So looks like he's going to Milan for 60m. They really did try and take the piss didn't they?

Well should come to no surprise after the DDG saga. They were always going to piss on us for any player we want from them after that.

We accepted £40m. They should be thanking us! Not our fault they don't like PDF files.

Would Madrid really sacrifice €10-20m just so they don't sell to us? I can't say I'm convinced.

Is it not better not to sell to a rival club?
I certainly would charge a rival more money.
Yes we are a rival in terms of status and UCL

Or, once they failed to sell to us and realised that no one was gonna cough up 90m euros, they blinked and sold him for a lower price.

We're in no position to challenge Madrid at the moment, with or without Morata.

Ac milan are shaping a great side themselves. This is a punishment for the ddg saga

They saw us coming, they know we have a lot of money and are desperate for a striker. Nobody else was gonna pay £90m for Morata, hell even we told em to feck off.

Rival? We struggle to qualify while they win it. How are we more of a rival than Milan?

Of course we can't, but we are a juggernaut financially. For all their success and our relative failure we still produce the financial rewards. That must really annoy Perez. If we got back to our best we would be even more powerful.

In terms of status of the two clubs, its obvious we are rivals atm, even if its less so on the pitch

I added status, because our rivalry doesn't end at the pitch, that should be clear with how things went down with Pogba last summer

We are rivals at chasing official noddle sponsors, not sure that means they dread the idea of Morata at United much more than Milan

Who said dread, they would charge us a premium. We're financial rivals.

I really wanted him here, and if not here then I wanted him to stay at Real.

I'm confident he'll do very well wherever he goes.

I assume Real Madrid just thought they'd play hardball because eventually we'd cough up... they know we have money and maybe assumed all our eggs were in the Morata basket.

In the end it has cost them because they'll end up having to accept a lesser amount from someone else. Hopefully it shows them and others that we'll be prepared to walk away in future if they choose not to accept decent offers that are unlikely to be matched by other clubs.

Seems like Madrid were intent on fleecing us due to either De Gea or the fact they know we got a bumper TV deal this year, would explain why they also quoted Chelsea the same price.

I would suspect there's some sort of deal in there for Madrid, first option to buy back or sell on clause. Either way, if he has a great season at Milan next year, there's no reason why they wouldn't be willing to do business with us for him, especially if the price is right.

Id hope Martial/Rashford would have solidified their place by then with Lukaku and we move on to sorting other areas badly needed attention like wide players.

I was hoping that we would sign him and for all the hard ball bullshit from Real they are loosing him for much lesser. IMO Milan offer would be lesser than the one quoted in the media.

That would definitely be the ideal scenario but if we're going with two centre forwards this season, we're going to need another at the end of the season when Zlatan finally signs off. Morata and Griezmann coming in maybe?

I agree but Perez will have one eye on the Super Cup in August. It wouldn't go down well if they sold to a 'rival' and then we beat them while the world is watching.

Currently we are no rivals for Real Madrid and this makes no sense. Nor does any failed De Gea deal previously! People are acting as if the selling club should have 'one' set price for a player regardless of context. In the real world, any club would try to get the maximum price they think they could get from selling a player (except us that is!). Till United were in the mix, there was more demand for him and the Madrid people clearly thought they could get 90m from us which was worth the risk as the alternative was available with Milan at 60-70 million. They simply took a commercial risk that didn't work out.

The reason why they are willing to sell for less to Milan is they know Milan will not be able to stump up much more money. With us, they expected us to offer more money for him.

Glad he'll be heading off to Serie A vice the Premier league. Being linked to him for so long, I've developed a fondness for Morata that I typically don't have for a non-Untied player. Hope he does well at Milan.

I hope our relationship with real/barcelona will getting worse. I dont like how they buy ronaldo and we need to protect our best player like pogba/martial/rashford in the future from them.

Still angry how they buy ronaldo
