Ángel Di María | Transferred to PSG

Without knowing why he missed the plane, I'll hold off on calling him unprofessional..

Maybe the deal is already through with PSG and he is taking another flight for a medical.

Or maybe he missed it intentionally, before an agreement can be reached giving PSG a stronger negotiating position.

If it is the former, good luck except if he plays vs United. Some people cut it at the PL level and he just couldn't. Hope we got a good fee back from PSG.

If it is the latter, well good riddance. He is not the first player to leave United and he won't be the last. We'll find someone who wants to play for us and if it is Lingard, I am all for it. Again I hope we got a good fee for him.

Our record with Argentinians... amirite? Next year Rojo will go on strike...

Laters Angel

Don't let the door hit you in the vagina on the way out

If (and it still an 'if' for now regardless of what's come out tonight) he wants to jet off to Paris and play for PSG then he's mentally weak and in my opinion not worth having at our club. We'll recoup at least £50m I'd have thought given his ability, form at the Copa America and that his first season here wasn't all bad. We get rid of a player we don't want for a slight loss and he gets his move to play in a second rate league.

If he is not the type of player who is ready to fight after all the club invested in him and after all the support from the fans then good riddance.

In such a case, I'd take a good professional like Pedro over him every day.

It sounds from the way LVG spoke that DiMaria didn't seem to have any issues with his flight (if he actually went for it), he just never turned up. This would reinforce what I've been thinking about him all along, that he never wanted to play for us. He just wanted to get out of the hothouse at Real Madrid and at some point join up with PSG.

This signing has been very poor business by us. While I'm sure LVG approved signing him, I think Woodward was the one who really pushed for it since he wanted to make Galacticos signings after how bad things had gotten in the transfer market under Moyes. It's too bad, really, because DiMaria does have fine playmaking abilities but he simply doesn't fit into LVG's system at all IMO. And more importantly, his play has gotten worse while players around him have gradually adapted to what LVG wants. That is one of the main reasons why Young played more than he did. He can't be blamed for the problems his family has gone through but how you conduct yourself on the pitch is something else altogether.

So overall, my reaction to him leaving will be...feck off. The ugly creep can go stand under the Eiffel Tower and think how great he is.

It was unprofessional what Di Maria did and it seems it shows that I was right about how tarnished the relationship between Di Maria and Van Gaal had been towards the end of last season. I believe Di Maria is extremely talented, but he is not a Van Gaal type player. If we had payed £60m for Sanchez instead I feel that would have been a better deal for United because he came from a team that follows a similar footballing philosophy that Van Gaal wants United to play. Even though, his managerial style last season showed otherwise

If this is the way he acts, I hope Woodward makes PSG bleed. F**k PSG and f**k di Maria. PSG will continue be a wanna-be-club and the way di Maria is acting, he fits right in with them, as somebody who has the talent but not the guts to cut it at the highest of all levels. He excelled as a third-stringer next to world class players for Real Madrid, but when he's asked be that first-stringer, he folds. That'll be my conclusion of him if him missing the flight is really because he's going to Paris.

How funny would it be if PSG wasn't willing to pay up and Woodward was playing hardball with them? di Maria's contract runs till what, 2017? Get comfortable Angel, you're in for the long haul.

Not really sure why everyone is so mad at him personally about all of this. Without knowing the facts just yet it just looks like we've agreed to sell him so he didn't bother showing up, which seems fair enough.

If he's doing it to force the move it doesn't bother me that much either, we'll get most of our money back for a player that clearly doesn't want to be here and his performances showed that. I wish it would've worked out, it would've been great to see him here at his best. Oh well though, we've already brought in Memphis who looks extremely promising and I'm sure we'll bring in other attackers as well.

It's that we invested a lot of money in him, provided him with the opportunity to step out of the shadow of the greats at Real Madrid, only for him to leave for PSG a year later. It's a weak move no matter what way you spin it. The truly great ones wanna cut it as the go-to-player in the highest leagues and with the best clubs. Di Maria did well when the attention was drawn by others at Real, but never really accepted the challenge of being the man. That's at least pissing me off, because solely based on his footballing ability, he has all the tools to become that guy.

Meh, he's about a 4 in the looks department. Our team would be handsomer without him.

Good call Woody.

He's a wimpy string-bean and it was blindly obvious he didn't have the physical prowess to cut it on a rainy night at stoke.

Was always going to take a big effort from him to succeed here and we saw after the first month that he wasn't up for it.

Hopefully we get 45+ and only lose 15m plus his ridiculous wages for the season of misery.

United needs men not boys.

A spineless coward and a lazy feck for leaving to the French league. Considering how United is a very supportive sports organisation, that lack of professionalism from the player is nothing short of utter despicable.

Quoting Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, the following is appropriate to describe Di Maria: You'll never be known as the next big thing, but always as the next big bitch!

You have to wonder whether Mendes only ever intended parking him here for a season, or whether this has all just snowballed.

In the long run it might prove to be for the best. Buying Di Maria and asking him to be conservative with the ball doesn't seem the best use of his talents.

You'd think he was going to Cambridge United with some of the posts in here. He's going to a team that would have beat every team in our league last season.(and basically proved so by beating Chelsea with 10 men)

That said, it's a big loss for United in terms of his individual quality. He was overrated in England for a long time but still that doesn't retract from his quality. I'm sure you'll replace him almost instaneously though to minimise any potential effects.

Either way I think this dispels the notion that some on here harbor that it's the club that wants to get rid of him. He clearly wants to leave. Just surprised that we are not playing more hardball on this deal.

Understood why he might have wanted to leave if his family was unhappy but he's going about it like a dickhead. Couldn't put in a bit of effort in the 2nd half of the season despite huge wages. Won't report when told, or keep anyone in the loop. I'll gladly rather have someone like Young with half the talent but twice the fight. We can find quality and commitment elsewhere so good riddance.

Think we are losing a big talent but can't disagree with you. Maybe he is just not tough enough to play in the PL. Saw him pull out of so many challenges last year...

You don't need to be tough to be a success in the PL (well you do a little tbh) but if you're not ready to fight to improve and adapt then really it'll never work. Bojan was doing very well before his knee injury for instance and he wasn't really a tough player, he just worked to adapt. ADM didn't wanna work for it so it's better that he leaves.

Sorry, I'm not up to date here, what happened? He refused to come to the camp?
He's MIA
While, according to Louis van Gaal, Rojo was not on the flight because of an issue with his travel documents, the manager was unsure why Di María had failed to board the plane. “Di Maria and Rojo are not on the plane. He [Rojo] has passport issues, but for Di María, I don’t know why.”

“[Javier] Hernández is here,” added Van Gaal of the Mexican who was injured during the Gold Cup.

Looks like he only got diverted here for the money grab by Mendes. That leach has profited way too long from this club and when De Gea leaves that's probably all of his clients moved out. Good riddance.

Thanks.

I was one of his biggest fans last year but he clearly wants to be elsewhere so him leaving doesn't disappoint me like it should.

I couldn't believe it when we signed him, it was such a statement of intent at the time. What a massive disappointment it looks like he has bottled it already and wants out. It's very insulting that he was told by United to be on the plane and he wasn't, that's our record signing who's our current number 7 earning more in a week than any of us likely do in a year, such a tough life he has!

Ideally I wanted him to stay and prove himself but if that's his attitude towards us and he wants to run away already then feck him, players like that despite their talent, simply aren't fit to wear the shirt. If he doesn't have the attitude and mentality to be a United player then we won't miss him but there's no denying its a huge shame. We should feck Mendes off too, he's clearly causing issues and not helping us.

I expect some will disagree, but I think United are doing the right thing by selling Di Maria. It's all hypothetical, but if he has another poor season, you'd do well to get €30m for him let alone the close to the money you'll get now. Yes, there's the chance he'll have better season second time round, but on the evidence of the second half of the season I can't see it.

I've defended him a lot up to this point, but all this shit proves what he really is - a coward with no fight in him. If anything, I'm extremely disappointed.

Go and feck off to PSG, you pussy.

Agreed. He's mostly been a very talented but inconsistent and erratic player. The only exception was in 13-14, and that was in a very specific system that has no chance of being replicated elsewhere. For the majority of the time last season, he was a brainless, wannabe superstar. Take the 45m pounds plus and run.

Looking at the transfer window as a whole, if we do sell, we'd break even and probably save 400k on wages since Falcao, RVP, Nani, and Di Maria all probably took up around 800k, while Depay, Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin, and Darmian should take around 400k. More than enough money on the bank to buy a couple of superstars.

It might be both.
He wants to leave - and the club does not mind him leaving if the transfer sum is okay.

If you want to keep a player and value him a lot you act different.

Been saying since February that he is just pissing about on the pitch. He was barely making an effort out there. I think it is the right time to get rid of him, otherwise he would have just been miserable around the club and also reducing his transfer fee even further.
