I never understood the hype around this guy, I don't rate him that highly. I dunno about these rumors, I expect us to sign a more physical midfielder.

How is he doing after he came back from injury?

are debating Gundogan's class pre-injury?

To quote myself from the twitter thread...

If its Gundogan + 1 other (a more defensive minded midfielder) then I'll be very happy.

Its its just Gundogon then I'll be a bit worried as that won't solve the defensive 'balance' and he'll effectively just be taking Herrera's position.

It's fine, he'll go into the mix competing with Fellaini and Herrera. Carrick and Blind the holding midfield options.

LVG has already talked about the lack of defensive balance in midfield, Gundogan wouldn't solve that. If anything he'd make it more lopsided.

Gundogan is better defensively than Fellaini so I'm not sure I agree. Carrick and Blind can manage at #6 for another season. We're an injury to Herrera or Fellaini away from Rooney in midfield and few players fit the bill better than a fit Gundogan. He's a balanced midfielder.

I think we'd be a lot more balanced with Blind in defensive midfield now then before. Herrera is a lot more disciplined positionally and that alone makes a huge difference, so a midfield of Herrera-Carrick/Blind-Gundogan would be perfectly fine I think. Lets hope Gundogan can get back to his best, would be a great bit of transfer business if so.

The midfielder was the one position who there wasn't really any hints who we would really go for the most, most names just barely mentioned but now I have a feeling with all these stories lately that we'll get Gundogan, especially with Klopp gone at the end of the season.

Gundogan, Hummels, Depay and Clyne all probable to come in one summer? Probably early on too
Hope we get them done. Not often that you see a club get all of their main targets so I wouldn't be surprised to see one of these fall through, but we can hope.

30m EUR imo is too much for him, having in mind the length of his contract, being not the same after the injury and still overweight.

Big money on a crock. What could go wrong?

That would be a brilliant deal for Dortmund. It's not certain that he'll ever reach the heights of his past form and he's yet to fully prove his fitness. He also has only one year left on his contract. 30 million would be way too much for him, but hey, it's not my money.

I've seen next to nothing of him since returning from his injury but beforehand this deal would've had my balls tingling.

Do people feel Gundogan would be a good signing? Where would he play?

Herrera will finally be able to play his best role as an attacking #8, while Gundogan will take Herrera's current role as a defensive #8. Fellaini will be a great threat coming from the bench or as a special weapon in certain games.

With the euro as it is that's about £20m, hardly massive amounts for a player of his calibre (fitness dependent)

Dortmund fans on Twitter seem to think it's a done deal, so whoevers reporting it must have a good record with them.

If himself and Hummels sign on the same day, will I be the only person who struggles to tell them apart?

Given his injury, his form since his return and the fact that he has just one year left on his contract €30m seems like a ridiculous fee.

This guy was my absolute wet dream of a signing 2 years ago. If he recaptures that form, a MF 3 of Carrick or Blind with Herrera and Gundogan is unbelievably good.

Well, one is 180 cm and the other 192 cm so there's that at least

In 2013 I would have loved to have this lad in our team he was a delight to watch. I hate how injuries ruin players but from the very little I have seen from him lately he's nowhere near as brilliant as he was it would be a shocker if joins us. Maybe van Gaal thinks he can get Gundogan back to how he used to play pre injury.

They look nothing alike

I don't know. They both seem to be bringing a bit of goth to the preppy Spanish pre-teen thing we seem to have going on this year.
I can imagine the two of them, along with Fellaini and Rojo setting up a death metal band in a garage out the back of Carrington!

The thing is that I think that Gundogan today, at his current level worth 15m-20m, at his best he was a +50m player, so even if isn't as good as he was, he is still valuable.
