Planet earth where players have freak seasons all the time, specially when they move to a new side. For a team that has seen martial and shaw stagnate this year and nani, anderson before that I find it surprising that you believe that development and improvement is linear.
We should never sign anyone then, because there's always a chance they suddenly become shit.

Or we should only ever sign players aged 28+ who've consistently scored 30+ goals per season and we should never pay more than mid range fees for doing it.

Or, back on the actual planet earth, we target players who have impressed up to the age of 24 and look like they can finish some of the crazy amount of chances we've been squandering in the last year.

I'm sure that this 1st signing will just open the floodgates regarding our transfers.

No you're not. The ones who are being paid haven't come up with an alternative otherwise we wouldn't be signing Morata, savvy?

Make your mind up, the previous post you told me our scouts could find a better alternative, and now you're telling me they can't because they are shit. You're contradicting your own point. You still haven't explained how these useless scouts are supposed to have a more comprehensive report on players than Mourinho does for one he coached for three bleeding years.

Still, you can promise me there are better options out there despite not being able to name one, a single solitary alternative. feck you're persuasive!

Not really savvy as the ones who are being paid to have signed or recommended utter dross over the past few years and almost all of them have been moved on.

Not really, I would be contradicting my point if I was arguing that morata was the best player we could sign for almost a near world record fee while at the same time ignoring our record of overpaying for average to shit players who we have moved on in the recent past. Do you really want me to support signing a player when given the past signings and trend, it is kind of obvious that we are significantly overpaying for another player?

So you supported the signing of fellaini or schweign.? Still havent answered this.

Any part of I am not paid to be a scout getting through. Answer me this, do you honestly believe that there is no better player that we can sign for 60m+ than morata?

Will he get the number 9, though? Or the 7? That'll be interesting; if we're saving the 7 for Griezmann sometime later (yeah, I can't let go .. :().

Expect nothing less than 25 goals and we dearly need goals.

No pressure!

Also probably been posted before but i'm leaving it here again

Such a powerful player, tall, fast, definitley has the attributes to be a PL player

Nice. And our marketing team will be rubbing their hands with those Italian good looks.
Lol

That's not right though. His goals per minute has been more or less the same most seasons for both RM and Juve. Just that he played more minutes this season and thus, scored more goals. So it's not too much of a leap to think he would score a good amount when he plays a lot of minutes.

Do you just deal in extremes or is this an off day? There is a difference between signing someone who is 28+ and has consistently scored 30+ goals per season and morata who has had just one good season under his belt. What was his minutes to goals ratio last year btw?

We are paying a fee that will probably be in the top five fees we have paid for a player who has had just one good season. What other club does this on the actual planet earth?

Yea so let's completely ignore his latest season and concentrate on when he was 21/22 to form our opinions. Because clearly players never develop and improve with age.

Oh, wait, he already did.

Players can develop and improve but they has to show it. He may have potential but he's not proven goalscorer. And we need goalscrorer, better if proven.

Going by the last two seasons and whoscored.

Madrid- Minutes Played-1501. Goals=18
Juventus- Minutes Played-1990 Goals=9

You call that same?

Edit-season before that.

Minuted Played- 2065 Goals- 13

If anything, this season was the anomaly.

Im sure he played wide for Juve quite a bit. I remember seeing his stats as a 9 for Juve and they were quite good

Mourinho likes strikers to have a number 9 shirt, show when he gave Ibra the 9 shirt last year taking it off Martial.

Surely you don't seriously think we 'scouted' Schweinsteiger? Or Fellaini for that matter, as he was clearly a Moyes signing. Also when you're talking about the past, you're talking and Moyes and LVG. Last season has shown a vast improvement in our transfer policy with all 4 of our signings being definitive successes.

As for Morata's price, Lukaku was quoted at a higher price. Kane would be higher, as would Mbappe. Even the likes of Aubamayeng are having numbers such as 70m+ bandied around. The only way to pay less would to be gamble on an unknown quantity and that's a luxury we don't have right now.

Not sure about anomaly. He's at an age when he should be improving. Plus, it's easier to score goals in La Liga than Serie A with poor teams like Grenada and Leganes

If you read the messages chain, that was in response to ivaldo's claim that mourinho knows the player so he must be good.

All three of them are more proven than morata, I would be ecstatic with kane at a higher cost.

So we should expect him to score considerably less if we sign him? He should be improving but for someone to go from scoring once in 3/4 matches to scoring more than a goal per game in one season does scream anomaly or extenuating factors.

That fee though!

I give up with transfers, I have no idea what's cheap, reasonable or expensive anymore. My scale is off.

You've just posted his per minute stats yourself so obvious you already know that.

I exaggerated your position, yes, but you keep saying we should sign someone better and more proven for less yet can't name anyone who might actually be available.

You also completely ignore what's happened to transfer fees across the board and seem to want to base comparisons on history. Liverpool were about to pay basically the same transfer fee for VVD for feck sake.

He's a goalscorer.

It now looks more confirmed !

Good. Anything more that €70m means we would have got fleeced. And the people who are arguing if he is good enough or not, we can only judge him after a season or two. If he fails to play well the fans will get on his case. I would have still preferred Aubameyang for the same amount or Kane but I'm not Jose or Woodward.

Will do.

But as for those strikers, it doesn't look like they are gettable. Lukaku reportedly wants Chelsea, and even then I question his ability. Kane and Mbappe on the other hand I have less doubt about. However Kane is nigh impossible to get and Mbappe very expensive. Signing either of the latter two would mean we'd grossly deplete our budget. We need quality in several positions so dropping £120m+ is not ideal. Levy would demand even in excess of that for Kane, and the player himself is not one to push a move through so it's just not likely. Morata is one of the better options available to us right now. Mbappe looks like he is staying, and that's probably best as he could be a one season wonder, however unlikely that is.

Yeah, it's quickly got to the stage where every fee makes my brain go 'hang on, what was the world record transfer again?'

He's a goalscorer.

Not really, I would be happy to either sign someone better for a higher fee or someone better for an equivalent fee. I never mention signing someone better for a less.

I like morata as a player and am hopeful that he can do well here as his style of play does fit our team but we are vastly overpaying for him and there is a significant risk attached with the signing. I am pretty sure if that had happened we all would have laughed at liverpool.

As for naming players who might be available, last year if you had asked me for a centre back target I would not have been able to name bailly as I am not a scout. But instead of paying 45/60m for stones, we signed a lesser known and better player in Bailly. Me not being able to name a player doesnt mean that there arent good players available.

Kane would've been great but Spurs have a real shot at the title with a couple more additions. They would never sell him at any amount. Aubameyang isn't a Mourinho type of striker.

twitter user claiming Morata has removed Real Madrid from his social media accounts, claimed it was there 2 days ago.

Yeah but it means you can't back your argument.

Who should we sign for more money?

You say you're not a scout. And then you proceed with Bailly comparison. So we should sign a lesser knows and better player for more or less money.

Overpaying. By your accounts how much we should pay for Morata?

Surprised his numbers at juve were so poor. Was under the impression he was excellent that season, hence all the interest in him last summer.
