Custis gets scoffed at on here constantly, but there is worse out there, certainly when it comes to us.
Custis absolutely knows what he is on about. People have mocked him for articles such as 'sanchester united' and about us bidding for neymar. At the time they seemed daft but both were found to be correct after the fact.
Dont remember that one, but he's teased us enough times. Point is Custis doesnt say something that direct without there being something behind itRonaldo too. The year Moyes took over.
I meant like for like as in terms of goals. Not that they are similar players. Morata would be replacing Ibra's numbers. We still need another goalscorer on top of Morata. Why would you think that? He's actually got a very good scoring record and is a big-game player. Also, he's nothing like Zlatan - he's much faster and does indeed get a lot of players into the game with hold-up play. He's capable of being very direct and is tall as well (not as tall as Zlatan but can't have everything). He's not got that insane almost-gymnast-like flexibility of Zlatan, but has the potential to score a lot more. Zlatan scored a bunch but also missed loads of chances last season. Morata has excellent stats for hitting the target and converting chances. So no, I don't think he's anything like Zlatan.
As for needing a winger and other players stepping up, that's taken for granted. Clearly a lot more goals will be expected from the likes of Rashford, Mkhi, Pogba, Martial or whoever else is added to the forward lines.

Oh yep. Agree there.I meant like for like as in terms of goals. Not that they are similar players. Morata would be replacing Ibra's numbers. We still need another goalscorer on top of Morata.
We do indeed; but it's not just Rashford and Martial (or whoever we get in for that position). Mkhi and Pogba had disappointing tallies and so did Mata, Lingard (let's hope we have an upgrade) and even Herrera - though he was burdened by having to sit deep as well. Morata is indeed a striker replacement. Wide players and AMs definitely need to step up their contribution though. Double-digits from wide men should be standard and not something surprising. Same for a guy like Pogba. He should easily hit doubt digits in the league itself, specially if we stick to a 4-3-3 and add a DM beside him and Herrera.Pretty much, if he scores 27 goals like Ibra last season, we're still short unless Rashford and Martial step up big time
can't wait to see this dude beasting for us and seeing the bumps this thread will get
This thread will be locked if he signs, so no one will be bumping it.
Each game he scores, people will laugh at posters who didn't want him here and each game he doesn't score the 'told-you-so' brigade will be out in full force. This season will be fun. I think.can't wait to see this dude beasting for us and seeing the bumps this thread will get
Agreed. His movement is really dynamic despite what his build suggests.. Dont think we've had a forward that was a starter for us with his playstyle for a whileIf he signs, I think he'll be very successful. He's a lot more mobile than Zlatan, and I think that'll make him a lot more dangerous playing with wingers like Rashford and Mkhi.
Really, really excited.
No.Would in any way Morata and Lukaku be able to play together?
Not to veer off topic, but wanted to ask a hypothetical...
Would in any way Morata and Lukaku be able to play together? Is there a fit at all in Mourinho's system - or any system for that matter? Any chance such scenario may play out on the pitch if the unthinkable occurred - such as both players signing this summer?
Morata is a far better all around player than Rashford ffs. It's not even a debate ffs!
The problem is his importance has been way overstated by LVG and Moyes who gave him that huge ass contract. He should be phased out in favour of Martial + another senior striker brought in. I'd take Morata.
Sounds like he is guessing tbh, mainly because he knows feck allDid anyone see the Graham Hunter podcast?
Apparently he still thinks Madrid selling Morata depends on Ronaldo and could rumble on

Possibly, but in reality we never would so its a moot point. The cost of signing both would be atrocious as well. Not to veer off topic, but wanted to ask a hypothetical...

Ronaldo is going nowhere that's pretty obvious, so can't see how that will be a problem.Did anyone see the Graham Hunter podcast?

Congratulations.Posted this a year ago in the End of Rooney thread. Glad to see I called it.
Who wouldn't want a player of Morata's quality to be backup to Benzema/Mbappe?I don't get it, my Madrid supporting mate says that Madrid want to keep him. If thats the case why is he available?
Because he wants to go. He wants playing time in a World Cup year and Zidane wants to play Benzema even though a lot of Madrid fans prefer Morata.I don't get it, my Madrid supporting mate says that Madrid want to keep him. If thats the case why is he available?

If he can't displace a declining Benzema why are we supposedly about to drop 80m on him?Because he wants to go. He wants playing time in a World Cup year and Zidane wants to play Benzema even though a lot of Madrid fans prefer Morata.

It's a similar case, I imagine, to that of Chicharito's here when he decided he wanted to leave.
Next year being a World Cup year could have played a huge part in his decision. Right now, he is backup to Costa and will not be able to get ahead of him without being a starter for his club. Also, there is no guarantee that he'll get as much game time at Madrid next year with them looking to sign Mbappe. You have to praise Morata here because let's face it, this is a big step for him. He is clearly in the perfect comfort zone over at Madrid. He is playing for the best club in the world, in his home country with his newly wed wife and is actually getting game time at Madrid. Yet the lad has decided that his aspirations are higher than just being a back-up and wants to prove himself to be a leading striker at a top club. This is probably the first time that a Madrid player genuinely wants to play for us.
