Not bothered if we miss out on him. Would obviously improve our midfield, but people are going on as if he is of the Messi/Ronaldo level.

We will find another midfielder of similar level if this doesn't turn out to be in our favour. We may pay a bit more, but it's really not the end of the world.

Has Gun Dog actually successfully returned 100% from injury?
No. He isn't anywhere near 100% at this point. He has played a lot of matches but still seems to be carrying a bit of weight and he doesn't have the agility and acceleration that made him so good. The comments about him never getting above a jog seem spot on to me, at this point in his comeback he looks very one paced to my eyes.

Those problems sound like they're to do with him carrying a bit of extra timber. Looking at the way LvG has dealt with Shaw, I can see them getting sorted as a high priority.

What is this nonsense about him being the best player in the CL final? He was average that day. Revisionism at its finest.

If a just returned from injury Gundogan (aged 24) with a year remaining on his contract is worth 30 million euros, surely one of the best keepers in the world (aged 24) with a year remaining on his contract should be worth much more than 30 million euros (being touted for DDG in the media)

Honestly if we can get a reasonable alternative I'd prefer we waited till he's fully fit again to consider a purchase.

We would likely have Bayern, Madrid and Barcelona sniffing around if he returns to being one of the best midfielders in the world. Now is the time to gamble - unfortunately though whenever we gamble on a player recovering from injury it rarely pays off. RvN being the most notable exception (although I don't even remember the ins and outs of that injury anyway).

I really don't know him well enough to judge the quality of the player but I have to say if there is any doubt at all about his fitness I'd be hesitant about signing him. I know every transfer has its risks but I'd rather we minimised them by avoiding players not fully recovered from long term injuries, or who are notoriously injury prone. As someone said above I'm finding it hard to be enthusiastic about this guy, or Hummels for that matter. I'm sure they were both outstanding and may well be again but I'd rather fork out more to avoid adding to our inevitable injury crisis next season, which I'm sure will be be bad enough as it is without signing any other players likely to be caught up in it.

(Cont) ... or who ultimately wont be any better than the options we already have because they never fully recover from their injuries.

Now is not the time to strengthen the squad, its the time to improve the quality of the strongest team we can put out.

It was a gamble at the time. Definitely paid off!

Didn't someone post a stat about him making the sixth highest number of appearances for Dortmund last season?

We've seen with Rio and Terry that footballers can put back injuries behind them and become a first team stalwart and they must have been close to 10 years older than Gundogan when they had their problems.

£20m is peanuts to us. He's well worth the gamble. Him and Thiago were the best two young midfielders in the world. Thiago suffered just as bad an injury and he seems to be recovering well now too.

I see there is a number of comments about his physical condition and whether we should take a risk on him, even from me, but it is worth noting that Utd will carry out a full extensive analysis of his medical state before committing to any transfer.

I have full confidence in our medical team on whatever decision they make on him.

Goalkeepers are generally worth a lot less in the market, isn't De Gea at £18m the most expensive keeper in the world?

But I do agree that he should be worth a lot more than €30m regardless.

Im not having a dig at our medical staff at all. In a sense I agree with you, in that I am sure a club of our stature has very capable people employed on the medical staff. But history tells me that having too much confidence in any medical team's ability to predict the future is foolhardy. I guess anyone can succumb to injury and there is no way of knowing... but we have had more than our fair share of injury prone players walk through the door. You look at the likes of Hargreaves and Saha for example, if they can pass medicals it just makes you wonder what medicals actually pick up.

Again, Im not saying our medical team is poor, Im sure they would have passed medicals at other clubs too. But I cant hand on heart say I have full confidence that our medical team will make the right decision. I think with things like this luck plays a very big part. For every player that overcomes these types of injuries there is another who's career is scarred forever, listing players in each camp doesnt prove anything either way.

The thing about Gundogan is that he isn't injury prone like Falcao or Schweinstiger. He's just gradually recovering from a very long term injury. To compound his problem, his post injury rehab has had to happen while playing for a team woefully out of form and ideas. He's still only 24, and isn't exactly a player who relies on physicality. It's no more risky than signing another 25m rated midfielder IMO.

Already responded to this, their too old for us.
Well Messi will turn just 28, with his playing style which isnt based on his physique, we can get another great 6 yeara out of him. Then we have accomplished the mission buying a new team in two summers, valdes, clyne, hummels, rojo, shaw, gundogan, herrera, di maria, bale, messi, depay.

This is what some people can't seem to grasp. Even if he was injury prone, so what? football is about taking gambles and if you shy away from everything because of risk, you'll hardly sign anyone and we probably wouldn't have a 20th Premier League title.

Buffon was around £32m in 2001.

For what this guy is capable of, a deal around 20m is an absolute steal and risk worth taking. Let him rehab over summer and get a good pre-season under his belt and that's the Carrick position sorted for the next 10 years.

This deal is a must.

Oh feck off Bayern. fecking boring club.

I'm sure Dortmund would rather send him abroad. If our interest is genuine they will sell him to us.

whats happened cannot read them

I can't disagree with above but what i am trying to say is that the medical team will do their due diligence, also there maybe a possibility they find something not quite right in his medical condition but may decide to take a punt on him as the fee is relatively low.

Dortmund are a joke. Look at the cnut smiling and blushing. It's like they are delighted and purring with pride and pleasure to see their big brother grab another one of their players.

I think for sky to say we were talking last week suggests we are defo in for him. He'll choose Bayern I'm sure as they all seem to do. Its about time we turned this juggernaut to the horizon and blew them out of the water.
