Ah the old comparing midfielder quality with goals scored...
His stats aren't bad or too different to before, even if you look at pass completion, tackles, interception, dribbles and all that. You can just tell when watching him he isn't at his best yet. Hope we get him and think he can get back there, and hes still a good player even if he doesn't, but you can't really put it in stats what's different.

Correct, the first part of my reaction was a click bait performance.

Back to your point. Sure, quality is categorised in many elements. If we are to open the file one would see an average of 86.9% pass success percentage in 18 games (Gundogan). If we compare that with a same type of player in the likes of Matic, he has an average of 84%, but that number is calculated from 30 games. Difficult task to compare him with other DM's, simply because he didnt play the same amount of games as the one to compare with. For a player recovering from that type of set back i personally think he will return to the same level any time soon.

So, Der Westen once again saying saying he's going to us.

If you want to use statistics, then you need more than that. Plus, he clearly isnt better than before, he is still trying to find his rythm and form again, understandably.

One can deduce from those statistics that he needed less games to score the same amount of goals before his injury. Do those statistics prove that he is a better player then before his injury ? Absolutely not. That would go against all principes of logical/rational/reasonable discussing.

Because he's not long back form a serious injury. I'm not saying we wont buy him or he wont be good for the team for cover and competition for places but I would be surprised if he is our main midfield target.

There's a huge difference between a good addition to the team and being the missing piece of the jigsaw, Gundogan is the former at the moment.

We all know a top class midfielder is sorely needed and you wouldn't place all your faith in someone returning from such a big injury who is not yet 100%, especially if you haven't had your own medical team assess him. LVG didn't take a chance on Vidal last summer and Strootman is off the wanted list for this summer as well due to his injuries.

Am I the only one not really sure whether I'd want him here? I just think that he maybe needs another season of being fully fit and then we will have a true reflection of what level he is actually at after the injuries etc.

They were both injured at the time and were playing limited amount of football. Gündoğan has already played 26 games this season with no recurrence of his back injury. Up until 2013 he was one of the best central midfielders in Europe and that just doesn't go away at his age. He's still very young at 24.

Signing him now isn't worth the 20m in risk? He's one of the best midfielders in the world and is still very young.

If he doesn't sign for us I will be be much more disappointed than any of our other linked targets. Having watched Dortmund's progress under Klopp, I truly appreciate what he would bring to our team.

Not sure how him not signing a contract is muppets gone wild, we need a carrick replacement so it's more common sense

Vidal had his injury in march or something like that and played during the summer instead of resting, Gundogan came back from his injury in October his injury his behind him, now. And I don't think that we are after the messiah, LVG wants good players who fit his system and can improve our overall level, only the fans are after the one player who will change everything.
Now, I don't if Gundogan suits LVG, but that's an other story.

the national team players Mario Goetze and Robert Lewandowski already piloted in the past few years out of the pot on the river Isar in this context

I would be surprised if LVG sees Gundogan as the main answer to the midfield problems. I would hope that its the fact that a very good player, who could add competition and cover in the midfield is available at a good price. You'd have to think that Dortmund would prefer the move to United instead of bolstering Bayern further and the cut price deal we did on selling them back Kagawa has to put us in some sort of good stead.

I think the idea will be for him to compete with/cover Carrick and Ander with the long term view of him taking over as our #6 when Carrick retires. He's not the player likely to offer the Fellaini upgrade.

Give it one year and he will once again worth 40m+.

Because he is hardly the physical type like Strootman who was nailed in to come! He's clearly not the player he was pre injury. Its a flick of a coin whether he'll return to his best or become another Anderson. For a manger only here most likely for another 2 seasons there's alot of reasons he woouldnt be gambling anything on Gundogan!

Fine, you don't have to yell at me.

He's definitly further along the road of recovery no doubt but I think most would agree he is not yet where he was prior to the injury and with such a serious back issue there will be a need for assessment etc.

I'm not denying his potential and the fact that he is on the right track but look at Hargreaves, these things can happen and never go away and I dont think LVG will want to pin his title winning aspirations on someone who is yet to get back to their peak.

Can't stres enough that I reckon Gundogan is worth a punt at a cut price but would hope its Gundogan and another midfielder. We could do with 2, the crisis caused when Carrick and Blind were injured means we could easily have 2 more players.

Why wouldn't we? Imagine if Herrera get's an injury for a month or more, who else will fill his role?. We can't rely on Di Maria and Rooney is nowhere near capable of being that player, we need somebody like Gundogan to take up the role.
