Álvaro Morata | Chelsea player

There are sides to this story, i am hoping for the latter however the former is more likely.

Side #1:
We were negotiating for both players side by side (similar to Keane/Lindelof) and the reason we were in such advance negotiations with Morata was because, we thought it was a done deal to Chelsea (Lukaku), however we were possibly tipped off by Riola or maybe after discussing with Lukaku himself he preferred us over Chelsea, then we quickly moved in we thought he was less of a risk, being premier league proven and all so went ahead and bought him instead of Morata.

Side#2(My Favourite)
After agreeing the fee with Lukaku, we publicly tell to the press we no longer need Morata and we are hoping Real will drop the price to a more realistic 65M max at the end of July when we go in for him again. We must have briefed Morata to hold tight. But this theory will be tested once Chelsea go all in, and if we really wanted both then when we realize Chelsea are in negotiations with Real we will quickly wrap up the deal, since we have already agreed the terms with Morata (reportedly).

A part of me (Muppet one) wants us to sign both, because realistically it makes a lot of sense, We are one injury away from Rashford/Martial again, and i have read everywhere it was Greizmann+1 this summer. Last season we had Zlatan,Rooney,Martial and Rashford for striker positions now we have only three. But who knows, maybe we might sign a cheap backup striker like Hernandez or somebody.

The problem is not so much my preference, but what I read of Mourinho past choices. 4-3-3 has been his defensive setup, not offensive.

Again, I agreed with your Isco description for Mkhitaryan/Mata, but that's a diamond.

Agreed, however, recent evidence suggests that, nearing the middle/end of the season when Mourinho started experimenting with a 433, he didn't care who he played it against, as it did the job for us, and in my opinion, looked a lot more pleasing on the eye. For example, we played a 433 against Burnley, Sunderland, Celta Vigo, Palace, Ajax, etc. We wouldn't have a defensive set up against these teams. Not initially anyway.

On paper it would be a 433, as it so often was for Real, but in game, it would be a diamond. For example, when Mata played on the right in a 4231, he very rarely stayed there. He used to roam everywhere, but it was still expressed as a 4231.

You could have add the Man City game, and that 4-3-3 was with a depleted squad just managing to survive in difficult games with superior opponents physically. I for one didn't like our performances then. For me, the Ajax game was (an also very defensive) 4-2-3-1, so far upfront was Fellaini; one doesn't have to like him to recognize he played #10 in that game.

Perez dithering over whether to sell Alvaro Morata to us convinced Woodward/Mourinho to revive his interest in Romelu Lukaku.

Ed and Jose probably became concerned Madrid were dragging out negotiations with United in order to eventually offer Morata a new contract and portray a possible renewal as a coup. In recent years we have pursued Ronaldo and Ramos only for the players getting bumper contracts and extensions at Real Madrid.

Considering Morata only signed for us last season for 6 years (2022), this was most certainly not the case.

There you have it, a state of average EPL fan, laughing at facts because he doesn't like how they sound.
What if I told you that Harry Kane is better than Ronaldo at every statistic possible on per 90 basis? Facts are whatever story you want to tell. Get over your high horse.

I'd be more excited by the Lukaku signing than signing Morata. Even tho parts of Lukaku's game have been criticised, the guy knows how to score goals in the premier league and he may very well get even better.

I was not aware of this.
Please do tell.
My understanding is that CR7 beats Kane in virtually all stats.

If you signed Morata people would be saying they're happy because you got the more complete player but now that you signed Lukaku, Morata is just a bench warmer who is not worth as much as Lukaku and is not premier league proven.

Of course I'm going to laugh and give you my perspective, what else do you expect me to do?

Crazy that you'd have varying opinions on a forum with so many different users. Baffling, isn't it?

There's a job waiting for you in Trump's Whitehouse.

Well that's what I thought, but RedCurry has some stats which show Kane is ahead of CR7 and I would definitely like to see these.

Edit: take these with a pinch of salt. In no universe is Kane better than Ronaldo. But I am only sharing some "facts".

This seemed inevitable after they missed out on Lukaku. What I don't understand is why are they so keen to get rid of Costa? He's a thoroughly unlikeable guy, but been an excellent striker for them. Seems pointless to sideline your main striker before you have a replacement signed.

No way back after the Conte text tbh

Think he wants to leave and has made sure it happens.

Chelsea have fallen on their feet here, he'll be a great signing for them and a great foil for Hazard.

Because he's a thoroughly unlikeable guy all around, not just on the pitch

I said it before, he might turn out to be a better signing than Lukaku but definitively y he is a bigger gamble. Lukaku is a proven EPL striker while Morata might struggle to adapt. Will be interesting to watch him.

Absolutely, he could be class but he only scored 12 goals last season. Compare that to Diego Costa who had scored 36 at Atletico the season before Chelsea signed him.

I still think a transfer is largely dependent on Mbappe arriving. Why would Real weaken themselves so much without an incoming striker? And Mbappe seems fairly likely to stay at Monaco.

There is a good chance Chelsea gets screwed and ends up being forced to pay whatever Torino asks for Belotti.

I prefer Morata as a player but United did well to avoid this situation by signing Lukaku instead.

If I'm Real Madrid right now. I'll put 80m pounds on Morata without adds on and accept 75m pounds + 10m pounds with adds on. Chelsea is desperate to find a striker, Real should take this advantage to make more cash for Mbappe. No rush for Real to sell.

I also feel Morata's not as physical as Costa or Lukaku and might struggle sometimes playing alone upfront, if Chelsea keep their formation.
