Why does this in depth financial breakdown ignore the cost of the plates of cheese eaten by Di Maria at the training ground over the last 12 months? What about the % of the fuel bill on the team coach caused by his weight? Or the Landry bill for his admittedly usually clean playing gear?

PSG is the most plastic club imaginable. Owned by Qatar and created in 1970 when "..an ambitious group of businessmen decided to create a major club in the French capital. They chose to merge their virtual side, Paris FC, with Stade Saint-Germain." (from wiki)

How do you think clubs are created, how do you think United have been created?

A world class player needs to show a little more than good form in one season. The fact that he failed so miserably last season seems to have been completely dismissed by you. In assessing "world class" you need to take all performances into account, not just ones that suit.

He's demonstrably not world class.

Completely disagree. Tevez for example had a couple of crappy seasons when not happy with Ferguson or Mancini, but him in the right setup, like at Juve, and he will shine.

I thought we didn't make anything of kit sales and that's the point of the massive sponsorships? Also heard if we make anything it's as little as 5%.
We just get the £750m from Adidas over 10 years or whatever don't we? I say "just" - that's a massive amount but I don't think we get the shirt sales money - that goes to Adidas of course.

They're a big club cause of all the money they have now or have been regarded a big club before that?

They were a big club before the Qatari, they had financial problems in the 2000s though.
They pretty much always had a wealthy owner though, like Canal+.

Lolz.. And now we go into denial mode and start talking as if PSG don't exist. They completed their quadruple. Became Ligue 1 winners for the 3rd straight time. Knocked the best English team out of UCL. And hence are a big name currently in the world. They have a talented squad as well.
Talking about history to make ourselves feel happy is a scouser job.

That doesn't equal bigger than United or step up for every player bar Barca and madrid

He is advertising, you don't expect him to say "Sign for us, because we are big but not that big"

Usually not by merging established clubs. Imagine being fan of your local team who your grandfather supported and then seeing it being "merged" with another rival team.

There are other clubs "created" like this, FC Copenhagen (established/merged 1992) for one, round my neck of the woods there was talks of doing the same with three teams in Gothenburg some years back but the fans protested against the ideas of that particular set of "ambitious businessmen" so it never happened. There are probably a lot of other examples I don't know of, but to me these kind of artificial "super clubs" are about as plastic as you can get.

Fair enough if you say that Paris FC club was basically a new creation by the same guys but Stade-Saint Germain was founded in 1904. At a push you could say the situation is a bit different to the ones above as there wasn't any real rivalry, but a club like City is Egypt in terms of history compared to the 45 years of PSG.

Then you add the Qatar regime into the equation and you get a very charmless club..

Even if it is, it's ridiculous and deserves scorn no matter what his intentions were
It's all so small time, using the fact they got further than an English club in the CL as a barometer without realising they've never gone past the quarter finals.
So using that same barometer they're not the 3rd best side in the world then..

This may sound stupid but based on what?
They werent big in regards of trophies before the takeover.

Tradition, fans, Paris?

They are definitely a big club but their accomplishments in France don't mean all that much. Ligue 1 is comfortably behind Holland, Italy, Germany, England and Spain in terms of quality and probably in the ball park of Portugal and Turkey.

It's more than 20 years since they progressed further than the quarter finals in Europe but they have made the QF for each of the last 3 seasons. They're a big club undoubtedly but not a top club.

Fans I guess and emblematic players. It's a bit weird because it's like ASM Clermont Auvergne in Rugby they haven't won a lot, but they are an emblematic club.

Clermont make nearly every final going though. If the Top 14 was a simple league without a playoff system they'd have won it many times. They're just the biggest serial chokers of finals in sport.

The club is just Stade saint-Germain, the name changed and that's about it, the club trains and plays in the same place. It's not much different from Newton Heath becoming Manchester United.

They are preparing for life without Gaz, they want people to come to Qatar, also they are building a new training center in Paris, the players might not travel to Doha when it's finished.

Gaz?

Fair enough if they are building a facility in France, but you would have thought there was already a few top medical facilities in france they could use already.

You are missing the point, they are in it for advertising their country.

Ah fair enough i must have missed that part.

So just another way of generating some PR for qatar, i get you now.

Fair enough, you'll know more about them than I do. But the Stade Saint Germain records aren't considered a part of their history from what I can tell.

I will still consider them satan's creation if you don't mind :D

Our net spend is now down to approx £27m(ish)

With £75m coming in this Summer from Adidas alone, it's probable United will have £100m+ available to spend should they want to.

With 3 key shirt sellers gone (Rvp, di Maria, Falcao) it is difficult to imagine that the corporate side of Manchester United will be happy going into the new season with no "marquee" poster-boy name to sell shirts.

I strongly anticipate United are chasing Gareth Bale behind the scenes.

With the money left to spend, and the wages cleared. He'd be easily afforded too.

I understand the dislike, I just can't accept the plastic club argument just think about this, the Stade Saint Germain doesn't exist anymore but the Paris FC is currently in Ligue 2.

Can't believe i bought his shirt last season.

TBF he played a part for us to get top 4 finish and we probably earned a lot because of his name so the loss is probably not so big as some say. And if my brother who support Real si right we payed "only" around 60m euros for him because he didn't trigered any add ons.

I still had hope he can deliver next season and show his class with midfield we have at the moment but if he is not prepared to fight then why bother. We are doing the right thing with selling him and if we can bring Pedro in we are good to go.

All this talk about shirt sales is annoying.

It not like Di Maria was worth so much in shirt sales as i doubt 99% of people dont fork out for a shirt because we signed a player.
Its not like im sat here and go
''Shit we have signed Di Maria, ill go and buy a united shirt now''

It would be more like
''Right, im buying a united shirt, who shall i get on the back Rooney? Di Maria? Mata?''

Basically people saying he was worth 15 mil in shirt sales are wrong, as all the people who bought a di maria shirt would have just bought a shirt with another name on.

If he really tried to unsettle Rojo to get him to leave then at least he did something good for you.

Ryan Giggs has won more than PSG.

as many CL's as PSG had titles rior to the buy out. and my family lives in france and laughs at PSG. yes many are older than 20 or 30 yrs old and know that PSG was nothing prior. they are more like MK dons with money.

Agreed, plus PSG are a bunch of w*nks. I went to their stadium when I was in Paris hoping to do some sort of tour or see something, and nothing. Zlatan wasn't there to greet me, David Luiz face was plastered everywhere too. Horrible.
