Ángel Di María | Transferred to PSG

The only problem with that is the club don't really want to keep ADM around... whereas we're happy to keep DDG around if the deal falls through (as is looking likely).
LVG said he hopes he stays because we need his speed and creativity.

Agree completely

Sounds like we do. See LVG's most recent interview, he states that he wants to keep ADM.

From the transcript on the forum, he didn't even mention ADM's name once.

There you go again, calling the player that got the most assists for us last year shite. Weird, he had some issues but he wasn't shite.

Compared to what he should have been, he was garbage. Yeah he started well (very well) but for 2/3rds of the season he was way below par. Frankly, his crap performances were much crapper then his good performances were good.

For most of the season he was, his last goal was at the beginning of January and half his assists were in the first 5 games. In any event, forgetting stats most of us could see he was poor in the second half of the season, it's not a coincidence Young kept him out of the team. Rooney was our top scorer, but wasn't close to our best player last year.

I think it's wise to have a neutral position until we know more what's going on, so far it's only speculation.

For the record I want AdM to stay but at the same time maybe it's better the club move on, even if we make a financial loss.

Separate interview with the BBC:

Louis van Gaal says Cristiano Ronaldo is the type of player Manchester United need to compete with their rivals.

While the Dutchman would not be drawn on whether he thinks the Real Madrid star might return to United, he knows the Portuguese is regarded by United fans as the holy grail signing.

"I can imagine that. He is a fantastic player, I like him," he said.

When asked if he needed that kind of player to complete his squad, he said: "Of course."

He added: "I can give examples of champions: Bayern Munich, Ribery and Robben; Chelsea, Hazard and Willian; Real Madrid, Ronaldo and Bale; Barca, Neymar and Messi.

"Manchester United fans want us to compete with these teams."

Van Gaal added: "We still need more speed in front and also more creativity. That is why I hope Di Maria shall stay. But we don't know that.

"Ashley Young and Juan Mata had fantastic seasons, with assists and goals but to win the Champions League you need speed also. That is why I think, maybe, we still have to buy a player with speed and creativity."

Considering the fee and his reputation, he has be shite......relatively.

"I think we still need more speed in front and also more creativity and that is why I want (Angel) Di Maria to stay, but, we don't know that so we will have to see,” he said.

By LVG comments, I assume therefore that it is completely Di Maria that wants to go rather than us wanting to sell. Which seems odd the club cant convince him to stay as its only been a yr. Real shame if he does go, and for such a lesser fee.

Need a decent replacement, not sure who that would be. Pedro I do like, but pace wise not sure he's the one maybe that is Depay.

how can you say that when we paid near £60 mil for him and we don't want him to go

Opinions eh

We paid £52m and in € terms we will not even make a loss, that's after terrible season.

It's bad on absolutely all fronts.

Firstly you're showing that you as a club don't respect players wish to leave. Of course he might have acted like a massive cnut and he hasn't really shown his commitment but I'd actually say that it's even more of a reason to flog him to Paris and forget he was even there. Besides we're not even certain whether he refused to travel with United because he's a bellend or maybe he'd been allowed to stay by the club because negotiations with PSG were already in advanced stage and we knew that he was going to leave anyway.

Secondly it's £45m we're talking about. We have potential investors, we're in stock exchange, it doesn't reflect greatly on the club to give up on that sort of money - which would boost our operating profit for annual period considerably - because we're willing to punish a player. If it was £10m then all right, maybe we could make an example out of him, but it's a considerable fee that could be used to sign at least two new players.

Eriksen might have made a bad decision to join Spurs but that's another matter. He was stagnating at Ajax and there seemed to be very little interest from top clubs though so he didn't really have much choice. Lamela I don't think was on the radar for any of the big clubs either.

Your views on Di Maria situation seem very weird on all fronts mate. You seem to think he's worth £50m and if PSG don't add that £5m or so to the fee then we should just act offended and give up on the whole fee, and use him as a squad player for reserves. Maybe you're just annoyed at the whole thing

Maybe you are right. I am annoyed.
1. Our record signing acting like a pansy the whole time he was here.
2. He used us as a motel where he parked his luggage for a year till he sorted his "dream" move to PSG.
3. The little fecker then has the guts to defy LVG orders to join the squad after the shit he produced last season and the fact that we are listening to his wishes and negotiating with PSG.

However, I still maintain that we should take PSG to the cleaners. Him wanting to move seemingly only to cash-rich PSG and us having him on a contract for another 3 years should be enough to make them pay another few million extra.

Exactly, and this is why I want him gone as soon as possible. I liked him at the beginning but he started to become annoying around the turn of year and towards the end of season he was just extremely frustrating. He frustrated the hell out of me during his first seasons at Madrid and I don't even like Madrid. Watching him on the wing for them was painful at times.

Trust me, if PSG spend €65m on him we're not the ones being mugged.

The most concerning thing about LVG's quotes is that he rates Willian along with Ribery, Robben, Hazard , Bale, Ronaldo ,Messi and Neymar!

Van Gaal added: "We still need more speed in front and also more creativity. That is why I hope Di Maria shall stay. But we don't know that.

I can't comprehend why van Gaal never said this during the first press conference? Rather than the process rubbish. Seems to me that we don't want him here...

I think that is because he wants speed from his front men. I really doubt he thinks Willian is up there with those other players in terms of talent or ability.

So we dont want him cause he didnt say it in the 1st presser..?

In any case its him who doesnt want us.

-in any case what its strange with ADM, other than his extremely low confidence is that he only plays good or consistently in one position, LM (sometimes even not there), stick him to any other position he sucks. So however talented he is its strange he's so one dimensional in that sense. Better to have a player who can play in 2 or even 3 positions than ADM who get depressed every time you change his position.

Yes, pretty much. If we wanted him, we wouldn't be averse to expressing that thought. van Gaal decided to answer the question in a manner that illustrates that we don't really want him to stay.

As with the last part, he doesn't want to stay and we don't want him to.

I dont think it's that simple that ADM just wanted to hear LVG say it in a presser. He could have boarded the plane to have a talk with LVG and he didnt bother even with that.

I'm not suggesting that di Maria would definitely have stayed had van Gaal said that in the conference. I'm simply stating that the fact that he didn't say it when asked on the first occasion shows that di Maria isn't part of his plans.

If he isn't why did he say in the interview he wants ADM to stay?

It doesn't exactly help our negotiation hand if he says we want rid of him. We're looking at a chunk of a loss as it is.

Well I guess as you said it could be both. But with that kind of attitude he's showing now he should be as far from United as possible imo.

I think the bad attitude nonsense has escalated a lot, over the last few days. Seems to me he was told that he wasn't guaranteed a starting place in our team. This is Angel di Maria, one of the best players on the planet not too long ago. If he's good enough to start for Real Madrid, then he probably feels he's good enough to start for Man United. With PSG lurking around, he probably feels that it's better for him to move on and play for a team that will guarantee a starting place, and thus help him retain his place in the national team.

Nothing wrong with doing what's best for yourself. We don't know why he didn't board the plane. There were rumours that he didn't fly because he didn't want to leave Rojo behind, which would be stupid but doesn't illustrate any disrespect towards the club. Other than that, he hasn't disrespected the club. Like a few have mentioned before, he seemed to be gearing up for the new season and was ready for the challenge ahead.

Until we dont know further it seems he didnt board the plane cause he's waiting for the deal to PSG to get sorted. So if that's the case do you think that's completely unprofessional?
Also it seems LVG and the club dont know why he didnt leave, if it isnt sthing relating transfer to PSG ADM should have explained that and he hasnt done that.

Well like you've said, until we know why he didn't board the plane, how can we judge the matter? Maybe he was ill? Maybe some personal matters came up? Maybe he got burgled? I just don't see why he wouldn't board the plane because of him wanting to leave, doesn't make much sense.

Why wouldnt it make much sense. It makes sense, he doesnt want to come back and is waiting for the deal to get sorted. He wouldnt be the 1st or the last player to go on strike cause he wants out.
If it's true.
And you didnt answer me.

Because you don't know. You're just speculating based on your own logic of what makes sense to you rather than going by the facts.

Well if I dont know I can speculate right.
So I'm speculating that it can happen that player refuses to board a plane if he wants to leave some club.

Unless Di Maria is on the same island that Tom Hanks was swept to in Cast Away, I don't understand how difficult it would have been for him to call LVG/anyone at United to inform them why he has not traveled. Unless, as has been said, he has done so with the intention of forcing the club's hand to sell him.

So you admit you don't know. A positive start.
Yeah I dont know.
But as NK86 says he could have let the club know what's going on. I'm just speculating on this.

Did he refuse? who knows, but the club probably do
Well from the news we saw until know club doesnt know why didnt he board the plane but maybe it will know soon.

It's highly, highly likely that we have di Maria's contact details and most probably asked him why he didn't attend work.

That was on Saturday I'm sure there has been contact since then between the club and him if at worst through his agent
