Most definitely, he could play as the #6 or #8 and be comfortable in both roles.
Thanks, i've only watched him a couple of times before his injury. If i was van Gaal, i'd be making a serious push for Schneiderlin too. Schneiderlin, Gundogan (if he comes good after his serious injury) and Herrera as a midfield three would be fantastic business for United.

Probably as comfortable as a non-Spanish midfielder who isnt Pirlo is going to be yeah. At his best he would stylistically have been the type of player who could play for your Barcelona - but then again I'd say the same about Fabregas and some people felt differently
We probably would have made a move for him if hadn't been so seriously injured.

Sounds great to me. Schneiderlin is my pick too

Uh oh. Dortmund losing 0-3 to Gladbach. Is anyone watching the game and how is Gundogan doing? Or Hummels for that matter.

Based on his potential and top form he is clearly underperforming this season, which is understandable after his very long injury. He has yet to rediscover his complete edge in terms of tackling and a lot of his pressing resistance. His passing (especially his range) and close control are still there, though. He had his best games alongside Sahin, who relieved him of some of his former tasks and covered him defensively.

The BILD story is not more reliable as the one in the DailyMail, because it cites the latter as source.

However, sources close to Dortmund state that he will be sold this Summer if he does not renew his contract soon. The officials have appearantly made a final offer, which would make him the second best payed player after Reus. If that is not enough for Gündogan, I see United as one of the most likeliest destinations. If he manages to recapture his form prior to the back injury, he would be an upgrade for Herrera and a steal. If he stays at his current level, he would be at least a solid back up option for the Spaniard for a sum, which does not really hurt them.
Understandable that after a long injury like his, that his tackling and energy in pressing will take longer to come back. You'd expect him to have to get over the psychological barrier of throwing himself into tackles without being worried of injury or pain. If the technical side of his game is still there then you'd expect a full recovery to be much more likely.

Has to be Pogba as our #1 midfield target for me. If he is in any way open to the deal, he comes first for me.

Yep he'd be mine too but I think we should act fast, if we do approach him and he starts giving off all the classic "only God knows where I'll be next season" or "I'm still happy at Juventus" shit then we should move on. Otherwise we might spend the whole summer chasing him, only for Real to gazump us whilst the alternatives sign for Arsenal or Chelsea, and finally Nigel De Jong ends up as our our sole midfield signing.

And rightfully so, fabregas isn't made from the finest of technical material. Modric, verratti and banega would have something to say about your first statement.

Sahin has been the much more impactful central midfielder than Gündogan since the Turk returned from Real Madrid.

I am impressed with him this season to be honest, he had some really good games and moments, after his injury I didn't expect anything from him anymore. He is far away from his top level of course, but after this season I am more confident that he can return to this form. He would be still a gamble, but after his injury and his current contract situation he should be available for a decent fee. I read something about 15-20 million euros? That wouldn't be a big risk and could be great value. He was one of my favorite signings before his injury, so it's difficult for me, I would love a transfer to happen, but on the other side it could be a big risk if he is the only CM signing in the summer.

Considering that Gundogan didn't played for a year, that is to be expected.

I have mixed feelings for him (if we sign him). On one side, he has potential to be the best midfielder in the world (he was on top 3-top 5 prior to his injury). On the other side, his injury has been very serious and I fear we may have an another Hargreaves/Falcao scenario.

Apparently German media over the weekend, mainly the papers were reporting that we're discussing a £15m deal for Gundogan after allegedly completing Hummels.

This was one of them.

Damn I'm such a transfer muppet, why do I get sucked into these?

Imagine Gundogan, Herrera and Carrick next season, we wouldn't lose the ball!

Contract slowly coming to an end, shouldn't be expensive. Could be a value for money signing if true.

I never really found out what he had. It was only "back problems" without much more information. He either will have found a solution for his problem - then he will be fine - or have consistent problems with it. For the first speaks that there haven't been any problems since October/November. But I guess that prior to a transfer that will be checked by the club's medicine department...

For me Gündogan is the real gem of the Dortmund players - not Reus and probably not Hummels. He is very disciplined and intelligent - with the right mentality. That really sounds like a van Gaal kind of player.

From my very limited viewing, I agree with you. Looks a tailor made LvG midfielder

Yup. A bit different in playing style to Carrick, but still perhaps a solid long term replacement for him.
Has the confidence and calm of Carrick allied to the passing ability of course. Big difference is that this guy really does drive forward. If Herrera and he combine well...boy it would be a great Midfield

2 Dortmund players to the same club in the same summer? I find it very hard to believe

Just the one probably, Hummels

He's nothing like Carrick for me its abit like people saying Wilshere can replace Carrick for England. Different types completely.

Never said he was the same as Carrick. Try reading posts before shooting posters down.

Carrick was completely different to Keane but effectively he was his replacement.

I'd like to know how he's played since returning form injury. Two years ago, I would have said he was one of the top 5 young players in the world. Have no idea how good he is now, haven't watched too much Bundesliga this year. Although, £15m would be worth it for the potential alone, if he has any chance in hell of reaching his former heights.
