Ángel Di María | Transferred to PSG

PSG are paying practically the same price in Euros this summer as we paid last Summer. We paid about €73m for him and they're paying around €65m (which works out at around £5m loss, which given that he's a year older is great business).

We can't complain about losing out on around £10m because of the weakness of the Euro after potentially benefitting from it to the tune of around £20m (Depay, Schweinsteiger, Darmian & possibly Pedro).

We are still be losing money while adm, real and psg are getting what they wanted in the first place

I really can't understand why people are saying he is a coward, it's as if they know him personally and all that went on this year.

The guy might just hate it in Manchester or his family might, for a number of reasons, and if you were in his position what possible reason would make you want to stay?

Weird.

Not weird at all.

It's the manner in which he's done it....not that he WANTS to do it.
Not turning up for his club on pre season tour hiding away, go AWOL etc
Why not just face the music?

Of course he's a coward.

Yes. If he came out with a speech to the fans, saying how he has tried to adapt but does not enjoy playing in the country, he would be fine. We would of course be disappointed but most would be understanding.

Look at Mata when he moved to us - that really is the model move. Left on great terms despite leaving for his team's huge rivals.

I understand what you are saying.

But how often do you see players come out and announce that they are having a bad time at a club?

There are all sorts of reasons why that doesn't happen, it would drive his price down further for a start which I am sure United wouldn't want.

Then there would be the follow up questions and speculation, just not practical really.

In terms of not turning up at pre-season, again we don't know why, it's all conjecture.

Make him stay for a couple more weeks and start the CL qualifier at OT as a farewell to the club and fans he's shown no respect for.

Pretty early last season it looked like he stopped trying, he was avoiding heavy tackles. I think its fair for fans to express disappointment with him.

From a purely football perspective Di Maria leaving is the best outcome for all parties. There really weren't many signs he would turn things around in that wide role.

Financially (and for United's reputation as transfer market numpties) it is disastrous. Spending £60m on a player who doesn't fit the manager's preferred system is close to negligent.

Because I find it incredibly hard to believe we couldn't just pick up a phone and ask di Maria where he was.

For many on here, finding out his location seems to be a harder task than the journey to Mordor.
Yet LVG says he is AWOL. So you would believe some journo who claims that LVG is lying of LVG, seeing that the manager has been upfront about everything so far.

As per Mitten
Di Maria cut an unhappy and unsettled figure in his final three months in Manchester, with teammates under the impression he did not want to be at the club. He made limited efforts to learn English.

"He's taking English classes, and while at least one member of United's staff had a close shave when Di Maria's car approached them on the wrong side of the road, he's been the club's best player this season and is setting about justifying his 59.7 million-pound British transfer-record fee" -Andy Mitten

We are losing a small amount of money which has already been offset by the strength of the pound in other transfers. Every signing is a risk and this one didn't work out, but we still recouped the majority of the fee.

No one should be bemoaning the club in this scenario.

other than he never fit into the side - think about how shit we were with him and falcao in the side. dysfunctional springs to mind. he was shit v lower division teams and crap since the start of the fall right through season's end. not a bad player just the wrong player. so i'd wonder what senior management saw other than a big name - did LvG really think it'd work out?

Well LVG called him one of the best wingers in the world. Clearly he thought he had the talent to adapt to a possession based system. However he had to change to quite a lot in one go - a completely different league, a completely different system, as well as moving his family etc. Sometimes these things just don't work out unfortunately.

I don't blame management at all for this these things happening. Lets not forget LVG was buying at a time when he had not even played a league game in England. Even he has been surprised by aspects of it so you can't blame him for not being expert on who will and won't work within a few weeks of taking up the role.

These things happen, this place was overjoyed about signing Di Maria as nobody believed for a second it would go this way. Same as when we signed Veron even Fergie who knew more than most never saw that coming. These things happen and sometimes the only way to find out is to give it a try.

I don't see how we are losing money when the fee is £45m.

1)it has already been established that we overpaid
2)even if we didn't, 13 assists and 4 goals with average performances and a World class September should cost just about £10-15m.
3)Didn't the last deal have add-ons that Haven't been activated?
4)those wages.

I admire your optimism mate but of course we're losing money! £15m for a decent September and 13 assists... Lol no. The addons part may be true but I wouldn't expect it to be too much.

Has this affected your personal bank account? If so, that's outrageous.

Might as well spunk £400m on Ronaldo in that case then.

I always find this 'it's not your money' argument ridiculous. People said that last year to me when I complained about the Di Maria fee and they've all got egg on their face. We've got to be more astute in our signings. We're not going to stay loaded forever if we keep overspending.

I'd imagine the likes of Woodward and the club's qualified accountants have a pretty good grip on the club's finances to where its not necessary for us to play virtual banker with money that isn't ours. Just let them do their thing and we can evaluate the performances of those they buy.

Fair enough but I was addressing the fact we weren't losing money in selling Di Maria when we clearly are. Not that I mind, the twat can leave for £10m for all I care.

So, you essentially rightly predicted that Di Maria would fail at the club? I don't understand why super smart folk like you waste your time and intellect on the caf.

I was waiting for someone to reply like this. Someone else called out people for abusing him when he correctly predicted something a few weeks ago and all he got was snarky replies like this.

And where have you got the bolded part from? Before you reply, please explain this part. Do take your time.

I'm super smart for predicting we were overpaying? No, I just think that people should stop jumping down people's throat like its become commonplace on here. And when you get called out for it, you should be able to take it if you can dish it.

The trouble is that his heart was never set to Manchester. He just came here to get extra dosh which Real weren't willing to give him and showed the middle finger to the club once he could leave it. We should recognise a mercenary when we see him especially when he's involved on a 60m investment

I agree with you mate, it's a nightmare no-one believed you doubted Di Maria. Just to help you out I've got your earliest posts about Di Maria on the forum.

Januzaj is the reserves' Di Maria. He's everywhere. So far ahead of the other players too.

Have my babies Di Maria

Di Maria is obviously top quality!

This is about fave players at United
All time:
  • Beckham
  • Solskjaer
  • Van Nistelrooy
  • Rooney
  • Ronaldo
  • Scholes
  • Giggs
Current:
  • De Gea
  • Jones
  • Herrera
  • Mata
  • Van Persie
  • Falcao
  • Blind
  • Di Maria

Hmm it's a strange one. I was expecting to feel hurt a lot more than I did but strangely it's not gone that way. Maybe it's because I accepted it way back in May when we realised what Moyes had led us to. Maybe my heart couldn't take anymore after last seasons' exploits. Or maybe I'm just too excited with what's to come with our new squad including Falcao and Di Maria to care enough about it.

Well done for realising Di Maria was overpriced earlier on. Couldn't find any posts about that.

Probably the worst search ever. Expecting smileys galore, weren't you? Me praising him during his first few games doesn't mean I don't think he was overpriced.

Have another look. I'm sure you'll find it. Check the actual Di Maria transfer thread instead of the September match day forums. You were probably one of the muppets that shut me down. Weren't you also crying over Welbeck around that time too?

If we're going to dig up quotes from last summer, I'll be glad to do it but the reaction will probably be like the one from MDFC.

Hang on a minute.

Falcao, scored 4 goals in what amounts to about half a season.
He took huge wages and was down-right terrible. Abysmal. Some have said that he was the worst striker at MUFC in many years.
A wage thief if I ever saw one.
He got a standing ovation.

Di Maria put in decent performances (not great, but decent), making many assists and scored goals. And you are complaining about Di Maria?

I sense that if Di Maria was genuinely poor (like Falcao), that fans would be wishing him good luck at PSG, but because they know that Di Maria is one of the best, they are getting bitter.

I don't want to call you an idiot for not knowing the difference here, but you are making it very hard for me.
