Ángel Di María | Transferred to PSG

Pedro will fit into Van Gaal philosophy more than Di Maria, however the latter is an exceptional talent and is in the top bracket of best player in football today. I m not sure whether it is a mistake to let him go as it was obvious to see that he was not a van gaal type player.

I don't think any United fan in his/her right mind actually wants Di Maria (2013/14 Di Maria) to leave.
No, they want half season Di Maria (mainly for that West Brom appearance) gone. Many posts in february were saying he was having a good season, so obviously he done something right before then even though his form went to shit after this. You would think previous years haven't teached us anything. Fellaini needed to be shown the door last year yet he somehow redeemed himself to many. Young done nothing for over 2 years now he needs a new contract. Di Maria shows half a season of bad form and he needs to go.

if he does get transferred we will definitely know either through van gaal or through the player himself. so far we can only guess. so those who are calling him spineless for wanting to leave are just presuming to know something that none of us know.

though i think he did show a lack of spine sometimes during matches which really annoyed me.

I think that's fair. As you pointed out we don't know much so it's a bit premature to call him spineless for wanting to leave. Add to that the last thing he actually said on the matter was that he wants to stay and fight for his place or something to that effect.

Di Mari has played as a wide forward/winger plenty of times for Real Madrid and thrived, he also pays there for Argentina and does a superb job there as well. Not a big fan of LvG now, but Di Maria's issues are all down to him, and him alone. As a few people already mentioned, the bloke simply does not have a spine. In the 2nd half of the season, the bloke could not get past a single player and would lose the ball every time he received it, and to make it worse, he would simply smirk after losing the ball instead of trying to win it back.

yea he could have been a brilliant player for United, because he is the most creative player we have in the squad. But his heart is not in it, so better we cut our losses and move on. The "attempted" break in excuse is getting pathetic, considering this happens everywhere. It is far, far worse in Argentina where people get kidnapped for ransom.

I would rather we get a player who wants to be here, and after this sale, i really can see Woody trying to splash out on another marquee signing.

A new day, the same old rumour without evidence and again panic follows.

Naturally but the larger percentage seem to be lamenting the loss of a player who really hasn't done anything for us to lament losing (other than an excellent season in a Madrid side which allowed him to shine really, I mean when everyone's busy shitting themselves about Bale and Ronaldo it's easier to find space etc.).

More like lamenting the fact that it isn't working out as people expected it to be which is causing the little anguish. It was a big transfer right after one very good season for him. I dunno about you, but pretty much majority were excited about him coming here, and it's obviously a little disappointing if he goes by his own wish or whatever just after one season where he failed to live up to the expectations.

How many times have we had an agreement with PSG? Has Ed Woodward, or someone else, been suffering the same issues as Drew Barrymore in fifty first dates?

Today should surely give us some sort of sign as Di Maria is supposed to be meeting up with the team.

cant we have pedro, di maria and zlatan? that would indeed be 2 players for every position as van gaal keeps saying. dont see an urgent need to sell him.

Daily evening routine of this thread:

1)French media's breaking news claiming agreement is done
2)Few immediate "Sad to see him go" posts
3)Followed by "Cut our losses when we can" posts
4) Argument on whether di Maria wants to leave or United wants him to leave

Rinse & repeat, every night.

true but the way van gaal replied to question regarding di maria and about him being part of the 'process' would make most fans think that he can depart in this window.

No,They actually want 2014/15 season Di Maria gone, because the only month he wasn't average was September (QPR,Leicester,West Ham and Everton), 4 good performances vs an entire season of mediocrity with one or two golden moments in every match and a host of intercepted balls.

All that talk of Di Maria having a good first half is a myth.

Di Maria = World Class, signed as a World Class player to perform at a World Class level (like Hazard,Sanchez,Costa etc) can't compare him to Fellaini and Young, we expected him to be twice the player both of them were last season and he wasnt even significantly better than any of them.

It's all twitter's fault. :p

I still maintain we should have signed him for PSG last summer in exchange for Sirigu and Verratti or Lucas this summer.

Is he really leaving? I am surprised L'Equipe managed to write such a news while no one else is confirming that...

Actually Sirigu would be a good idea, he is quite good and could be the next Buffon. It would offset De Gea's departure.

I'm not reading too much into his words, he also said he expected Di Maria to stay didn't he? Doubt he'll give anything away. I'm not dismissing that he might go, he didn't have an amazing year and had some problems off field. I know van Gaal gives in to player wishes- if they want out they can, but that will be difficult for Di Maria just because of what we paid. The club won't take a loss on him as we're in no need to sell. Without selling Zlatan for big bucks PSG can't even afford him, I just don't believe random French sources who have been claiming the same for over a year.

welcome to how forum's work mate.

It's only rumours, but I have a feeling this one will happen. Problem is, there's no one out there who is currently available (not that I know of anyway), that is on Di Maria's level. Yes he had a poor end to the season, and it's becoming obvious that he's much better in midfield than he is on the wings, but it'll be a bit of a risk getting rid of him, especially as he's only had one season in the EPL.

Quick glance at twitter, and can see that the French media have been reporting something different every day for the last week. di Maria seems to have agreed to sign, we also agreed a deal, at the same time we wanted 75 million euros, however, on two/three occasions we have accepted PSG's bid of 65 million euros. Oh, negotiations also broke down, but seem to have rebuilt over night.

di Maria was also supposed to be flying into the US to meet up with the team, but he decided that direct flights were too expensive, and that it'd be far more economical to stop in NY and, whilst he was there, have a medical with PSG before meeting up with United.

i dont think he said anything about him staying but i see the overall point youre trying to make. i also dont think zlatan will go for big bucks. hes 33 and they only paid 20 mil for him to milan a couple of years back so he has to be relatively cheap. but as you said, and i agree, di marias price tag could indeed be the reason why a deal might not materialize and we all would have panicked for nothing.
