put it in record. i wouldn't proceed his transfer until adm makes a correction. has this ever been the first player of united going on strike and we let him be? the harm done to this football club far exceeds the money lost on him
duh! it's a fans forum, no one has insider knowledge.
When a clubs record signing is sold after 1 season then it can only be seen as a disaster for everyone involved. If you want to just think Di Maria is to blame then fantastic for you...but i don't see it as black and white as that.
I just don't see how you can blame the club to honest, if subsequent details emerge that pin something on van Gaal or anyone else then fair enough, I'll hold my hands up. It's not as though he was frozen out the team completely though and there's been no indication whatsoever from van Gaal that he was thinking about selling him so everything points to Di Maria choosing to leave rather than being forced out.
I'm surprised that anyone who's watched him play an entire season for United would want him to stay. He's been shite, and is clearly unsuited to the team and league. If he's unmotivated as well, we're doing well to get such a big fee. £45m is a lot for crappy player.
The biggest flop? How exactly? He was a 10 mill plus wages deal. Akin to The Falcao deal. Not sure how you can ignore getting 40 odd million back for him? How much did the chavs get for their 50 million striker? That's if we wish to debate massive flops?
Maybe it was a bit of Karma for the way folk went after Ozil, even when he was playing pretty well, Di Maria said well if you think Ozil's flopping, you ain't see nothing yet

because he was dire , didn't care and is now showing what a div he is. he's a massive tit and injuries weren't part of his floppiness. he was shit for most of his time irrespective of the team he lined up against. total waste of time and money , time being a more important factor just like with falcao. time you can never get back wasted on these two.
But he also had a fantastic season and played excellent in 2 positions in which we needed a player- midfield and wing. It turned out he couldn’t play football at all in England, whether it was weather, place, burglary or whatever that made him lose all footballing skills. I thought it was a good deal when we first bought him, who could’ve predicted he will be such a flop with no ambition though. IMO it’s all in his head, he wanted out for a long long time. It's the expectations we all had that made him biggest flop of the season IMO.
He wanted to stay if I recall correctly, it’s Madrid who wanted to get rid because they wanted James.
Once they got James it was made clear he wasn't a starter, he was pushing through the transfer. Madrid wanted to keep him in the squad and have him compete for a place

I wouldn't be surprised if van Gaal wanted him out. He doesn't fit the philosophy, that much was pretty evident, last season. And, it didn't look as if he was willing to change his game. Therefore, van Gaal had the decision of allowing him to play in his style (away from the philosophy) or selling for a decent amount. He chose the latter as he deemed it the best option. He is the manager, and he has to make tough decisions, like these; time will tell if it was the right one.
I don't believe it's as simple as di Maria simply wanting out. He's a tougher character than most would believe, and he's encountered far more problematic situations in his life than the premier league.
I'm guessing 30m was the record before hand from Rooney/Rio, but at least we're making 73% of the money back whereas Torres was a bigger flop and eventually left on a free I think.

Jeez move on, guys gone we lost a Bebe transfer fee on him. Obviously never settled & could have done far better.
Personally more bothered about what we use the cash we're getting for him now!
Let's not pretend Di Maria wasn't good enough to play in England, that's laughably stupid. The truth is he never got a run in his favoured position, and most importantly, he didn't want to be there and couldn't be arsed to be professional and put in the effort.

You simply can't compare his transfer to Falcao's who was merely here on loan and so with relatively low expectations. Torres at least played for the Chavs a few seasons (2/3?) and has actually had a few memorable moments in his Chelsea shirt (a CL + FA + Europa?) unlike AdM who fecked off in a year without even trying (and of course winning nothing). It's all really relative - you can't really quantify how much of a flop a player is but quite clearly AdM has disappointed the club's fans the most. Are you actually saying we can afford to laugh at Torres' signing more than our rivals can laugh at us for AdM's?

I don't have a problem with this transfer. I personally would have liked if di Maria and LvG would have at least given it another season but especially in the second half of the season I already had the feeling that di Maria didn't want to be here and LvG didn't really count on him either. So him leaving is the best option for both sides.
However the manner in which this transfer was done and the player just not showing up to training anymore left a bad taste tbh and imo shines a bad light on di Maria and his agent Mendes (again).
Naturally the fact that we massively overpaid for di Maria doesn't make the whole saga any better but that's on Woody.

We were fleeced by Real, but now we're fleecing PSG in return. That does soften the blow of his initial purchase. Torres is probably the bigger flop since he played often enough to stink up the place and Chelsea got peanuts at the end of it. ADM did relatively little damage overall. No more than, say, Zaha.
Like Nani, he's high risk, highly wasteful but incredibly talented and sublime when everything comes off. The only way it could have worked was for him to tweak his style a bit or for LVG to absolutely allow him to do as he wants, but I guess neither him nor the manager was going to compromise.
Di Maria started very well for us, then went incredibly shit to the extent of messing up 5 yard passes and crossing balls aimlessly into the box, we won't sweat over replacing him, I never really took to him, not sure why, I think Pedro has the ability, talent and attitude to do well for us. Let's not act as if Di Maria was pulling down trees for us last season, Ashley Fecking Young put him on the bench and his reaction is to run off to PSG, what an idiot.
He "flopped" because he knew since Christmas he wanted to leave. We all know he has the qualities, but more proof that if your head and heart isn't in it, it shows on the pitch big time.
Galacticos signings are as hit and miss as raw talented ones.

ADM failed here, I can live with it. I'm more interested in what the club spend his fee on. Been pretty obvious he was leaving over the last few weeks, so I'm happy we've recouped a lot of the fee.
Are you saying the chavs didn't think Torres was going to take them to the next level? He was a phenomenal player for Liverpool, that's why the paid so much for him, and to sweeten the deal pool threw the cash away on a donkey.
hell we weren't in position to have any goal or assist by anyone chalked off or 5-7th was a possiblity. but for the money spent on the return - el floppo.
Which begs the question why did we buy him? Surely we had an inkling that we weren't even his second choice? Smacks of desperately on Woody's part to be honest. As did Falcao. Great on paper, but....
Yep, definitely. The thing is Falcao was bought on name alone. He was just a crap signing that Woody has to take full responsibility for. Di María was bought because he was a big-money Galactico but also because he could offer something very few others in world football offer - that pace and creativity we still sorely lack. I prefer to look at it as a risky gamble. It's easy to forget just how much of a wave he made when he played his first few games...
So even though United were far from his first choice he clearly had the potential to do great things for us. His attitude grew continually worse as the season went on but that all stemmed from how he was managed. If van Gaal treated him like a Ronaldo-esque superstar and gave him the freedom to do whatever he liked then I think he would've been perfectly happy here and would've been one of the few world class players in the league. Van Gaal isn't that kind of manager though. Moved him away from his most influential position for the benefit of the team and the "philosophy" and then publicly criticised him.
That's the worst part of it all. Woody wanted the Galactico signing and van Gaal had no interest in treating any player like a Galactico. Complete mismatch.
Decided to work it out, without his goals and assists we would have dropped 12 points and hence finished 8th with 58 points. It's poor logic though as it implies we wouldn't have anyone in his place, it's not like all of his assists were that spectacular and his goals only changed the outcome of one game (can't blame him for that though).
And his cup goals + assists were 'meaningless' too.
Goal + assist v QPR, 4-0 changes to 2-0 (-0)
Goal + assist v Leicester, 5-3 changes to 5-1 (-0)
Goal + assist v Everton, 2-1 changes to 0-1 (-3)
Assist v West Brom, 2-2 changes to 1-2 (-1)
Assist v Palace, 1-0 changes to 0-0 (-2)

2 assists v Burnley, 3-1 changes to 1-1 (-2)
Assist v Swansea, 1-2 changes to 0-2 (-0)
Assist v Liverpool 2-1 changes to 1-1 (-2)
Assist v Villa, 3-1 changes to 2-1 (-0)
If you look at the money and the way he performed on the pitch and the way he's now leaving us you have to admit he's the biggest flopp ever. His attitude stinks. His whole caracther stinks. He only care about money even though he's among the richest players out there. Disgusting footballer. Couldn't be happier he's leaving.
Good to get 44m. Just hope Blanc doesn't play him in cm (dont think he will) because thats where we'll see the real di Maria (no pun intented).
Never been a consistent winger and never will be, in my opinion. Think its the right decision seeing as Van Gaal wanted to play him out wide for the upcoming season.
Goal/Assist vs Everton (2-1) (his goal made it 1-0, his assist 2-1)
Assist vs Arsenal (2-1) (his assist made it 2-0)
Assist vs Palace (1-0) (his assist made it 1-0)
Assist x2 vs Burnley (3-1) (his assists made it 2-1 and 3-1)
Assist vs L'Pool (2-1) (his assist made 2-0)
Assist vs WBA (2-2) (his assist made it 1-1)
Those led to us obtaining 3 points (Everton); 3 points (Arsenal); 3 points (Palace); 3 points (Burnley); 3 points (L'pool); 1 point (WBA) = 16 points.

Your maths are a bit wrong. We would have gained 2 points v Arsenal, Palace, Burnley and Liverpool as the result would have been a draw without Di Maria's goals/assists.
