Picture of Gundogan from just over a week ago

If the likes of Shaw are declared fat than Ilkay must be bordering on obesity.

If the price is around 15mil as some are saying then it's definitely a risk worth taking. I do hope we sign another more physical midfielder though as well, Gundogan is definitely not someone we should be relying upon next season.

Does this mean LVG has a different center back lined up? It seems unlikely that we'd get both Hummels and Gundogan from Dortmund.

Our ability to sign/attempt to sign players with big question marks over their fitness must be unparalleled. It almost seems like a requisite to any of our potential signings. Has he sustained a career threatening injury over the past year or so? Yes? Fantastic! Where do we sign?

I really really really hope this isn't our only midfield signing this Summer.

That would be a brilliant deal for Dortmund. It's not certain that he'll ever reach the heights of his past form and he's yet to fully prove his fitness. He also has only one year left on his contract. 30 million would be way too much for him, but hey, it's not my money.

If he even got close to what he was then thirty million would be an absolute steal though.

Well worth the gamble.

Not really that unlikely, I'd say we have a good enough relationship with Dortmund. We had no issue signing Kagawa and even sold him back there for cheap.

Also doubt Dortmund care who they're selling to once they get their price and it's not Bayern.

Given his injury, his form since his return and the fact that he has just one year left on his contract €30m seems like a ridiculous fee.

Hows he actually been since his comeback? There seems to be a lot of conflicting reports.

I don't think Dortmund really care too much who they sell to as long as it is a foreign club.

He had a couple of good/decent performances at the beginning of the year, but that faded when Sahin got injured. Other than that it has been some decent moments here and there but generally rather weak.

Its 30 million EURO apparently. Thats just under £22mil by todays conversion.

We also have a good relationship with them, doesn't hurt.

A move with incredible potential (if true). Pre-injury Gundogan was one of the best players around and he's still quite young.

22M for a player that just came back from a long injury and it's in last year of his contract?

It must suck to be a Dortmund fan right now. Lost Klopp and looking like they are going to lose a lot of key players in the summer.

That's true. Can't help but get excited at the thought of an in-form Gundogan running Manchester United's midfield.

Let's hope this information is true. No one else seems to be reporting it, which is slightly concerning.

£20M is a fair price for him IMO. Thing is, it's not even his potential he could reach that people refer to, it's the fact he's played a couple of seasons already at such a high level that excites me.

He was out of this world from 2011-2013

He's worth the risk to us for £22 million. No doubt.

He's definitely worth a punt, although 22 mil is overpriced considering the circumstances. I just hope we don't put all our eggs in one basket. Gundogan + 1 (Schneiderlin) would be fantastic.

If this was 2012 I'd be jizzing my pants right now, could go either way now however, still think it's worth a gamble. Best case is he runs our midfield, worst case is Hargreaves mk II.

People are getting too hung up about the prices. 20m or 30m, doesn't really matter all that much. The only important question with him is, how fit he is and how has his injury impacted his form?

If he's not fit enough then even 10m is too much.

Reactions of some Dortmund fans in their German forum...

If this is true with the 30 million I'm satisfied. Had a very good deal in my opinion.

When you see how he is currently in the form is a good penny to bring order to spare.

Great, then please still 45 for Mats and for doing so.

He would be the first German player to ever play for the first team, right?

The whole point of spending all this money was supposed to be the reduction of risk. We seem to be actively seeking it out.

I never understood the hype around this guy, I don't rate him that highly. I dunno about these rumors, I expect us to sign a more physical midfielder.

How is he doing after he came back from injury?

are debating Gundogan's class pre-injury?

 A fine example of someone who hasn't watch a player and just rattling off what they've read from other people who haven't watched the player.

Gundogan has been great this year.

How reliable is the source? Can this really be considered done?

Two years ago Vidal and Gündogan were my dream midfield signings. Broken knee and broken back had ruined that but apparently not. €30m is fair for his current level but if he gets back to his best then a complete steal.

Just get Schneiderlin as well and we would have one of the best midfields around.
