There's no way that Dortmund will sell Reus to us now that he has a longterm contract and no release clause. I doubt he'll leave at all this summer, but if he does, I'm 100% certain that his destination won't be Bayern. I also doubt we're stupid enough to pay big money for him now, if he could have left on the cheap a few months ago. He made his bed by signing a new contract.

We also aren't weak at centerback at all. Boateng has been fantastic for years now, Badstuber looked excellent this season, actually a lot better than Hummels. Benatia hasn't been fit once this season, but obviously is a top class centerback and we've played with Martinez and Alaba at centerback as well, both did really well. I don't think Hummels wants to return to us anyway, but I also think we're not the slightest bit interested in signing Hummels. Even if Dante leaves, I doubt we'll add a new centerback to the team.

Gündogan however is certainly possible. Schweinsteiger's and Alonso's contracts run out next year and it would make a lot of sense to add at least one more central midfielder to the team. His contract situation also helps a lot. If we convince Gündogan to join us, Dortmund again face the dilemma of selling to us this summer or letting him leave on a free next summer.

/edit:
I totally forgot that we signed Joshua Kimmich already. Unless Pep really turns him into a rightback, we don't need Gündogan. Alonso, Schweinsteiger, Lahm, Thiago, Martinez, Alaba, Rode, Kimmich really should be more than enough central midfielders going forward. It has a nice balance between young talents and experienced players as well.

Gündogan + a sneaky bid for Isco would be

Had been fit until march 2014, then injured until recently. I don't know if you have seen him since then, he's driving our club alone at the moment. Fantastic. Wouldn't call this dodging a bullet exactly. Still just 24, too.

I seen him pre bayern and for all his brilliance he gave the ball away for fun and we have Di Maria for that. Trust me Thiago wouldnt be driving any PL team to anything single handedly.

I meant gundogan

He became much less wasteful, plus it's kinda his role for us. Reliable passers in his back, him for the magic and creating something. He's got the best tackling statistic of all our central midfielders since his return, too.

I´d take him as well

I doubt Real will sell Carvajal and Isco. Their squad is already thin as it is and Arbeloa will probably leave this summer so they absolutely need Carvajal who loves the club. Isco is having a very good second season, which makes me wish Götze would improve his game similarly. There's definitely no reason for Real to sell unless we're willing to pay silly money (which we won't).

Anyway, Gündogan for € 30M with one year left on his contract? After that season and with his injury history? For the moment I think the rumours linking him to Bayern are simply a negotiation tactic by his agent to get more money from a club like United.

I wouldn't be so sure, Alonso is probably done at the absolute top level, the rumours of Schweini heading to MLS...we will need a new CM this or next year. Verratti will be extremly expensive, everyone is all over Pogba. That's pretty much it regarding young CM's.

are clearly not true. Didn't he recently say that he wants to play top level football at least until 2018? He just took over the captaincy for the nationalteam and wants to win the Euro in 2016. He's only 30 years old. Yeah, he struggled with many injuries since the World Cup, but he's way too young to retire and playing in the MLS would pretty much be an early retirement.

I dont think that those players are going to join us and I also agree that €30m for Gündogan is slightly too much. Still it would be great to get any of those three players for a reasonable fee.
I dont think, that Real´s squad is thin at all. Their only problem is, that they dont trust 2 of their midfielder (Khedira/Illara), while L.Silva is still new.

He did leave us for urgent transfer business. They never said it was for a certain player? In fairness Sky usually dont get involved until something is at least almost done.
On the evidence of what we have it seems more likely he left to sign a sponsorship deal with some noodle makers, seeing as it was 4 weeks after the sky announcement that we signed Fellaini.

They were playing hardball over Baines....I'm guessing but so is everyone. The fact is he did leave the tour. The fact is Sky would have asked their sources why....its no difference to them if it was for massive sponsorship or player transfers lets be honest and speculation would go on regardless!

Aye true, could have been the Baines deal thinking about it. forgot about that.

I still don't trust this club when it comes to signing players with an injury history.

For example we were in for Vermalaen of all people. It was sheer dumb luck that Barca beat us to him.

He can score penalties. Bayern will go all out for him.

Only saw the ET, but I thought he looked good. Beauty of a pen too.

Gif anybody? @GifLord if you're around mate :)

Only caught the extra time and penalties, how was he during the 90?

Dortmund barely touched the ball for an hour so his job was mainly to keep in shape with the rest of the team, once Dortmund started to actually play in the 75th minute he hit some nice passes and has a calmness on the ball that I think will suit LvG's midfield leanings.

Watched him and Hummels, mainly. Thoughts on Gundogan vs Bayern:

Pro:
1. Distribution is excellent under pressure. Kept his cool and almost always found the right option.

2. In terms of creativity, his ability to thread a pass through the middle to create a counter was fantastic. Tended to look for the killer pass over the top when it's clearly on or when he's pressed with nowhere to go but backwards, which is safe if not as possession committed as LVG prefers.

3. Off the ball he tracked players well. Seemed to really know his job positionally. Not a lot of situations where a Bayern player in his vicinity was able to get free and receive a pass.

Con:
1. Long passing wasn't that accurate. Made good reads but failed to hit his target mostly.

2. Was dribbled/run past a few times fairly easily, as he's not that agile.

76% pass accuracy was not too impressive. However he did plenty defensively making 3 tackles and 3 interceptions, thats as much as he used to do. And obviously he can be more accurate with his passing than that. Very good signs

How was his "engine"?

How was his "engine"?

As someone mentioned during the game "He can't seem to get out of jogging modus."

He honestly looks a bit slow and ponderous atm. It might be psychological though. Maybe he is afraid of picking up another back injury, which could be something he can overcome with time or the worse alternative is that he is physically incapable of going at another tempo after his injury. I hope it's the former though.

I like him, cracking player. Want him here. Only saw the extra time yesterday and I wouldn't say he had a particularly good game, though. Misplaced three passes in a really bad way for a cm and was easy to run past (lacks pace). I wouldn't read too much from that as he's obviously a good passer under pressure and his physical attributes will up eventually, at least to some margin. He will improve and for me is well worth paying 20m. The penalty was a peach as well.

Koke maybe as well? Though he's often found playing a bit wider for Atletico. Matuidi hasn't had a great season either I guess and Oliver Torres is still a little too raw for the very top level.

But yeah, not much going around these days.

Dani Parejo is a similar level to Ander (but also too similar to see us having both) so I'm sure he'll be one of those looked at by the top clubs needing a CM

I watched the full game. His close control and use of both feet is still v impressive. Has eyes in the back of his head for the forward pass even if they rarely came off yesterday. He waddles alot like a duck around the park reminds me of shaw with afew excess pounds.
Not dynamic any more in his movement with or without the ball.

He's a gamble as when I watch us I see a toothless Arsenal side and Gundogan is one of those signings that ingrains that style even more right now than nearly any other player of that type unless of course, he can return to his former self!!
