The good thing is his touch and vision are every bit as effective, after a good preseason he should've fully regained his natural fitness too.

How was his "engine"?

Non existent. Like I said in the match thread, he seemed incapable of breaking into anything more than a light jog. Showed zero aggression and he stayed deep like a 40 year old Pirlo (minus the passing range) the whole game. His touch under pressure looked good though. If he stays at the same level he'll need to be partnered with high energy midfielders to make up for his lack of an engine.

Whoever ends up getting him is taking a big gamble on whether he manages gets back into shape physically or not. I'd rather we just went for someone who was more of a sure bet.

Dani Parejo is a similar level to Ander (but also too similar to see us having both) so I'm sure he'll be one of those looked at by the top clubs needing a CM
Thanks Ekeke. Roma has Naingollan, plus 1 or 2 others. not exactly spoilt for choice, but there are a few outside of mega money players like Pogba and Verratti. (suppose they're not that young though).

Watching him last night I think I'd rather pay 60m for Pogba than 20m for Gundogan. Thats really how far he looks from his best and the PL is no place for a CM performing like he is right now. It was tiny bit like watching Anderson afew years back. Underwhelming
movement wise.

Watched him and Hummels, mainly. Thoughts on Gundogan vs Bayern:

Pro:
1. Distribution is excellent under pressure. Kept his cool and almost always found the right option.

2. In terms of creativity, his ability to thread a pass through the middle to create a counter was fantastic. Tended to look for the killer pass over the top when it's clearly on or when he's pressed with nowhere to go but backwards, which is safe if not as possession committed as LVG prefers.

3. Off the ball he tracked players well. Seemed to really know his job positionally. Not a lot of situations where a Bayern player in his vicinity was able to get free and receive a pass.

Con:
1. Long passing wasn't that accurate. Made good reads but failed to hit his target mostly.

2. Was dribbled/run past a few times fairly easily, as he's not that agile.

Cheers. I wouldn't worry too much about the first Con, he's capable of hitting the target more often than not with both feet any time I've watched him, could've just been a bad day at the office or playing against a well drilled world class squad.

You think they're that similar? Parejo is much smoother and a better passer but I don't think he's as good a fit for the Prem, as he's a bit less combative and all-action than Herrera.

He usually is, but actually his passing accuracy has been lower than Ander's this season.

And yes very similar :

Technical
Goalscoring from midfield
Good passer
Makes tackles (even more than Ander this season)

If anything Parejo has the better balance/more ability to hold off challenges

Duncan Wright trying to tell Twitter that he was told United arent in for Gundogan, Depay or Clyne

"Flies against what I thought, but been told #mufc are not signing Depay, Clyne or Gundogan this summer"

Pogba, Bale and Darmian should be good enough too

So it's likely that we sign all 3 then :)

Finally some confirmation. He is certainly gone this Summer. Let´s hope we get a good fee from him. Not sure it is the right move by him, though.

I think we'll sign him. This coupled with all those reports earlier makes it seem like we have a deal in place

Statistics prove that Gundogan is as good or perhaps better then before his injury.

Don't shoot the messenger. Sure, he had a set back with his injury, so from a physical point of view he will need some time to get back into form, but at his age 23 and the relatively low price tag it sure is worth a risk. Start the chopper Woodie!

So, who are the potential clubs hunting for his autograph ?

Arsenal
United
(Bayern, just to troll?)

This news will surely attract other clubs like City, Liverpool, PSG perhaps ? Don't think Barcelona and Madrid will open the file on this one.

This... Is not a good use of statistics

If you want to use statistics, then you need more than that. Plus, he clearly isnt better than before, he is still trying to find his rythm and form again, understandably.

Ah the old comparing midfielder quality with goals scored...
His stats aren't bad or too different to before, even if you look at pass completion, tackles, interception, dribbles and all that. You can just tell when watching him he isn't at his best yet. Hope we get him and think he can get back there, and hes still a good player even if he doesn't, but you can't really put it in stats what's different.

I think if his options are between us and Bayern, Dortmund will hope or push him to choose us. On the other hand if there are other clubs like Arsenal in the equation, it will be tough and we need to be decisive. I hope that we're really interested in signing him and it's not just the media playing games.

He was phenomenal before his injury, goal stats are a poor way to judge a CM. He's not close to that level but if we're satisfied with his injury record, its an absolute no brainer at 15mil or so. That much money gets you nothing these days. Worst case scenario, he'd be a superb squad player.

We clearly are interested and perhaps close to signing him, as the Sky Sports article suggested.

Gündogan not renewed - Farewell to the BVB is getting closer

Dortmund. Borussia Dortmund and Ilkay Gündogan are not valid nor extend the June 30, 2016 contract of midfielder. This was announced by the club on Thursday. This should be clear that the club Gündogan leaves as early as this summer. 2016 he was to have a free transfer.

Borussia Dortmund and Ilkay Gündogan are not cooperating over the summer 2016 addition. As the club announced on Thursday afternoon, the valid until 30 June 2016 contract of midfielder will not be renewed. The more likely is therefore that Gündogan leaves the Borussia already this summer. Only then that Dortmund could still collect a whopping transfer fee for the national team.

According to information of these editors of Premier League club Manchester United is to be united with the 24-year-olds. Other media also brought the Bayern Munich into the game, the national team players Mario Goetze and Robert Lewandowski already piloted in the past few years out of the pot on the river Isar in this context. The market value of Ilkay Gündogan is about 20 million euros, ManUnited is even willing to spend up to 30 million euros for the midfielder strategists.

I would be surprised if LVG sees Gundogan as the main answer to the midfield problems. I would hope that its the fact that a very good player, who could add competition and cover in the midfield is available at a good price. You'd have to think that Dortmund would prefer the move to United instead of bolstering Bayern further and the cut price deal we did on selling them back Kagawa has to put us in some sort of good stead.
