2009 Baseball Season

That 2nd one was awesome, when he catches one I love the way he just aggresively rips at it and you know its gone before the camera even turns to look.

The charisma and crowd-pleasing antics are just the icing... professional, in the community, a friend to many players, respectful, honest, champion.

I love the guy I think he's a fantastic talent, unlike A-Rod, Bonds, etc.

Totally agree, comes across as the ultimate professional and has the talent to back him. When is he a free agent? 2010 or 11? I can't seem him even leaving the Cards at this point.

The Dodgers second half collapse has begun. I predict they don't win the division. Either Giants or Rockies will take it.

Their bullpen is shot and their starters can't pitch deep into games. It's a recipe for disaster. Most innings pitched by a bullpen in the majors. Their ace Billingsly has turned to a pile of shit. Should make for an exciting Sept.

Astronomical numbers to pay probably, but the payback for years of loyalty I reckon.

You know the Yankees and LAx2 will be in the running... hell if Lars Anderson doesn't kick in, Lowell retires, and Youkilis can play 3rd on a regular, I wouldn't mind a cheeky Sox bid

Giants are World Series quality right now, if Tim Lin can get over his jitters he picks up from time to time and Cain can keep his consistancy, there's not alot of teams that can stop them.

Probally not what it's meant for in this thread.
My grandson, who is 12, was asked to play for an American based team here in the UK. They are affiliated with "Little League" in the US.
He has made the all star team and will be playing in a knock out tournament in Poland in August. If the come in the top two they will immediately fly to Pennsylvania for the Little League championship. Right proud of him I am.

Thats great, I've always wanted to start baseball over here but theres nowhere local to me.

fecking hell America, sort yourself out

Watching a Pittsburgh game and they're advertising 'all you can eat' seats

Cut to pictures of a row of fat bastards gorging themselves whilst watching the game

Well, usually the biggest cheer of the night is when they hand out free burritos or pizzas..

Dodgers will do it, I'm positive

Currently sitting in first with 325 innings pitched by their bullpen, far most in the majors.

Their starter has turned to complete shit over the past month and 1/2.

Pitching is what wins championships.

The Dodgers are fecked.

Great to hear ukbob, congrats for the young one, must be proud

Why were you watching a Pittsburgh game? They are horrible and are in the process of making themselves worse by trading away the rest of their players

 it's funny 'cause it's true.

Im glad the Sox are in the AL for that reason alone... hell, even the worst teams in the AL are decent enough and have good enough young players.

It only makes it easier for the Cubs though, so it is not all bad. That being said will the Pirates ever have a good team? I just don't see it happening unless they change owners

The Curse of Jim Leyland

No Huntington has them in a different direction with re-building, there's a bit of minor league stability and the trades of Bay and Nady are good, and soon enough Sanchez as well.

They should be able to build and kick in soon, but you expect in a sports successful city (Steelers, Penguins), their poor performances are going under the radar and not getting the attention.

Well it's ESPN America, they show their 'official' games like they do for you over there, but they also show the market games too, hence seeing some less high profile games

Oh I see, that is pretty cool. Do they show NFL games as well for you?

Yeah, their minor league system should be good but once those players get good with the real club they get traded to a bigger team. It seems like an endless cycle.

But he's only been in the job since 2007, a period in which he's changed the face of this team entirely.

Tons of good young pieces for the future, it reminds me of the Rays slightly

I hope they become good, because it will make baseball more competitive. They should just combine the Nationals and the Pirates

Yeh they do, but I'm not into that

They had the hockey too. Only thin they don't seem to have is NBA. Which is fine by me, I hate basketball. Do show college stuff mind

Basketball at times can be boring, I am a big fan of college basketball though and watch a ton of that.

Yankees surging ahead of the Sox in the AL East. Should be a close race right down to the end. Manny pinch hit a grand slam for the dodgers. If they get Halladay they would be favorites to win the World Series imo.

Halladay is a beast and would improve any team he goes too. I am just hoping the Brewers, Cardinals, or Astros don't make any big moves this year.

Some great pitchers on the mound tonight. Haren goes for 11 against the pirates while wainwright, CC, Weaver and Hamels also starting.

Lance Parrish played for the Phillies for one season. I was at a game, sitting near the batter's box, when he let a pitch the pitcher was trying to fool him with go by for a ball. I yelled Good eyes, Lance. He looked up at me and smiled. Sigh.

This is the picture he gave me when I moved from Yorba Linda

He was also a United fan ( wonder how that happened?) When he was commentating for Detroit radio every Monday he used to ask " I wonder how United did this weekend" even when the footy season had ended.

One of the nicest men you could ever meet. At the end of the baseball season he would always call and arange a mexican lunch.

Neat story, sort of have a connection along the lines with Matt Stairs... before he decided to be amazing he played co-ed ball with my mom and my uncle, and to this day he doesn't hesitate to invite us up to his home in like, 3rd home in New Brunswick when he crosses the border.

Matt Stairs always seems like a cool guy when I see him on TV

Big trade today Holliday to the Cards also looks very likely Halladay to the Phillies.

I hope Holliday blows but I am sure he will do good. I don't know about that trade though, considering Holliday is a FA after this season.

Halladay to the Phillies seems like it would guarantee that the Phillies would make the playoffs and do some damage in them

Holliday Behind Pujols

Anyways the Halladay to Phillies rumors seem to have died out a bit
