How reliable is the source? Can this really be considered done?
Very reliable. Sebastian Wessling, one of the most reliable Dortmund journalists, wrote on Twitter that according to their information the deal is done for €30m. He's probably in the top 3 for Dortmund news.

Thanks.

Looks like it is on

Is he of turkish ethnicity....or am I mistaking him for Ozil?

Two years ago Vidal and Gündogan were my dream midfield signings. Broken knee and broken back had ruined that but apparently not. €30m is fair for his current level but if he gets back to his best then a complete steal.

Just get Schneiderlin as well and we would have one of the best midfields around.

I'd echo that. Those two and I'd be very very happy.

It makes me wonder if LvG is seeing something we're not. Then again he wanted Vermaelen...

Damn, I just assumed this was bollocks, but now I'm not so sure. Would absolutely love this signing. I couldn't give a flock if it's 20 or 30 mill.

I think that the high energy, high tempo of Dortmund exposes a lot more players fitness, than our style. Gundogan hasn't lost his technique or his passing range, he 'only' lost a lot of dynamism, that's something that you can regain with hard work but that's not something very crucial in our current set up.
His vision and his technique are what we should focus on, and he still has that at high level.

We also have to remember that he was out for 400 days, he completely lost his professional level conditioning, and you don't regain that easily, at least not when you have to play games every weeks.

As someone on a Dortmund forum said, he is an irreplaceable player when on form.

I love this kind of player like Modric/Verratti/Fabregas/Gundogan, every top club needs one of these playmakers, who is to say he can't get back to his best here?

No matter what, he is definitely worth the gamble and i hope we buy him.

I'd imagine managers look for traits that are invisible to fans - personality, self-discipline, work ethic in training, aptitude to learn/develop etc.

Get in! 22 million pounds is a lot in this case. But most top clubs, whether it's Real, Barca, PSG, City or United, they've all paid too much for most players over the last years. As a matter of fact, it has happened so often for so many players that it's simply today's market. Especially with the new sponsor contracts, 20 million is the new 12.5/15 million.

Brilliant player if he can remain fit, how long have people on here been asking about a true world class midfielder? Well with Ilkay we'd finally have him.

What he sees is that in normal circumstances (Gundogan pre injury) we would be fighting Madrid, Bayern, Barca and probably one or two of the oil clubs for his signature and likely lose out.

This is the only way, with question marks surrounding his fitness and his injury record, that we could get him and van Gaal and co have decided (given his age and him having had half a season withiut injuries under his belt) it is worth the risk.

Oh my god

He's only 24 isn't he? Absolute steal IMO. Or that's what it will be considered as, in just a year's time IMO.

The problem is, our midfield already lacks a lot of dynamism. The only dynamic midfielder we have is Herrera. The rest have the combined athleticism of a whale.

An indifference to testicles.

Seeing a lot of 'worth a punt at 22m'. Price shouldn't be an issue. We should just buy the players that we need, and I don't think Gundogan is what we need.

Can he play in midfield.....seriously speaking how is injury wise now?

Surely not?

Ideal signing a few summers ago.. We can get him back to that.

This. It'll take him some time to get in to form, but his age and talent combination is absolutely drool worthy.

I'm hoping that we've had a word with Dortmund's medical team for the full sp. No, i'm sure we have.

For 20m it's probably worth the risk. I know i mentioned Vermaelen, but at least he's fit enough to actually get on the field. It's a start.

I think that he will regain his dynamism, for a martial artist it can take 6 months of dedicated work to be at the top physically, footballers don't go as far as martial artist, so I suppose that it can take 18 to 24 months to be very good. I think that it's the lack of training who shot his physic more than the back problem.

People keep saying "fitness problems", "chronic injuries" etc, there's no history of injury problems. He had something pressing on his spine (Forum Doctor here) that meant he couldn't even exercise (hence the tubby belly), had surgery to fix it, now is back to his best (in terms of fitness). If we get him, it'll be an amazing signing.

Fantastic news, was quite disappointed when the news around him coming to us went quiet these past few weeks. Sounds like a done dealio as well.

£20m is hardly anything for a player of his ability and if he doesn't get back to old Gundogan standards then he will still be a quality back up. Plus if he is a total flop your not going to be making too much of a loss...£5-£10m. I'm sure he will be quality though.

Our first German player I think.

Can't help but feel we're looking at the wrong midfielder from the Bundesliga. Hopefully he returns to his form prior to his injury and proves me wrong.

Am sure they would be totally honest about his injury status.

Well said. Great as well that we look to be getting it done early.
Means he has a whole summer with the club to get his diet, training regime and pre season spot on.

That's great deal IMO (although was expecting slighly cheaper) if true. If he reaches the height os 2012-2013 season we would have one of the best midfielders in the world (in talent, I think that only Thiago is better from midfielders of his generation). If not and he stays on the level of this season (or a bit better) then he'll be a good backup/cover/competition for Herrera.

The third option is for him to be the new Hargreaves but I won't to think about it right now.

2 years ago, he and Thiago would have been Nr.1 (and Nr.2) transfers on my wishlist. Needless to say, I am still very excited if this goes through.

Nah lads I'm done

I think we will try to get him too. No way we will let him go to Manchester City without bidding for him and besides we probably need more than 1 midfielder.

There's no chance we're signing Gundogan AND Pogba.
