What are you even talking about ? He was great in his first few matches. Talk about rewriting history.

I know he was good but he did get substituted early out of exhaustion, didn't he?

Because his value has dropped after the season he had. We purchased him after he had the best season of his career. The price mentioned is as good as it can be for a player who, as it seems, we can't wait to get rid and desperately wants out himself.

We better have a good replacement lined up. Mata just doesn't cut in on the right for me.

Hence why the price was reduced to 50m. Having said that we cant keep selling our talent on cheap.

Or doesn't fit a manager's vision, which is averse to risk taking. I think it's a combination of factors, and it is not right to just blame the player for everything that has gone wrong.

Pedro will be a bit underwhelming for me. Never considered him a top player. Someone who excels because of others, not someone who'll make other players better. Though I am sure he'll be better than Mata on the right.

Di Maria had enough chances throughout the season to impress van Gaal and he didn't. He genuinely looked like he couldn't be arsed in the slightest and just didn't want to deal with the toughness of the Premier League. The blame does lay at his door because he signed a contract for an insane amount of money every week and he didn't play to the standard required. He was forced to watch from the bench by Ashley Young. We wouldn't be forcing him out, if he wanted to prove himself and not go down as the biggest flop in our history he could.....but he won't, he's already packed his bags to run away to France.

While not fully blameless, I don't see how van gaal is to be blamed for not using Di Maria properly. At times it was as if he was possessed by Ashley Young of 13/14 or something. LvG managed to get Fellaini into his plans. It seemed nailed on that Fellaini would be sold. He worked hard and became indispensable. Ashley Young worked hard and gave in some brilliant performances in the season. Some United fan accounts say it was unfair that di Maria wasn't used by van gaal properly and that he destroyed di Maria. Lvg made a lot of mistakes but playing Young over Di Maria wasn't one. Di Maria did play well in some games like Liverpool and villa but most other time he would try too hard and it would end up futile the move

I wanted to see if he had the grit to improve himself after last season like a truly world class player. Do you see Ronaldo Suarez Messi Neymar etc give up after a bad season? I'm disappointed he is leaving but I wouldn't blame the manager or our players for that.

How much will we lose? United didn't pay the £59M as reported as some must be based on amount of games, trophies and so on?

I do think it was a veiled dig at Di Maria when LVG said in his Seattle press conference that he's interested in not only the qualities as a player but also "how he is as a human being". Footballing ability means little without the right mentality. Hopefully, we'll learn from this in our future transfer dealings.

I don't think di Maria is cheap at that price. About par value, imo.

I think before that, we should sign players at market value and on decent wages. If Chelsea and Arse can do it, so can we. There is no need to go all Real.

For example: Mata, Fellaini, Herrera, di Maria, Shaw, Rojo were all overpriced and are probably on hefty wages. No one will pay a good fee for any of them now if, for instance, we were looking to sell them. High wages was most likely the reason we got pittance for both VP and Nani.

He started very well for us, looked like a terrific signing, providing pace, assists and goals galore. Then got injured & lost his place; also, VG became more cautious after the Leicester hammering and preferred a safer player in Young. I can't claim to know the insides, but it looked it like that he didn't fit the managers plan. I think it is very difficult for a 27 year old player to completely curb his risk taking & natural instincts, and his game in general, to a soulless possession game based on meaningless passing.

You are right that at times during the end of the season it looked like he couldn't be arsed and was going through the motions. So, yes, we can blame him for that.

Very unprofessional from Di Maria If he has just not bothered showing up. Whatever happens that's sealed the deal on his career being over at United.

Yeah, as soon as LVG said he didn't know why he wasn't there you can guarantee he'll never play for us again.

He'll be immense at PSG

To be fair, I doubt Di Maria was allowed to fly without a responsible adult looking after him.

We've been selling players on cheap long before LVG and Moyes signed with us and for all crazy reasons. Players were sold on cheap because they were great servants for the club (Phil Neville etc), because they forced a move (Heinze etc), because the relationship with the manager hit the rocks (Ruud, Beckham etc), because of wages (Nani etc) or they couldn't stay in line (Gillespie). Every excuse were made to justify why we cant take a realistic valuation for our players. In my opinion That must stop. Its doing us more harm than good

Sorry, but it is. Players that rich should have someone sort out passport and visa issues ahead of time. If they get denied a visa, then its different. Rojo had issues with his work permit last year, that's understandable, but this trip i am sure was planned ahead of time giving him plenty of time to have someone to sort out whatever issues he had.

Rojo has a criminal record and the Yanks are very strict on not letting people in with one.

Very poor behaviour from Di Maria. To the people here who are saying "he only missed his flight", you don't just "miss a flight" it's not the same as missing the bus. It's extremely unprofessional and I suspect it spells the end of his United career now.

He didn't probably fly because he knows a deal has been agreed, I suppose.

Maybe Woody didn't tell LVG about it yet.

I am very very curious as to what he says about his time at United once his move is complete and also about LVG and his philosophy.

Looks like he only got diverted here for the money grab by Mendes. That leach has profited way too long from this club and when De Gea leaves that's probably all of his clients moved out. Good riddance.
All of this. Time to cut ties with Mendes. All the cnut does is cost the club lots of money for little return.

Seriously just pisses me off.

Being harsh, but I bet he played shit on purpose near the end of last season so he could get his transfer fee lowered. And he could not wait to come off the pitch faster against Hull.

Disappointing behaviour from Di Maria. And a disgrace to the No 7 shirt. No fecking fight in him.

Yep. I noticed this too..

You'd think he was going to Cambridge United with some of the posts in here. He's going to a team that would have beat every team in our league last season.(and basically proved so by beating Chelsea with 10 men)

That said, it's a big loss for United in terms of his individual quality. He was overrated in England for a long time but still that doesn't retract from his quality. I'm sure you'll replace him almost instaneously though to minimise any potential effects.

Two games hardly prove anything. Chelsea played terrible and their performances were not representative of the performances they strung together over the course of the entire season. It's a hardly a given that just based on these results, they would've beaten every team in the BPL.

Monaco also eliminated Arsenal, that doesn't mean over the course of an entire season they'd finish ahead of Arsenal.

He's obviously a great player and it's a shame we'll never get to see him in full tilt for us (we got a brief glimpse at the start of the season), but you get that feeling he'd have to drastically alter his game for it to work out with us. He was absolutely useless out wide but that's where we need him. Swapping him for Pedro makes sense.

A true gentleman seems to leave the club. ;)

I am very very curious as to what he says about his time at United once his move is complete and also about LVG and his philosophy.

I am not really curious about that. He will critise the coach and the philosophy - because if he does NOT it would mean that he made few mistakes himself. And that can never happen when you are such a great player as Di Maria.

In retrospect, he never really wanted to be a here. He didn't fight to settle in the league and in the club. Harshly, you could change the famous quote from "Game of thrones": You gave us nothing, Jon Snow... ah... Angel.

This thread has become epic:wenger::wenger::lol::lol:. How united fans have loved Di Maria like they got some messiah last season and now this. From the first game it was clear that he is not made to play in the PL nor made to fit in a hardworking LVG system. He is a very weak one-dimensional winger and a liability to play in midfield in the PL. I dunno why United fans have kept their hopes high for this guy even after the performances he gave last season.

By the way, the Schweinsteiger transfer is also not gonna be that great. He will stay injured for half the time.

He came off of a dominant season with Real and played very well in his first few games with us, so we had a right to celebrate his arrival. His footballing abilities can't be denied, his mental weakness is the problem. If you wanna claim that was clear from the get-go, you're talking out of your ass.

Where are the people now who were adamant this would never happen and kept bringing up those bs interviews? It's always been apparent that he never wanted to be here and now he's fecking off after one shit season. Good riddance.

not bothered in the slightest. we produced our best performances without him last season and if he's got no fight in him then he's not right for us.
have fun playing in a second rate league

What a disaster this whole transfer has been if he is sold now. All to blame, the player, United/LvG/Woodward. The only party which looks good here are RM.

I also think he is actually exactly what PSG need to make the next step towards the CL trophy, he will provide much needed unpredictability to their play.

As for us, I will be happy with Pedro, but we need more than him (or Memphis has to adapt and perform immediately) to have an attack capable of competing at a high level.

Disgusting behaviour if true.

Exactly. Get this cnut out of our club. I'd have literally done anything to play for United and it makes my blood boil when a player acts so disrespectfully.

I'll be glad to see him move on, it seems like as soon as he signed for us it was all about the next move and PSG.

Good riddance, if true. We had to put up with his utter shite performances week in, week out with the hope that he'll get better, but he got progressively worse instead.

He's free to enjoy his early retirement in the French league. He's been a complete flop for us, one of our worst ever transfers.

There were some reports throughout the year (with some supposed quotes as well), that Di Maria always prefered a move to PSG over United and it was because of the FFP he didn't move to Paris last summer. These are only rumours, but I can see them being true, to be honest. I was denying it in my mind all season, but he clearly didn't want to be here and these interviews that he wanted to stay were bullshit.

His motivation and ambition should be questioned if he does join PSG. He obviously doesn't care about proving his doubters wrong and proving he could make it in England and United and wants the easy ride.

And yes, I'm aware that at the moment nothing is confirmed, but I think it's clear for all to see where this is going. Spineless bastard.
