City just bought Sterling. We bought Bastian, Morgan, Depay and Darmian (so far). Arsenal bought Cech. Chelsea will probably buy decent as well. Why would you think that English teams have not continued to strengthen?

Also, they might have matched the English teams in the last three years or done marginally better. That again does not prove your point. I won't argue further with you on this because it is only your opinion and I don't think it can be changed, but you actually cannot back that up with stats or anything tangible.

Neither can yours as the last 3 years stats have proved. What happened 5 -10 years ago is irrelavent. They have a better sqaud than Arsenal United and City atm (again my opinion)

I didn't claim that English sides have a better chance of winning the league than PSG. I only refuted your claim that PSG has a better chance than any English side and I proceeded to point out that they have not done anything in the CL which sets them apart from any of the English teams.

Ok we will agree to disagree. I never said they WILL win it, but to say they will never win it is a bit ridiculous, especially when you look at some of the teams who have won it.

where is never - not this year they won't. and most likely not next. what team has won it in the last 3 years (your time line) that are not better than PSG right now? the last surprise was the bin dippers. and porto the yr before.

Is it okay to post this yet?

I think they have a better team/squad than the english teams, thats my opinion, I never said they would win it, I said they had a better chance than the english sides and thats based on my assessment of their team vs the english teams.

Noted. Again its my opinion they have a better team than the english sides, maybe I am wrong but thats my assessment.

People were saying that he did not plan this because he bought a house.

Well looks like that house was rented and up for sale after Di Maria left.

I do feel the plan all along was to join PSG.

Completely disagree. Tevez for example had a couple of crappy seasons when not happy with Ferguson or Mancini, but him in the right setup, like at Juve, and he will shine.
But that's what excludes a player like him from being "world class". He only performs when everything is to his liking - a truly world class player performs no matter what he's faced with.

Clermont make nearly every final going though. If the Top 14 was a simple league without a playoff system they'd have won it many times. They're just the biggest serial chokers of finals in sport.

Not really, they would have won 1 or 2 title in the last 10 years. But It's true that their performances are the reason why they are a big club.

Hasn't he been living in a city centre hotel since the burglary in February?

To make it simple. I'm happy de Maria is gone. We bought a exclusive Ferrari but his contribution was nowhere near his reputation. Paying premium wages for man who never wanted to show up says it all. For me he's history. Good luck in Paris bit I think we will be much better without him.

Interesting Tweets from Simon Stone (@sistoney67) regarding the loss we made on Di Maria. In short, we agreed a price for 75m euros but didn't pay it in full. So the euro conversion didnt hit us as much as it could have.

Hit to Utd will not be as great as £ conversion numbers appear. Fee to Real was 75m Euros and payable in instalments. Loss will be abt £10m.

For those mentioning amortisation for ADM, write down is equal % per year of contract so you could argue small profit.....but......

If you buy a car for 10k and three years later sell it for 5k when you thought you would get 4k, have you spent 5k or made 1k?

The Euro/£ conversion is valid tho. Fee will be 59.7m in records but won't be sum paid

Write down wud b 25% as was 4-year contract with option of 5th. Is for accountants. Bottom line, bought 75m Euros - not all paid - sold 63m.

fee was 75m Euros. The conversion now would be £52.74m. Fee was payable in instalments so outlay not as high.

Yeah, was thinking about that last night. It can't have been very expensive overall.

They are definitely a big club but their accomplishments in France don't mean all that much. Ligue 1 is comfortably behind Holland, Italy, Germany, England and Spain in terms of quality and probably in the ball park of Portugal and Turkey.

It's more than 20 years since they progressed further than the quarter finals in Europe but they have made the QF for each of the last 3 seasons. They're a big club undoubtedly but not a top club.
It is difficult to gauge something like a top club. Man City were nothing some years back. Now they are a big team in the PL, though they suck on the European stage. Saying "Naa.. They are just a bunch of good for nothing twats" wont make them go away.
I have seen we are still bigger (also read as favourite) than Bayern arguments on this forum. But the fact remains that not many players in the transfer window nowadays look at history and all such stuff. All it matters is what the club is doing right now.

I agree with that statement and I would have found it completely reasonable if he had moved to Bayern or Barca (since he has already been at Madrid) as they are. currently, a much better team than United. But PSG have not actually done anything of note in the CL and are winning their own league on the basis of their financial muscle in a league which is no where near as competitive or renowned as the other major leagues in Europe.
Even if he is purely a mercenary, I seriously doubt PSG are paying him more than we had. The only reason I can see him going there is because he has the spine of a snail and lacks confidence to cut it out in the PL.

Or simply doesn't buy the LvG philosophy and the controlled aggression football style and is convinced that the philosophy can never be followed by him.

Apparently we paid 75m euro upfront with 15m in add ons.

Lets say we didn't pay of any of the add ons, we would be losing roughly £8-10m, which is not too bad (presuming £44m is a flat fee we are receiving). Though still think we could have pushedPSG higher to £50m.

I guess we are going to claw it back for the money we will get for Rafael..

Takes a bit long here. Just a pity it didn't work out. We had a world class player here who couldnt find his best form (and who seemed fragile mentally) and where the manager couldn't really find the right system either. For me, LVG is also to blame for this poor transfer in the end and why it didn't work out.

I still can't believe it went down hill so fast after he made a debut like he did in the QPR game. Every time he got the ball at his feet, he tore the defense a new one and set someone up. Its genuinely pitiful because we haven't had that kind of excitement from one player since Van Persie's debut season.

IIRM , @Vato made an emotional post last summer after the transfer saying how good he was and how he is going to help us win th title. Can someone find it and repost it just for the lols....

He's a bit like Kagawa. One decent season in a team tailored to his strengths, in which world class teammates made him look better than he was. Both were exposed at United.

Lets not be bitter just because he fecked off.

Amazing how when you signed him everyone was insecurely posting about how he will be thinking hes made a mistake not the other way around. The signing and departure reactions of Both him and Falcao are the most polarized I've ever seen anywhere.

Di Maria is a very good player but no one ever said that he was world class before 2013/2014, Di Maria was a supporting player for Ronaldo, Modric, Xabi alonso. He had one season with consistency in his game.

Does that justify him behaving like he could not give a rat's arse for half the season? I am convinced it is because of him being a fanny.

Just leave already. Stain to the badge.
Brought the wife and kids on the stadium tour today, his shirt was still displayed in the dressing room. Someone went and turned it around so his name was hidden and he got a few cheers
His shirt is still for sale in the megastore as well.

I thought this myth was put to bed some time ago?

His number are consistent, but in the game he can be spotless and do everything like he should or he can miss almost everything except that pass that creates a goal.

What a huge ass medical. They inspecting his toenails and follicle density between the butt crack in French medicals or something?
Get him the feck out of my club.
