It's on kicker now, they are quoting Der Westen. Definitely on.

Worth the gamble when you consider we have Herrera as a fixture in the midfield.

------Rooney------
Depay-Mata-DiMaria
-Gundogan-Herrera-

I'd love to see that front 6 just battering bottom 13 teams at Old Trafford, and in tougher games, just drop one of the attacking midfielders in that trio for Blind or Carrick.

Oh lord have mercy

I've been turned over to the dark side, and its still only April. Muppets rejoice!

I'd say there is close to zero chance we'll see a line-up like that. Carrick or Blind will always play.

You reckon Dortmund would sell both of them to United though? I thought they worked on a bit of a policy of selling just one 'star' player a Summer?

That is what puzzled me about this initially... But with his back problems and klopp going now is a good time to get rid.. Esp for £15m+

I'm not super thrilled by this but if he does recover him and Ander would make a fantastic midfield duo screening Blind/Carrick.

An inform midfield 3 of Herrera, Carrick and Gundogan is scary, they've all brilliant work rates, passing range, creative and very good at defending.

Be nice to see him in England actually. One of those players I know is rated highly but I've seen little of.

If only Carrick was a few years younger eh?! That midfield for 5 odd years would have been

Just reading the bluemoon forum to see their opinion on this, and even they are gutted. I was expecting the whole he's no good speech, but they are not happy

Van Gaal played 4-2-3-1 at times with Bayern, Alkmaar and the Netherlands.

I'm not saying he'd do it away or against really dangerous teams, but Gundogan and Herrera are solid 2-way footballers and I think we could just blow away teams with them building attacks from deep against teams that we've pinned back.

Good point. I haven't watched much of Dortmund this season, has he been a key player for them?

I've seen nothing of him
I just think in todays world, 22m on a player who can do it, is a bargain. I know he only has one year left on his contract, but how low could Dortmund go before they'd rather keep him

Yep. If Gundogan is healthy that's a proper midfield for the Champions League right there.

I know its hard to compare, but is he in the wilshere mould? Or fabregas? Orrrr clone of carrick?

He's a good passer who's decent at everything. Classic offensively gifted number 8 that a big team wants paired with a more defensive mid. So, closer to Wilshere or Chelsea Cesc than Carrick, but neither is a perfect comparison.

Carrick, Ander and Di Maria wasn't balanced enough for van Gaal, switching Carrick out for Gundogan who doesn't shield the defense as much isn't suddenly going to be balanced. That line-up doesn't fit van Gaal's way of 4 creative players at all.

Haha, can't believe this has its own tag on the home page.

One thing that is refreshing to me is seeing United do their business early it seems compared to last season. Getting ahead of our rivals it seems - especially with the rumours united met Depay this week.

I'm glad we're getting business done so early, we'll get a whole pre-season with these new signings. Can't wait

It's probably been mentioned but can someone summarise his form and injury record since coming back.

Not mine but I find it amusing...

£20.5 million according to the Mail.

Thats a fair price for both parties tbh.

Signed him on FIFA 15 but he was kept of the side.... by Pogba Vidal and Pjanic....

Really hope this goes through!

Seems LVG isn't messing around, he wants his squad in place ready to go. Think we will see Depay before the season is over too according to reports.

I think that's a fair comparison. He's a bit more tenacious that Fabregas and he is not a proper play maker. I think he could be compared to Herrera, he doesn't make loads of assists or scores goals but he is very dynamic and close to a box to box midfielder.

Geez, this team will absolutely hammer most of the teams. It has speed, creativity, work rate, flair, passing, goals. Everything you want.
On paper sure, but who knows how well a team like that will come together chemistry-wise, and is Gundogan much recovered since his injury? Would be great if he could get back to top form, but we don't want another Falcao on our hands.
