Thanks, i've only watched him a couple of times before his injury. If i was van Gaal, i'd be making a serious push for Schneiderlin too. Schneiderlin, Gundogan (if he comes good after his serious injury) and Herrera as a midfield three would be fantastic business for United.

For the type of football LvG likes they'd be ideal, he seems to want the midfield to be solid and possession based, minimum risk, those 2 added to what we have would give us a fantastic array of versatile options in the 2 midfield roles.

 with all fit and firing that's the best midfield in world football.

I never really found out what he had. It was only "back problems" without much more information. He either will have found a solution for his problem - then he will be fine - or have consistent problems with it. For the first speaks that there haven't been any problems since October/November. But I guess that prior to a transfer that will be checked by the club's medicine department...

For me Gündogan is the real gem of the Dortmund players - not Reus and probably not Hummels. He is very disciplined and intelligent - with the right mentality. That really sounds like a van Gaal kind of player.

The only time I've watched him carefully was against Bayern last week. He looked top quality - the kind of player who could orchestrate our midfield for years to come. If he really is available for £20m, I'd jump at the chance.

Even if he never recovers his best form, he's pretty good now. We wouldn't lose any money!

I would love to sign him and he would be perfect for our 4-3-3 next season.

But Arsenal & Atletico Madrid are very interested in him too according to the german press and i would expect all top clubs would want for that price in consideration of his contract sitution.

First Vidal, Strootman and now Ilkay

Why are we targeting crocks?

Unlike the 1st two, he has completed a successful return from injury. Whether it happens again is anybody's guess but atleast we're not looking to sign him right off the bat after an injury like it was for Vial and Strootman.

Im hoping and praying we can somehow sign Koke. I have no idea if LVG s targetting him, i also have no idea if Atletico would sell and how much for but i really do think we should be doing all we can do sign this guy as he is amazing.

That being said i would take Gundogan. I assume he is not back to his best after injury, but if we can get him back to his best then he is some player.

a risk but if at 15million, a risk worth taking for.

he is superb. one of the best 2 footed player in the world today. would be a great successor for carrick too.

Carrick
Herrera - Gundogan

I'm surprised he's mentioned as Carrick replacement as I always saw him as a more box to box player.

I haven't read the whole thread so is this coming from reliable source or just some stupid rumour ?

Pre injury he was better than Koke. Would take the gamble.

Not sure whether I would take the gamble with him tbh, I think Owen Hargreaves has scarred me for life in regards to taking 'gambles' on players.

Price wise he's no more a gamble than Young and it took him 5 years to find his best form again.

True, But I just think for that money I would prefer someone like Schneiderlin who looks excellent at the moment in a proven Premier League team. Saying that though, IF Gundogan is actually physically ready and looks like he is able to improve without breaking down again then i'd agree he would be a great signing, I'm just not so sure that would be the case especially in a demanding Premier League.

The prices fopr Gundogan are prob half what Schneiderlin will go for. I'd want them both personally we need more than 1 CM this summer IMO.

Carrick
Herrera - Gundogan

When I saw him he played most of the time CM/box to box. However whereas Herrera played box to box with the tendency to AM Gündogan seems to play a bit deeper so they should complement each other.
Koke is a fantastic player - however I woud say Gündogan shares more attributes with Carrick.

That's how I see it, particularly if we're in Europe as Fellaini is likely to be penalised a lot more

Oh behave  ..

Front 3 options of Di Maria, Mata, Rooney, Depay, Bale?

Before his back injury, Gundogan was one of the best deep lying CM's in Europe and for £15m we really cannot go wrong.
With Hummels en route, I am surprised BVB would sell Gundogan but perhaps after all the injuries they think the time is right to sell as well.

Carrick
Herrera - Gundogan --> is a midfield of winning both the league and the Champions League.

There is absolutely no chance Gundogan will be the main CM addition to our squad this summer. He may come in but with this injury and subsequent drop in level he's back-up to someone else guaranteed!

Give him a chance - he's not been back that long has he? Will take time to get back that form after so long out.

Same thing I noted, but anything can happen in football. Gundogan may recapture his old form and away from home, a three man midfielder consisting of Gundogan, Herrera and Carrick or blind may be what is best tactically.

Gundogan in 2012/13 was world class.

He's still young enough that he'll return to that level.

I am giving him a chance. Its those that expect him to walk into our team and suddenly make up a world class trio I'm laughing at. He needs to be brought in slowly and even then its 50/50 whether he'll ever be a nailed on starter for us. He was world class. But we wouldnt be first in line for him this summer if he was still at that level.

I think bringing him in for 15m is a masterstroke, we will need quality and quantity in the midfield when we are playing 2 games a week next season.

Thats why I suggest if he is brought in it will be in addition to a fully fit, less of a gamble top class performer in 2015.

Dortmund offered him a new contract, but he always wanted to go abroad. Before his injury he didn't sign a new contract either and it was likely that he would have moved to a big club that summer, but his injury fecked that up and no one wanted him to sign and take the risk, which is understandable, so he signed another short-term contract with Dortmund, which was the best for both sides. Now its either a new long-term contract or he leaves this summer, so he wants to get his move this summer. I would like to see him another year at Dortmund and see how he recovers further, but with one year left on his contract, that will not happen and it's now the time to sign him. 15 million wouldn't be a big risk to be honest.

With 26 apps under his belt so far this season for a struggling Dortmund his back troubles seem behind him and in what games I have watched he has played well. Yes he may not be at the heights of top form but who is at that club right now..maybe Reus that's about it. For the reported 15m fee he would be a steal and the age he's at it's a no brainer as he can surely get back to how he was when being touted as one of the best midfielders in Europe. Obviously he'd have to pass a stringent medical first.

If we include Mata as a winger/wide forward we only have four central midfielders. We probably need two more really, considering we always play a three in midfield.

Getting Gundogan on the cheap would be great business.

I agree with that. Gündogan was on his way to become a worldclass player. He has the skillset to control games and the ability to create opportunities for his teammates. He is intelligent enough to combine both roles. He is a very complete CM and reminds me of Modric. He is certainly not a replacement for Carrick and should play with a DM/holding player behind him.
He didn’t play particularly well this season, but he showed some sparks of his former quality. I expect him to bounce back next season, if (and that’s a big if!) he found a solution for his back-problems. He is too talented and too intelligent to fail.
Buying him for a reasonable price (<20m) would be great business.

Agreed 100%....Gundogan (pre back injury) was second only to Modric in terms of deep lying playmakers who can do everything. Signing him and Hummels would make us favorites to win the title next season IMO.

Not so long ago Nev and Carra were wanking over how compact team looked against City. If Gundogan can both position himself for aggressive defending and support of the build up then it could be a very logical signing.

Assessments of health condition would probably have to be made first but if all is good with him then why not... I'm 100% sure that Van Gaal is still monitoring Strootman's situation but it really shouldn't interfere with a chance of signing a proper player to the system.
