in all fairness, we hardly attacked the last two months of the season, we spent most of the time in games with 10 men behind the ball, only attacked in 2's or 3's and when too many people crossed the half way line you could actually see mouinho screaming at them to get back......... we wern't just parking the bus, it was more like we had bought a static caravan and put it in front of our goal. Of course our attack is going to be flat in those circumstances, Judging Rashford for that is beyond unfair.

Rashford has the potentiol to be a top striker, if coached and supported properly, we need to nurture that, yes buy a back up becuase Rashfords form will fluctuate as all young players do, but can you imagine if we had broke the bank to bring in a replacemnt for Ronaldo 18 months into his united career when he was still inconsistent? or we had given up on De Gea after a season and bought a replacement?

you have to give talenetd youngsters a bit of time,

Too risky. Before the last two months when we were attacking better, Rashford did not particularly light up the world. He was played wide and people said the problem was that he was not being played as a center forward. Jose moved him there and nothing changed. People said the problem was Zlatan. Zlatan got injured yet nothing changed. I believe in that kid but the jury is still out on him.

I agree that talented youngsters need to be given time, but doing so will always be a big risk because a young player's outcome could swing either way. You also need to really manage that waiting period well, otherwise, it may ruin a lot.

There is a big difference between United and clubs like Monaco and Ajax. While they can afford to allow teenagers lead their lines, United (ideally) competes at levels that require the very best marksmen in the business.

With Ibra most likely out, we really need to buy a damn good striker this summer. This will be good for Rashford and the entire team.

Rashford spent the first 6 months of the season either on the bench or played as defensive winger, then Ibra gets injured, and Mourinho brings in the static caravan and of course Rashford struggles, any striker would.

and people could of made exactly the same argument with De Gea and Ronaldo, its too risky to have patience.... and is it really that much more risky then spening 70 million on a player who hasn't ever really held down a starting spot at the age of 23?

None of the players we're being linked with a worth anything like the money we're seeing quoted in the press. Our reported offer £52m is more than fair for Morata.

There's gotta be some old timer we can get in for a season or 2 like Ibra

Edin Dzeko a.k.a The Bosnian Diamond.

Captain of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

This guy can still find the back of the net pretty well and he wants to play for Jose.

Played 80 for his country and scored 50. The highest number in their history and their player of the year for a few years in a row now.

31 years old. 6ft 4 inches.

37 appearances and 29 goals for Roma this concluded season.

Knows the EPL like the back of his hand.

Played successfully in 4 different leagues.

And signing him will piss off the folks in blue.

In an ideal world, you don't want to sign him but in a world where Lukaku is going for a hundred million bucks, Morata for 78 million, and Zlatan can still hit dozens of goals in the EPL, he might just be a shrewd signing for a short period.

First 6 months on the bench? He was one of the first names on the team sheet even though he didn't contribute much in terms of goals and assists. I am 100% for giving chances to young players but we must do it slowly and when the time is right, not just throw in 18-19 year old player and play him every week, especially as #9. The idea of not signing a proper #9 and instead leaving it to Rashford for next season sounds really crazy to me.

For a stop gap. we can test Juve on Mandzukic
Absolutely no chance Mandzukić leaves this summer. He's a crucial player in this Juve team and Allegri loves him - IIRC he said he's the best player to work with he ever managed. Also Mandzukić's role is no longer a #9, so that's an odd call.

Zlatan got injured yet nothing changed.

Along with zlatan rojo also got inured and smalling ones were already injured, ashley young got injured too and also luke shaw along with Pogba's father on death bed which was difficult time for him and his family. So Mourinho became defensive mourinho and not much changed in terms of attacking.

We need a good striker but we also need value for money and the number of goals from a striker and brings others into contributing goals too with the likes of martial rashford and mkg ans pogba capable of that.

Buying overrated players for extortionate prices is insanity. 2 lesser players will add more goals and options than one slightly better player who's first choice wont be to come here with eyes closed. And we need goals.

I think i'm coming around on Morata, or maybe its desperation which is insane because its so early in the window (it didnt officially start even!), its just that there are so few strikers on the market and i'm starting to worry. We definitely one this window theres no two ways about it and we might have to overpay.

They presumably think they can get Mbappe in to be an understudy/rotation option with Benzema. Consequently, we can expect them to drive the fee for Morata up as high as possible - it looks like Mbappe will cost an absolute fortune.
Recent reports suggest Mbappe will stay for one more season though.
But it does not make sense for morata to keep being a bench man who knows he'll never be madrid's main no 9 if mbappe's intrest of madrid is real.
True, but I can't see him forcing the issue this summer if Mbappe isn't signed.

I have too many concerns about Morata, and it starts with the fact that he'd rather be at Madrid, as 2nd option, than come to us. Should he succeed at Old Trafford he'd push his way back to Madrid. Besides that, he logged first option minutes with Juve, 47 games, and scored only 12 goals, on a squad good enough to have won everything in Italy.

I am salivating for new blood, and to make a big splash, but this guy, at £70m, I just don't see it. We need to pursue players that would want to be here. I'd much rather offer another £35 for Lewandowski, or (as underwhelming as it may sound) a stopgap/future 2nd option like Dzeko, or Benteke, or Negredo. Would Cavani be expendable now with the arrival of Aubameyang @ PSG? Can any of our guys play a true hold up #9? (I see Rashford with more ability as a winger, and I'm not sure if Martial can do it, even if he manages to figure himself out).

i said "he first 6 months of the season either on the bench or played as defensive winger" and to be honest rashford ant a great winger and espically not a great defesive one so no he didn't contribute much.

the thing is if we sign a 70 million pound player, then thats basically it for Rashford career at united, he isnt going to get the time to progress and learn when you bring in a player who just on fee alone you have to play, so saying it will stunt his progression is an understatement.

plus i don't think their is a player we can buy this summer who Rashfrod doesnt have the potentiol to be better then.... sometimes if you have a gifted youngster you have to show a bit of patience like we did with players like De Gea and Ronaldo

True, but I can't see him forcing the issue this summer if Mbappe isn't signed.

Then clearly he lacks the ambition to unlock his top potential and be a spain wc member and a top player. Does not make any sense to go overboard on prices to get him.

Mbappe is young but atleast he has that hunger to be there with france.

Umm... I think what people are highlighting is that he didn't particularly set the world on fire even later. For all the "flashes", he scored 5 (Five) all season and that's not good enough. Morata, apart from being a striker can also play on the wings and even in sporadic appearances, sub appearances and playing with the back-up players scored a ton more...

Why should it be a case of "that's it"? Competition is good - and gives players the edge to fight harder. Also, there are actually formations which could use both (as I said, Morata is more versatile than just being a #9 - sadly, his other position at Real is occupied by a certain Portuguese superstar). Also, to be honest, I've said for ages that I don't think Rashford is not all that he's cracked up to be. We see him as this world-class player because of the few games immediately after his debut and because he's home-grown and came out at our worst period in decades. Overall though, his game is not the best and he's not a composed finisher. He's far away from being the finished article. Compared to him, at his age, Rooney and Owen were miles ahead...leave alone players like Cristiano Ronaldo.

Based on what are you saying this? Ronaldo was scintillating even at 18 (younger than Rashford now). De Gea was actually dropped and his career here could have suffered massively if not for a timely (for him) injury to Lindegaard. Let's not get all gooey-eyed about this. The best coaches are ruthless and Jose knows what he's doing. If you think that Rashford is - at present - better than Morata, you're looking at things with very rose-tinted spectacles.

Checked, didn't find anything. Everything is about bid rejected.

I agree that it makes little sense for United to spend that kind of money on him, but that doesn't mean Real can't be right in demanding that price for him.

It's desperation. There are only a few top class strikers available, but he isn't one of them.

I saw a tweet in the Transfer Tweets thread which said Real want 90 million for Morata? What are Real smoking? Why are we chasing a bench warmer when we could get Auba for 70 Million? Feck me if the rumors are true.

the way Rashford has been deployed this seasons im shocked he scored 5 goals, between large spells on the bench playing in rolls that he isnt good at and when he finaly got played in his position that suits him he was playing in a team not allowed to attack

I dont see him as world class i see him as the potential to been, to be a top striker, you obviously don't think this so of course your going to look at the situation diffrently.
and come of it you bring in a 70 million pound striker of course thats going to limit a young players playing time, and players need miniutes to progress, they dont just get to mid 20's and be the finished article without player regular football.

ronaldo was massively inconsistent at 18, fans pundits where all calling for him to be replaced and untited had to replace beckham properly..... fergie stuck with him and got the reward.

for me Morata is a decent striker, currently better then rashford, but is he good enough to be the number one choice striker for a team that wants long term wants to compete for champions leagues, i mean 70 million ish for a guy i think u'd struggle to count in the top 5 strikers in the league, never mind Europe, who has never held down a starting spot........ not to mention risking the career of brightest young striker we have had at the club in over a decade, who has the potentiol if he is managed correctly and applyes himself to be a top striker..... for me that doesn't seem worth it.

Yeah, his stats have been terrific this season and i reckon he could still be good for two or tnree seasons. I know some wont be keen on signing a city 'reject' but id have him in a flash.

Can't believe what I've seen. There are actually United fans that exist who'd rather have Giroud and Dzeko, just for the sake of saving a few million. Signing Real Madrid's rejects is one thing, but Arsenal's and City's? Wow

If the players heart is not really into coming to United.........and bearing in mind Mourinho stated that he only wants players who WANT to play for the club, I think, to avoid another high priced disaster, we should leave well alone, no matter what.

If it's true we made a bid, player is more than likely willing to join. We certainly made contact with Morata first and wouldn't bother to start negotiations otherwise.

They mean spending the money on actual quality like griezmann next summer. If morata was a 25 plus goal season top striker the money would make sense. But not overrated players for overrated prices.

God i hate bartering. Just say how much you want for fecks sake!
Doesn't matter United shouldn't be paying anything more than what they have just bid especially for a player that hasn't nailed down a starting spot and is sat on the bench most of the time.

A top class goal scorer, as he showed at Wolfsburg and is showing at Roma. 39 goals and 9 assists for Roma this season. He had a decent record at City too, but his problem was that the team never completely revolved around him. If you set up around him properly, you'll get a lot of goals.

Yeah, we dont normally actually bid until weve dotted our i's and crossed our t's about whether he's open to coming or available. If its at the stage where we're making formal bids then id reckon its gonna happen.

If we are prepared to spend upwards of £70m on Lukaku or Morata then why the heck don't we at least test Tottenham with a similar bid for Kane ?

Kane is at least £25m better than either of those two and Spurs can say what they like but I don't think they could resist a £100m for him.

Yeah lets commit to that and start next season with danny ings up front and pat ourself on the back for being thrifty.

Our ambition should be higher than setting our team up around an ex-City squad player. Come on man

He wont come, they wont sell. We'd be wasting valuable time.

of course they could resist that bid

the only way Kane will go anywhere is if he puts in a request. I dont see that happening anytime soon

Not at all Madrid's stance on Morata is ridiculous he isn't worth anywhere near that and the fact they bid £60 million for De Gea and want £78 million for Morata should tell you they're not happy with United's justified valuation at one of, if not the best goalkeeper in the world.

If 100m could get Kane, he'll already be here. Spurs just won't sell him. He is worth way more than 100m to them.

In this crazy market, I can see Levy easily turn that offer down.

Actually, I'm just really curious, looking at the quoted prices in this market, under what hilarious price he would be willing to let him go.
