If it's a choice between Pedro and last season's Di Maria, it's Pedro every single time. I don't even rate Pedro that highly but at least Pedro will give it his all.

I agree with this.
Last year our strike force was pathetic, so we have got rid of RVP and Falcao, but we have not bought any replacements (well, maybe Depay will be our new striker, but he is untested).
I'd actually say that currently, our attack is weaker than last year and when out scoring the opposition is the aim of the game, it is worrying that we seem to be putting our eggs in the Rooney and Pedro basket.

It's shocking. You covered the attack, but central defense isn't any better - we haven't bought a quality central defender, which we have needed since 2 summers back, and are likely to lose De Gea, our most important player last season. The managers seems blind to the deficiencies in our defense.

Sad end to what was one of our more exciting signings in a while. Gutted that it didn't work out. Our team had been crying for a player of his ilk for a while.

Hope we have quality replacement lined up (better than a Barca bench warmer), or the wide areas will resemble the strike department.
Genuinely every player in world football bar Ronaldo would warm that Barca bench. We'll struggle to find anyone better than Pedro available in these last few weeks of the window.

I'm not a huge fan of Pedro but I don't see anyone better available right now. We should have probably insisted on Lucas in a swap deal but then again he's someone who's already rejected us once..

Still surprised this is happening. So odd.

He was a bench warmer before Suarez and Neymar arrived.

You guys are probably right. Pedro is a decent player and could do decently for us, but don't think he is someone who is going to take us to the never level. Will be another filler while we wait for the "marquee" player.

So who will get the number 7 jersey ?
Is there anyone in the current team that should get it or will we have to wait for our next star signing ?
Memphis most likely or maybe Pedro if he's coming. Schweinsteiger could have gotten it too but by the look of things he went for the number 31 shirt.

I think it'll be Memphis 7 and Pedro 9.

Well the onus is now on Memphis to hit the ground running.

It was all great when this bell end signed, but it's amazing how over the course of 11 months you can see a player in a totally different light. That Madrid CL winner was who we wanted but he never really arrived, and it appears we've been well and truly Mendesed again.

Pedro was a bench warmer before Neymar and Suarez? What the feck?

He was a mainstay in that Guardiola team.

Sad to see him go, he is a world class player when he is in form and we saw glimpses of that during last fall. He is one of a few players in our squad that can beat his man and we will miss that.

But it is obvious why we are selling him and he does not seem to want to stay and fight for his place. If we get Pedro for 20-25m then I would say that we have done good business.

Loved to have seen him hit top form here but it's obviously not to be.

Seems he doesn't have enough bravery or character to play for Manchester United, on or off the pitch, so he is best off elsewhere.

The pessimists are going to lap up whatever excuses he comes up with in the next few weeks.

Fact of the matter is that he couldn't deal with the pressure of being a star man at the club, the pressure of the transfer fee nor the physicality of the league. He also couldn't (be bothered to) adapt himself to the tactics of our manager and rather than knuckling down like Herrera and overcoming the adversity he's limped out of the club in the most cowardly fashion I've ever seen at United.

Absolutely pathetic creature, good riddance.

Sad to see him go, because he is clearly world class when he is on his game as he showed in the beginning of last season. But he clearly doesn't want to be at Manchester nor is he willing to put any work at all into adapting better to the team or to England. There is no point in keeping a player who doesn't want to stay. However he could've handled all of this much much better DDG is a great example and because of this and the way he has been acting out I really hope he fails in PSG, but he probably won't since he will be going to the top team on an inferior league feeding Cavani and Ibrahimovic should be easy...

Most disliked player as far as I’m concerned. I usually don’t hold a grudge against our former players but he definitely is flop of the season, considering how shit he was for us, and how pathetic was his behavior. That’s the image I have in my head when I think of him in United shirt:

I like the idea of Pedro, so I hope we deal with both of them quickly.

Depay uses the number 7 on his twitter and pictures.

I'm glad he's gone. Never felt right about his signing. Felt like we got him for the sake of getting a big name, and he came to us not out of any true desire to play for us or to do well at United. I could be very wrong and unfair but there it is.

We shouldn't be accepting a penny less than we paid for him, assuming it's him that wants to leave. Especially given the fact we're dealing with a sugar daddy club.

He'd be tied to a contract for the best years of his career and either adapt or rot.

Agree with everything. Your point on Herrera summed it up nicely. I can't help but think Di Maria had a sense of entitlement about him and din't have the desire to fight for his place back after Ashley Young usurped him.

Considering what we saw of him in his first 12 months, and his attitude which shows he clearly isn't willing to put the effort in to succeed, isn't the latter much more likely? Therefore taking a 10m hit and recouping a very large fee is great business surely? Especially if replaced with a more suitable player?

We seem to very poor in the transfer market, constantly making losses on players and clubs now know we're prepared to accept this, which sets a very bad president in the market and this move, which by all accounts is a request from a player who's been with us for 12 months, typifies our current policy.

He started so well... I'm still sad it didn't work out but he was awful for the majority of the season. Not just mediocre but downright awful. Even with all the assists.

Now I'm not upset about him leaving, I'm upset and angry how the club has handled this situation financially. Did we really just purchase him for £59m and then sell him for £44m less than a year after... PSG are a money club, we shouldn't have bent over for a fee that low

He was until the end of 10/11. After that he wasn't a bench warmer but wasn't a mainstay either, he was basically competing for 1 available place and often missed out.

Why not? Consider it this way: he played his part, got us some goals so we didn’t really waste that money. He was also pretty bad so no way he’s worth 60m now. I think it’s fair price.

Also, once you force a player to stay the rest will think twice about coming here. If he didn’t adapt, what is much more likely, we would’ve lost a lot more money on his wages, but also his value would’ve dropped drastically. 15m drop isn’t that bad all things considered. I definitely wouldn’t pay that much for him if he had such a bad season.

It's just an unfortunate situation, it's not really down to us being bad in the transfer market. Not this time, anyway. He came off the back of his best season ever, scoring and assisting for fun, had the game of his life in the champions league final and his stock had never been higher. Fast forward 12 months, he's looked out of his depth, struggled with form and injuries, not adapted to English life, been burgled and gone on strike. I don't see how we could possibly not make a loss. I also don't see how we can blame Van Gaal or Woodward. We wanted a world class player, Woodward went and got him. It isn't the fault of either that he proceeded to be a flop.
