For 25M€ he would be a great addition to us, but he's German, and with Bayern interested by him, it seems that we are already off to the chase and we'll only be his second choice.

He will give us more technical abilities to our midfield, and more fluidity. This year it has been very slow and sometimes so boring. With this kind of player, able to find the verticality with a pass, I guess that we'll be better armed to fight in Europe especially.

But, I just hope that we can lure him, as he's an upgrade to Fellaini, in a box to box style. He would be also a great complement to Carrick (and maybe play Ander higher)... So he would give us a lot of possibility in midfield.

Beautifully constructed post.

Kroos was also infinitely better when comparing form over his season and Gundogan's this season.

I thought they wanted Hojbjorg on loan or something and Bayern didn't want that? What I heard at least, that and that Pep wasn't convinced.

I just put in my post what BILD had as an article in the night and why the contract talks between Bayern and Gündogan failed. Exorbitant wage demands and only Sammer and Reschke (technical director) wanted him whereas Rummenigge and Pep weren't keen on him.

Höjbjerg - I doubt that we would loan him to Dortmund to play Europa League - then a loan again to Augsburg would be better. It is closer and he will start there. Right now he is called back to Munich and there will be a decision if he gets loaned out again or if he stays in Munich.

Short memory mate. Smallings done well (or better than usual, more to the point) the last few months of the season - not the whole season. Herrera wasnt shit-hot in the 1st half of the season either.

Both look nailed on for a good whole season next though - bar injuries of course, which is pretty likely with Smalling unfortunately..

As regards to Gundogan - German's are homebirds & it was always on the cards that he would want to stay there & screw Dortmund by whoring himself to Bayern.

No chance he's coming to United if Bayern want him - regardless if we're willing to pay more dough too!

The silver lining to that dark cloud is I cannot see Bayern fitting in all those midfielders, they will have to let one go and perhaps that would be bastian.
I think we should sign Schneiderlin regardless and sign either Bastian or Gundogan ... that is a midfield that is capable of challenging on all fronts.

After Smallings mistake in the derby he is been pretty good IMO. He just needs an experienced CB beside him and Hummels, Otamendi or Godin would do the trick.

Missed 27 games in 6 years if taking away his back injury. Am I reading that correct because if so that's not bad at all. Half our squad probably missed that many games over last two years!

He was out 442 days since 08/09, which is the last 6 years, which was 116 games in 6 years, averaging 20 games a season he misses, @ivaldo classifies that as
an iscolated incident with his back was no different to Paul Scholes and his eye
. I'm interested, did you pull your comment from nowhere or? It's not even remotely true..

But 400 or so of those days must have been for one injury, right?

Do you have a clue what you are talking about?

See this.. http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ilkay-gundogan/verletzungen/spieler/53622

 Someone's feeling sassy. 88 of those games were for an 'isolated incident'. You remove that 'iscolated incident' as I stated and you have a grand total of 27 games missed from injury in 6 years, I beleive 4 of those were related to the 'iscolated incident' so you're down to 23, that works out on an average of under 4 games a season. How does that not prove my point? See me and the other guys are wondering where YOU pulled your comment from...

Maybe a silver-lining to some, but not particularly to me. Hypothetically, we get Schweinie at 31 years old & surplus to Pep's plans & Bayern get Gundogan at 24 years old & yet to hit his peak?!

Bayern will be laughing their arse off if the above happens!

I have to say; Smalling has grown into the role at the back since the turn of the year & he's stayed relatively injury-free the last number of those months (if memory-serves?), so i see good things ahead for him & us; but the sour point is - he's unreliable to stay fit & if he cant stay fit, then he'll never get the games to improve as player for us.

I'm done with us playin poker with our defence. They're all a bunch of crocks (have been for years) & we need reinforcements that are better than what we have also.

Smalling is a competitor for the starting 11 (after a solid last 3rd of the season - he's improving) - Jones should only be back up (still a mental case); which means we get 2 CB's & get rid of that serial crock Evans too - he's been absolutely shite even when he is fit!

That'll leaves us next season with Smalling - 1st eleven option; 2 top-class CB's - 1st eleven options; Jone's - back-up; Rojo - back-up.

McNair is not a CB (right-back at best, but needs a helluva lot of work), so he shouldnt be playin there ever again if we get 2 top-class CB's in, that will improve us immensely & make us serious challengers for everything next season - with extra additions in other areas too, of course.

Can anyone who watches him regularly tell me how good has he been after his injury?

Still has that Scholesy-like quality about him Pent - only he's a better tackler :D

Does my head in thinkin we might get someone as good as Scholesy. Just sounds too good to be true, but he'd be the closest thing i've seen yet imo.

Check out this vid of his past season - he's exactly what we need & would have God-like status at OT. Crackin opening tune too:

I think the fact that he has admitted talking to barca shows the whole 'can't register till January' thing isn't a problem for him, which means he'll end up at barca.

Very well suited them too, sadly.

Sadly Barcelona will probably be a more attractive option to him right now. Shame that ban ends in January as opposed to next summer, from our point of view.

A lot of rumours on Gundogan to united today.

I saw one or two rumours earlier but they looked like old news, no new quotes.
If we cannot sign him with one year left on his contract after he is just coming back from a major injury then we will never sign him.

A German friend just text me saying they announced it on German TV that we signed him. I think he might be wumming me, can any German posters confirm or deny?

Can be easily explained...Metro yesterday dreamed the story up, Sportsvibe copied the Metro article and then The Daily Star took the BS from Sportsvibe and then I guess the story probably made it's way to a few German versions of Metro by this morning

Yeah the newest stories are bullshit, still confident he's coming here though, I have my sources.

I don't have any sources.

This is what Anderson should've become (not a fat joke). His passing style is more aggressive than Scholes', as it seems.

look at this review of the Gundogan rumour from teamtalk.com

''UNITED CLOSE ON GUNDOGAN''

Man United to ANNOUNCE signing of Ilkay Gundogan after Dortmund star AGREES terms, says/shouts a reports on the Daily Star website.

Get past the headline, however, and you will find the Star says the news is actually according to Sportsvibe.

So to Sportsvibe we go for an article, from yesterday, which says Louis van Gaal is 'on the verge' of announcing Gundogan as his second signing of the summer after Memphis Depay.

The website, however, adds this is according to the Metro.

Now we are as far back as 8.39am yesterday, at which time the Metro published a story United will 'reportedly' win the race for Gundogan.

They link to a story on Tuesday from Calciomercato but, unsurprisingly, the Italian website was not the original source for a story about a Bundesliga player joining a Premier League side.

No, Calciomercato was merely reporting a rumour from the English press. And can you guess which newspaper they quote? Yes, the Daily bloody Star. 'Set to announce', indeed.

I think if we definitely are Interested and he was close to agreeing with us but got his head turned by bayern. I have no clue what will happen next but if he is stalling on us for a move to barca in jan, then they can have him.

Gundogan (pre back injury) was my #2 cm pick for us after Modric.
He looked pretty good when I saw him play in the 2nd half of this season and for the price I think He is definitely worth the gamble.

Daily Star should be banned on here tbh.

Has anyone any knowledge of the Express or Star EVER calling one right? I have been following the last few summer transfer windows religiously and I have never seen either break a story and that story then proceed to be true. I'd like to see them, the sun and the metro banned. The Mail is the only tabloid that seems to have connected journalists.

'Gold Trafford' works/worked for the Star. He always claimed to be ITK but all he ever did was quote from other sources. Twat. That paper us a rag I wouldn't even wipe my arse on

Funny enough, The Express said a week before we signed him that we were interested in Herrera again and that we would make a bid or something like that. I remember that well, they had quotes from his agent that Herrera is happy at Atheltic and that there is no transfer talk. Probably just luck, but i still find it quite astonishing.
