Have barely seen him since before his injury. That being said prior to his back problems he was unbelievable, easily one of the top CM's in football. If he's as good as he once was or showing signs he still can be, it'd be worth a punt. Otherwise I'd steer clear, risks aren't what we need right now.

The Dortmund Rule plus his injury issues I just don't fancy this one. Maybe for £15m it's worth a punt but I just want us to go for a solid transfer with no risk.

I can't see him leaving Dortmund yet. They were so loyal and patient with him when he was injured, I think Gundogan is the type that'll respect that and try and pay back that trust.

Apparently Bild are reported it's close to completion

2 years ago this would have been the ultimate muppet signing, if he can get anywhere near his previous level it would be a great deal. Can anybody comment how he's done this season since returning from injury? I've seen very little of Dortmund lately.

Oh right. He has one year left on his contract. Either he signs a new contract or they'll probably sell him. Also where's his best position? He's not as attacking as Herrera, right? So playing a Carrick/Blind, Herrera, Gundogan midfield should be pretty balanced.

Different players but is his position similar to that of say a Verratti?

Ive seen a few games of his this year and he didnt look great, not awful but not the player he was... Were saying that at 24? He may pick it back up but he isnt what we need right now simply, we dont need any more question marks that may come good, most dont. We need to be moving for the top players and Gundogan currently isnt near that. Id rather we get a younger raw version with a higher ceiling if we are taking chances but ideally a player like Schneiderlin would be a similar position/age/price and player but would do far better here imo due to the fact we know he can perform in this league.
Schneiderlin would cost twice as much now, I'd also fancy a lot more competition too. For £15mil he's definitely worth it.

Seen a Liverpool fan tweet this

Seeing United being linked to Hummels and Gundogan at the same time as we're linked with Milner and Ings. :')

Verratti is better in tight spaces and a superior player in some ways but gundogan is a better passer of the ball. For 15m (if he stays fit) it would be an absolute steal. We have Blind who can play that role so having Schneiderlin would be an luxury

Some of this seasons highlights:

Lots of diagonal high balls so I can see why LVG may still fancy him doing a good job here. Plus his contract expires in Jun 2016 so with 1 year left, we could negotiate a reasonable price singularly or as part of a double for Hummels. That said, both have been injured and generally short of even close to their best form.

What options are there though - it's looking like that we're after an 8 as opposed to a defensive specialist?

Khedira has been injured a lot but is available for nothing.
Pogba is a serious doubt if he'd even want to come back not to mention the huge cost.
Strootman is close to broken.
Modric is unlikely.
Cabaye has had a rough year.
Schneiderlin would be good but comes at a PL premium price.

I would have Milner at United, very reliable and can play in about 4/5 different positions across the pitch. Important sort of player to have throughout the season, especially given our annual injury period

Sign him up! ..

He's only 24 and at 15m he is worth every bit of the gamble! Just imagine if he recaptured even most of his form, he'd boss the midfield with Herrera!

Hummels and Gundogan my two favorite Dortmund players

Dortmund don't sell 2 big names in one window. Simple as that imo.

Please, no injury plagued players, let him have another year at Dortmund, same as Strootman with Roma,
Out of all clubs we should know the pitfalls of recruiting players coming off of serious injuries most of all, given the Falcao situation.

Made my morning.

He's returned well from injury. Not at his previous level but still at a good level. Hopefully over the next year or two he can get back to 2012/2013 best.

Gündogan is definitely worth £15m. He's at a good level now, with huge growth potential if he maintains his fitness. I think we need him or similiar to replace Carrick's controlling of games and a physically dominant player like Pogba or Schneiderlin. Then we have a top class midfield: Herrera - Schneiderlin - Gündogan with Fellaini - Carrick - Blind.

Why not? A midfield two of Strootman and Gundogan:drool: Maybe we can tempt Hargreaves out of retirement as well. What's Saha upto these days?

Imagine if him and Reus were actually fit for the World Cup. Unbelievably good German team.

I agree, we shouldn't buy anyone who has ever had an injury. Hurt you're back? You're out. Pulled a hamstring? You're out? Had a cold? You're out. Premature ejactulator? You're out.

@ivaldo, I can't believe you just compared Gunogan's injury to having a cold.

He might be worth a punt. You can sign any player and injury strike at any time. Likewise sometimes you see players always injured fit for other clubs. A move to United or another club might renew his confidence. You are not a top player if you lack brains and we've seen players that have adapted their game. It's just typical that Vidal, Strootman and Gundogan have had these injury problems.

Dortmund will replace him with Johannes Geis and get the better player for cheaper. I do wonder what are scouts are doing half the time.

He reminds me of Koke so much. I think Koke is a better tackler and more dynamic(ability to play left or center) while Gundogan is a more efficient passer but overall they seem pretty similar to me in the sense that they can defend as well as attack, good range of passing and they're pretty similar in their physical build too, also the same age. I think he can be as good as Koke.

Bild is just copying the Mail. Would be surprised if this was actually real...

It's in the print version of Bild, so it's doubtful that they'd be copying the Mail. It's probably his agent using us to put more pressure on Dortmund regarding contract negotiations.

I'm supposed you found the cold comment the most surprising :D

He's playing football again with no signs of his spinal operation affecting him, I feel it would be more prudent to judge and assess players individually as apposed to excluding everyone who's been out with a long term injury.

Sign him up. Only 24, big engine on him and most importantly he has an absolutely sublime passing range.

Normally I'd be dead set against going for a player with these sort of injury concerns but in this case the reward might outweigh the risk. We'd be getting a potentially world class player for cheap as feck (if the story is true, which it more than likely isn't). How badly wrong could it really go?

What's the point? He wouldn't be more than a backup to Herrera and he isn't defensively good enough to replace Carrick if that's what we are planning.
Could potentially replace Fellaini, linking up with Blind and Young on the left.

I just don't know how he's done since he's been back though. If we got the same player he was before the injury, being in for him shouldn't even be a question.
