This is a dreadful thread. Keeps on going in circles.

People saying we're paying too much for a reserve. People replying with his per minute goals ratio. Two days later, people asking the same question again.

There has been no update for over a week now, and yet there's a lot of pointless discussion going on.

Then why are people saying Lacazette isn't a Mourinho type of player?

Because Benzema is 187cm while Lacazette is 175cm and people put more importance on height than style when they talk about Mourinho.

First game of the group stage, so yeah it was an important match.

Let me rephrase my question, what if they had lost? They would have got knocked out in the group stage if they had lost? I don't mean to be aggressive though.

Most of the transfer threads are like that.

I gave you my answer, teams like Real Madrid wants to be qualified soon because they intend to play +60 games per seasons, so their goal is to have 10 points as soon as possible which allow them to rest players in late November-early December. So a winning goal during the first three games of the group stage is an important goal.

Whether £70-£80m is value for money, or not, is largely irrelevant - that's how much Morata costs.

We're probably going to have to accept we'll be paying that. As long as the player is good enough it doesn't matter in this particular case.

Is there actually another player, in the style Jose wants, who is good enough but cheaper? I can't think of one.

Is there one significantly better who we could get?

Well no, most of them in the past didn't have you spamming the thread.

The Fabinho thread is still active, even the Perisic thread. There is even a Dembele thread which I haven't read, AFAIK no reliable source has linked him with us.

Dembele wore a United shirt once or something so that's been the core piece of evidence running that thread into the disappointment bin

Never seen such a protracted saga for a bang average striker. Madrid sure know how to sell. I'd have taken the 60M offer and ran if he was playing for my team.

Does he not have a hairdresser or barber who can be interviewed regarding the transfer?
Or a private chef, perhaps?

Yep. You'd think we were trying to prise away a world class striker.

But he scores important goals for Real Madrid.

SARCASM. White text because people don't get it while I am being sarcastic probably because I suck at sarcasm.

He's not bang average and if he stays injury free, he'll prove that for us.

If he's bang average why Madrid the b2b CL winners are resisting selling him and keep the offer as high as possible to force us out of the deal ? They could have taken the 70m with pleasure as no one will offer higher than this.

They're getting us to pay for their Mbappe bid. They know we're desperate to do or business early and they can afford to drag this on until end of August and still get a deal on the last day.

Real I believe want the French lad but won't sell until they can secure the signing. That equally leaves the door open for the potential for a bid for Bale if he's no longer guaranteed a start. Just feels like people are waiting for the cogs to fall in place....

I said if they want to sell him they would have taken the 70m with pleasure as no other club will offer anything higher than this, and 70m will be more than enough to pay for Mbappe deal especially if they sold James too.

Madrid resisting at 90m even though we won't pay this proves they don't really want to sell him and they're valuing him much more than what you believe.

They are playing hardball just because we didn't give them DDG. They are acting like a stubborn kid.

Its either that or the deal is already done and waiting to be announced.

Used to pretend he was Russell Beardsmore in the school playground

Bang average striker who was highly rated by Juventus, Madrid, ManUtd, Milan and Chelsea? Madrid even exercised their buy back clause to sign him back. He is also regular for Spain NT.

While i don't think he is bang average madrid resisting selling is not much of a point, they may be back to back CL champions but since they did not pick him in any of the big cl games he had as impact on their winning the CL as you and i did.

Agree. Big Transfer announces are always for the maximum impact. New sponsorship deal, new kit, stock exchange opening......

Yeah he didn't play any part in their CL campaign but he is one of the reason why Juventus made it to the CL finals when they lost to Barca.

Really not true. Their squad depth was the main reason of their success last season. They played most of the games in the league of the last 2 months in the season with mixing reserves, the likes of Morata, Asensio, James and Isco and they all did the job and won them the league while letting the main starters get enough rest for the CL games. Ronaldo explosion at the end of the season was because he was managed very well and got enough rest to save his efforts for the last season push for important games. Their depth was the reason of their success and Morata and James are part of this depth.

What would be the reason for doing that?

Timing I suppose. I heard something similar happened with Pogba last year. Deal was done, including the recording of the Stormzy video, before he went on his USA holiday.
