Sherman of the New York Post hears from a high-ranking Mets official that the Mets did not claim Rios. J.P. Ricciardi didn't get into specifics with MLB.com's Jordan Bastian and just said it's normal to place players on waivers.
2:52pm: ESPN.com's Buster Olney hears that Alex Rios has been claimed on waivers by an unknown team. The Blue Jays now have three choices:
They can let the claiming team have Rios and the $60MM-plus remaining on his contract.
They can pull him back from waivers and keep him.
They can work out a deal with the claiming team.
One executive calls this an "incredible opportunity" for the Blue Jays to shed payroll.
The Players Association made clear in its public statement today that there are substantial uncertainties and ambiguity surrounding the list of 104 names from the 2003 survey test. Indeed, there is even uncertainty about the number of players on this 2003 government list, whether it is 104, 96, 83, or less. Many of those uncertainties apparently relate to the use of then-legal nutritional supplements that were not banned by Baseball.
David vigorously denied ever buying or using steroids. As important, Major League Baseball has informed us that David has been tested every year since the implementation of the MLB/MLBPA program in 2004 and, under the program, he has been tested 15 or more different times. We have been informed that, during this entire 6-year period (2004-2009), David has never tested positive for a steroid. Also during this period, David voluntarily submitted himself to the Olympic standard of drug tests administered in connection with the World Baseball Classics in 2006 and in 2009. We are informed he did not test positive for steroids under those tests either, and he participated actively in both international tournaments.
Last week, David said he would keep people informed after he personally looked into reports of his inclusion on the 2003 survey test. He has done so. David Ortiz is a team leader, and his contributions on the field and in the community have earned him respect and a special place in the hearts of Red Sox Nation.
We appreciate the attention given to this specific matter by the Players Association and the Office of the Commissioner. The Boston Red Sox continue to support all efforts to rid the game of steroids. We again salute Commissioner Selig for his staunch and continuing leadership in eradicating the use of steroids in Major League Baseball.
At least he didn't forget how to speak English at the confence
I really don't like how the MLBPA Union cheif step up for Ortiz and did absolutely nothing for A-Rod.
fecksake, the game is national blackout today, I just settled down ready to enjoy getting to watch a full game for the first time in ages and its a blackout, why do they blackout international viewers the fecks.
Does it? Never been sat down this early so I hope you are right. Hope this one aint on till a mental time, I gotta be up for a trip to Wembley tomorrow
Yeah I will go for the audio if all else fails. Hopefully we get to hear "The Yankees Win! The-e-e-e-e-e Yankees Win!"
