Yet LVG said he does not know why he did not travel. Why would he say so if he did know?

Could it be he was asked the question too soon after he got word Di Maria didn't make the flight ? As in, he was yet to be filled in on what happened.

Out of anger? Like I said, there were suggestions that di Maria didn't board because Rojo couldn't, and he didn't want to leave his friend behind. Maybe that annoyed LvG so he decided to make di Maria look like an absolute idiot by stating he didn't know?

Ducker's editorializing twitter reaction was a bit strange after finding out Di Maria didn't make the flight.

Well if he stayed behind because he cannot leave Rojo alone in Manchester then he's an absolute idiot to be fair.

Could be tbh but has he not given an interview after that? I am surprised that no questions were asked on it unless the club specifically mentioned that this topic is off-limits.

Yeah that's my point. It's stupidity on his behalf but he's not disrespecting the club, is he? It might be unprofessional, but hardly disrespectful.

Come on. You are just playing the devil's advocate here. I doubt LVG would even do something like that.

£46m for ADM is a great fee for us. I imagine that'll be £46+add ons too, so by the end of it, we won't be far off getting back what we spent.

It's a good fee. But these lot paid 50 million for David Luiz. So there is potential for more fleecing.

I can't believe some people actually want Di Maria to stay at this point. What's he done in the past year?

  • He started brilliantly but quickly faded and became less and less of an impact on any game. Eventually becoming a regular on the bench because he wasn't performing to the standards of any team, let alone Manchester United despite being on massive wages.
  • He never showed any evidence he is worth what we paid for him or what PSG are rumoured to be paying for him bar one excellent season for Madrid.
  • Just from judging his performances in the second half of the season alone, you could tell he was deeply unhappy (for whatever reason) and had no intention of knuckling down and working hard (like Young did for example after experiment Moyes) and regaining his place in the team.
  • Hasn't bothered to learn English or integrate with the team.
  • Flirted with PSG for the best part of 6 months.
  • Refused/coincidentally missed a flight to join the tour in America and gone AWOL.
If this was any other player, for example, Young or Valencia, people would be calling for their heads and they were far more dedicated, consistent and better than Di Maria was all last season. He is a luxury players we can't afford, especially if he only wants to play 10 to 15 games a season. I'd much rather have say, a *less talented* Pedro in our squad who will perform all season than someone who doesn't have the right mentality.

I guarantee he will pull similar stunts over in Paris once he's there.

Well no, I'd not call that disrespectful, just plain idiotic.

Tbh Valencia still hasnt learned English.

Yeah it's PSG we're talking about here but Chelsea probably approached them and pretended that Luiz did well for them, then there was Thiago Silva babbling about how Luiz is his mate and he needs him next to him. Luiz transfer was one of the most odd deals in football history and should not be used as a benchmark. They paid reasonable money for Thiago Silva and Zlatan.

We should be adding world class players not getting rid of them no matter the fee.

Honest question.

In his current form, forced to stay at United because he falls under the criteria of 'World Class Player' even though he is obviously deeply unhappy, is he still a world class player?

Or does this become a hostage situation?

Di Maria was world class when he played for Madrid, for us he's been nothing but average since he decided he wanted to leave. Ashley Young kept him out of the team, that's how good he is.

1) Most creative player.
2) Most assists.
3) One of four players (?) to have double assists.
4) Best or second best assists to minute ratio.
5) First season in EPL, one of the toughest leagues around.
6) Family have issues settling.
7) Did he personally tell you he doesn't know English? How did you understand?
8) Hardly flirted with PSG.
9) Young and Valencia have been shit for long periods, yet are still here. Young, we bought for £18m and he's hardly been worth that.
10) As with the flight, we don't know why he missed it. All based on speculation. He could have passed away, for all we know.

Such commitment has characterised Valencia since, aged 10, he played his first organised game. At 16 football's lure saw him defy his father by leaving home and taking an eight hour bus journey to Quito to join El Nacional, a club with such a strong army association that players occupied barracks and partook in regular military parades. So great was his determination that when a coach advised increased pasta consumption, Valencia, confusing the word with that meaning toothpaste, dutifully gobbled tubes of Colgate.

You've been extremely kind here. As the manager and leader of a squad you can't have Di Maria around if he's going to act the way he has done for the best part of 6 months. LvG has already made an example a few players (RvP and Falcao) Di Maria will be the next.

I'm not saying he hasn't got what it takes to succeed at United or he doesn't have the potential to be world class on his day, the fact of the matter is he just doesn't want it.

If he's acting like a spoilt child, why is he still here? Why did he start against Hull? And, finally, why did LvG say he wants him to stay?

Once again, why is it so hard for people to comprehend that his shitness at the end of last season was down to bad form and not a bad attitude? I mean, every player suffers from bad form, and it's rarely down to the attitude of that individual.

1) Based on his time in Madrid.

2,3,4) That's actually one point not three. What does that even mean? Double digit assists? I don't even think he had that and if he had then 80% of them were in his first 5-6 games for us when he was still good.

5) And he got progressively worse which suggests that it's not adjustment he has issues with.

6) Not our problem.

7) It's pretty evident.

8) Except you don't know that.

9) Two squad players, irrelevant.

10) See point 8, you had no trouble speculating there to make him look good.
