İlkay Gündoğan Transfer Thread

Gundogan apparently is not willing to talk about a new deal, not BVB.

I wouldn't be surprised one bit if that's because he's already had his head turned by someone else. I'd be shocked if that someone was us.

Yep, this is the slight thing that makes me think a hell of a lot of our fans know nothing about football.

The most worrying fans are the ones who just casually say pay what it costs, even though you I don't know..have to make sure you don't bankrupt yourself!!

I read today that he hasn't played since August.
Is that true? As I've not seen anyone write that on here, and it seems a slightly massive factor!!

It's been talked about a lot, particularly as part of the timing discussion. Stay and recover with Dortmund who he knows and hope to get back in time for the World Cup or risk a new club, new league etc at such a critical time for him.

He is not leaving in the winter. This is neither in his nor the club´s interest.

Hang on. He's suffering back problems, hasn't played since August, contract running out and people think he's worth 70 mil?

I was just about to bring that point up. Well, not the 70mil bit anyway.

It's highly unlikely that we would invest a large sum into a player who has a history of back problems. The trouble with back problems is that even if the back pain itself goes away, it's common for it to aggravate other injuries, especially groin and hamstrings.

With United's constant injury woes, you'd think we'd be wary of investing in a player who could spend large portions of the season in the injury room.

"I am not top fit just yet and I'm not completely pain free at the moment. I still have pain in my hip, calf and shin.
Sod that.

We've been round this particular circle a few times in this thread now.

It's unlikely anything will happen this month. However, if you're trying to buy a player off the top shelf you need to start courting them early.

My guess, if those newspaper reports are anything other than pure invention is that we're making an official approach to Dortmund now, because we're politely saying that we'd like to start tapping up their player, without pissing them off.

Until he's been given the all clear I don't want us to do any business.

The Mirror article was written by that David McDonnell who was posting the leaked lineups right? Same mole, perhaps.

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, who has been linked with Manchester United, says he will soon make a decision about his future.
Arsenal were linked with Gundogan last summer, while last month it was reported that United boss David Moyes was showing interest in the 23-year-old midfielder.
Recent reports in the British press have claimed the two Premier League rivals are preparing to make moves for the Germany international during this month's transfer window, and Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has already admitted that the player could be on the move.
Real Madrid are also keen on signing Gundogan, who has insisted that he has yet to make a final decision about his future.
"I have not made a final decision yet. BVB are the first team I am talking to," he was quoted as saying by Bild.
"I will soon make a well-thought decision. But I am keeping my options open at this point.
"Borussia Dortmund have not set me an ultimatum. I am just trying to get healthy again and get back to my best form. That's the main priority for BVB and for myself."
Gundogan has made just one league appearance so far this season due to a back injury.

Gundogan "yet everything is open"
Does he or he does not?
The decision in poker to Dortmund star Ilkay Gundogan (23) is fast approaching!
BVB wants to extend the contract of the international's (2015) early, has already presented him an offer. But Real Madrid and Manchester United have also done that. Both clubs want Gundogan get in the summer. In an interview 30 million are peeling. It is also a swap deal with Real striker Karim Benzema (26).
Now speaks Gundogan in the SPORT BILD about his future, reveals: "I will soon make a decision that will be well considered." He continued: "It's still really open."
The translation is brutal but it looks like we've spoke to the player but not put in an official bid yet.

I suppose it's a step in the right direction though.

I'm not sure I can take any more of this sort of bullshit, it's like the summer all over again. We've looked at this player, we've thought about that player, we've spoken to this one...

What the feck is wrong with just buying someboy FFS!??!

I personally doubt Benzema would wish to move to Dortmund.

The logic behind that is bizarre. In fact there is no logic at all.

Here you have a player that is classed as one of the best midfielders in Europe and was central to Dortmund's success over the previous 2 seasons. At 23 years of age, he can only get better and is coverted by Real Madrid and Manchester United and surely a host of others should a bid be accepted.

Now despite all this, the media are claiming that they are unwilling to offer him a new deal despite him having just a year left come the summer and also that they will accept what is deemed by everybody to be a low fee for him.

If true (it surely isn't) then they are showing a complete lack of business sense and complete lack of footballing sense. It's obviously nonsense.

I meant Gundogans unwillingness to discuss a nee deal there.

I hope he says that he'll announce his new club on twitter in the future. Football is far more exciting when business is done that way.

We've had a pretty shit record of that haven't we? Couldn't take that.

I'd try to do a deal now, based on injury recovery, to prevent him going to Madrid. Test his and Dortmund's resolve. Stick in a big bid.

Now, I'm off back to Fraggle Rock as the Dozers are creating Union rumblings...

Indeed. Never buy a crock.

According to his injury record, Gündogan seems to be surprsingly fit for being a CM. His current injury is his first long-term injury of his entire professional career. Before this season, he's on average been out for about 1 month per season. That's nothing considering our injury record in United:p

What Sean means is that there have been rumours tonight that Barcelona are strongly interested and he has talked to them, as well as rumours Xavi has agreed to go to the MLS. As opposed to cleverly and totally randomly stating that he has a feeling for some reason that he'll end up at Barca of course :D

There are far better fits for him and far more lucrative offers and at the moment, more success elsewhere.

I don't know what is worse, the lack of quality CM recruitment or the sledgehammer negativity on the Caf every time we are linked with a top player. We might as well give up at this rate according to most as all players we are linked with seem to be either not good enough or too good for the likes of little old Man Utd.

I doubt Benzema would want to go to Dortmund and if Gundogan is more about football than he is about acting like a 10 yerar old spaz "coz Ral Madrid is like so cool!" then he will see he can come here, we're a pretty huge club for the record, and be a boss, or he can go to Madrid and battle the bench with 4 other quality CM's.

I think he'd easily be Madrid best midfielder and not battle the bench like you said.

What I meant was that he'd have competition for the 2 spots in their midfield and the competition is not made up of poor CM's, where as here he just has to show up to be our main starter in midfield.

Yes but Madrid is also arguably a bigger club then we are globally, can offer more money, and a better claim for trophies along with playing alongside players like Ronaldo. We're a great club as well and all that but the only reason he'd have to join United right now are if Sahin advises him against Madrid or if he really loves the premier league and is a United fan. We lose out to madrid in just about anything else now that Sir Alex is gone.

I think we can match the money is we feel he is the right player, it's reached that point. I concede the allure they have but I think the proposition of being the main man in our CM rebuild, and being part of a new generation of Manchester United may well hold some strong appeal as well, he'd be treat as a diamond here where in Madrid he's be 1 of 5 and not greeted with the same response we'd greet him with IMO.

I know what you mean and yes there are attracting reasons as to why he could choose Man Utd over Real Madrid. He could also see the state of the current staff, the current players playing and sort of be put off by joining Man Utd when Real Madrid are a possibility. It's all conjectures I know.

All true, I'm just trying to look at it positively mate as the overbearing negativity and constant belief that we should accept average players as the best Manchester United can do, is getting on my nerves.
