So he's definitely going? If it's his decision then it says something about his carachter. He can be brilliant but if he has no fight then he should go.

Agreed. A bit surprised at the reaction to it all really. I can understand people wanting Di Maria to have a second season here to turn it around and I do too. But if he goes, it's because he clearly doesn't fancy it. In which case, good riddance.

What other reaction do people hint at? Majority has the exact one that you mention. Would have preferred that he stayed and turned it around , but if he wants out then we let him go for the right price.

Calling Di Maria a quitter for leaving/wanting to leave is really unfair though.
Quitter would be the wrong word indeed as he didn't really wanna play for Man Utd in the first place. Hopefully this transfer will teach a thing or two about targeting players who are 100% willing to come to Man Utd and not because the club they wanted couldn't pay the money.

Some of the stuff on twitter (I know, my fault for paying attention to it) is ridiculously over the top about it all.

if we played 4-3-3 with carrick (cm) schweini (rcm) and di maria (lcm) and depay (lw) rooney mata/pedro as forwards we could manage to use d maria in his favoured position and play depay at the same time. our left side would be really something.

but for di maria to play there he also needs to be mire gutsy and combative. so far hes only shown self preservation as an instinct instead of getting stuck in. he needs to improve that no matter where he ends up.

If we have accepted the £46 million bid from PSG then I will be pissed.

Especially when it's being reported that Real Madrid has rejected a €120 million offer from them for Ronaldo.

Anything less than £55 million for ADM and we are being bent over and fecked royally like a prison bitch!

Last season definitely devalued him. Would you pay £55m for him?

€62m according to RMC journo Bouhafsi. Disgraceful fee if so.

It's not bad at about £43.5 million, this while the Euro is so weak, also it'll be plus add ons so maybe another £5-£6 million.

We paid £59.7 million + add ons non of which will be payable, so worst case scenario we have lost around £15 million on player that was in the main dire last season, is on a huge wage, and wants out, that in my book isn't too bad.

I bet Liverpool would bite any club hand off that would take Ballotelli on loan (and pay his full wages) let alone pay a fee.

Yeah I think it's true. 10 mil less then what we paid for him last season basically, which again makes sense. We overpaid for him last season (and it was United buying which raised the price as well considering the money), after his best ever season. People are delusional if they think we were going to get the same price, after he had arguably his worst ever season, and when he isn't even first choice anymore. His stock fell down a lot so it's still a good price, considering that would have been his normal price last season probably.

The thing that makes this more frustrating is with Memphis possibly playing as a #10 we could have used him on the left wing of the 3 in behind Rooney.

Is it?
He had a value on transfermarket of 30m EUR in January 2014. Then he had a couple of good months and you overpaid for him...

No doubt about that. Not that I was complaining at the time as we needed a boost, but without question we paid more than he is worth.

If he goes it's because he doesn't want to be at the club, in that case the club are in an awkward position. How can they run up the price for a player who is saying he isn't committed to the cause and wants away.

When we signed him it was rumoured he didn't want to come here, if thats the case I'd question the logic in bringing him here in the first place. Sell a half up for it Di Maria and get a committed Pedro, we'll be better of IMO.

Also the price of players is what teams are willing to pay. Only we were willing to pay 57m last summer, after his best ever season. Who the feck is going to pay that after his worst one? PSG are the only team after him really so 45m is still a good price.

62m euros is just about right, and i think long term this will prove to be a very good deal for united.

For whatever reason di maria just wasn't working, we still don't know his best position, does he even know that?

It's a shame but for me, this is a good deal for both parties.

They want him, we don't want to sell. We should set the price, not them

But I think we did want to sell. Van Gaal made no committed comment during negotiations, if he really wanted to keep him, he'd have said as much. I think it's a great bit of business if we manage to get Pedro for half the fee, Pedro suits our system and philosophy, Di Maria just didn't.

lets see if this is really the deal that has happened. woodward isnt crazy. he knows what hes doing.

So many questions around this Di Maria (potential) exit

- When did the club realize he could be a goner ?
- Did United bank on his statement of him wanting to be a success here ?
- Did the club give Di Maria (and agent) a deadline ?
- When giving a deadline, did the club already plan for a successor ( one would argue ''ofcourse!'')

To many questions, guess everything will unfold within the next couple of days.

So, looks like he's gone. What a mess.

Hopefully we have a top winger lined up to replace him, but we'll probably end up with fecking Pedro.

I'm not disappointed he's going, but it's still pretty incredible he's leaving after only one season after we spent so much on him. But let's be honest he was a flop. Chelsea stuck with Shevchenko and Torres for years even though it was obvious they were never going to reach their expected level. I think we're doing the right thing by cashing in now instead of watching him stink up the place for another two seasons before flogging him on the cheap. Anyone expecting him to come good next season is deluding themselves in my opinion.

If he leaves, it will be good business in that we are offloading him now when the money is still good, as opposed to next year when he will be 28 and more difficult to recoup what we paid Madrid. LvG strikes me as being more interested in less costly players who he can slide into his lineup.

He spent last season on our bench to Ashley freaking Young. Add to that that he wants to move on. If anybody is getting bent, it's PSG! Paying world class money for a player who was world class for 6 months in his entire career. Our "being bent" was last summer when we paid 59m for him but we can't change the past can we.

To be fair, it's best for all parties. I suspect he like Falcao was a panic buy. At least LVG is getting the players he wants to fit in to his philanthropy or whatever he calls is.
