Funny, I remember quite a few people reluctant to sign Pogba last year too.

They soon changed their mind after a few games of actually watching him though didn't they?
I'll never forget his debut against Southampton. He looked ridiculously good and was supposedly still out of shape.

Less actual reluctance to sign Pogba, more uncertain that we had a platform to ensure he'd play better than he did at Juventus.

Come on, Higher wage bill doesn't necessarily mean superior team. United has almost the same wage bill as RM for example, but are we as good as RM? Certainly not.

Look at how Celta Vigo played against us in the europa, especially in the second leg, they absolutely ran circles around us but they finished 11th in the spanish league.

Of course it doesn't guarantee a better team but it helps. Think of how many English players play in Spain, now contrast that to how many Spanish players play in the UK (including the lower leagues). Sure, language/cultural differences come into play but money is a huge factor. Overall, if you have talented players moving abroad your domestic league suffers unless you can bring in similar level/higher talent which requires money...

Just look at the comparative league tables this year - RM & Barca scored 106 & 116 goals this year. Chelsea (who finished level on 93 points like RM so a good comparison) only scored 85! Look at the other end of the table and Hull conceded the most goals with 80 this season, compared to Osasuna's 94...

Going back to the original point, surely the above points to the possibility that stats can be misleading for players coming from La Liga. If Harry Kane played teams that were, on average, slightly weaker you would expect him to slightly improve his stats right?

There were also lots of people excited about the signing of Schweinsteiger. It goes both ways. I'm pretty sure most have seen Morata play though as is the case with the Pogba.

And for what it's worth, as much as I'm in the pro-Pogba camp, the jury is still out on him as well.
People were excited about the name Schweinsteiger, they obviously thought he was still that good.

No chance have many people watched Morata often enough to say how good or bad he is. Only Real Madrid fans can honestly say that, and many of them don't want him to leave, that's good enough for me.

I hope this falls through if the price quoted is true.

Why? Would you rather the 550million we turn over every year due to the brilliant marketing by the club is spent on world tours, or lining the Glazers pockets, or maybe just sittting in the bank?

There's no point in us being the richest club in the world if we can't flex that muscle.

Have to say, fans who bleat 'that's too much money' baffle me. It ain't your cash.

I'm not saying Kane's not mobile - he can drop deep and play but, for me, he's more of a pure number 9 than Morata, who can operate anywhere around the front 3. Morata is quick, technically good, strong in the air and can hold the ball up effectively. His goal scoring record has regularly been questioned, his all round game hasn't.
All things Kane has also. I wouldn't say Morata is that much quicker than Kane. Maybe he is but I wouldn't call him lightning. More like RVN pace

I know it's not my cash and usually I would agree with you on that point but I just don't think he's all that.

That was my point though, people are drawn by "names" (or a lack thereof) in both directions.

Fair enough, but he was still only their backup striker after all. I'm not against the transfer per se, I'm just doubting that we should give in to Real's demands at all costs.

Thing is £80m may be mental but let's just say we go for the "cheaper" option in Lacazette who's clearly much less of a preffered target you just know Lyon are going to raise the price. Every team is going to take us to the cleaners and probably moreso if we move on from Morata (which we won't). Also take into account marketability I think Morata will make it the £20m in marketing and football as he's what Jose wants and fits the team better according to the bloke who sees the team every day up close.

Wrap it up and the next time Real try and flex their dick size we remember this and one up them. De Gea £150m to even enter talks then change the fee as we go along.

If Morata truly wants to join us, then him and his agent will take care of the situation. If not, then it's on to the next target.

The guy just left his honeymoon in the middle for getting the deal done. He left Ibiza for one reason, to hurry up the deal. Heavy weight deals takes time, especially one's involving Real Madrid.

Whats the proof that he actually left his Honey Moon half way. Maybe it was meant to be that long.
Sorry I am a bit pessimist when it comes to transfers, ever since Ronaldinho happened.

Either way, we are waiting until July to sign anyone. I would say for financial reasons.

....is this really true? surely it's his agents job to get the deal done.

You're right that it could have ended then anyway because that would have been 10 days long and as we all know according to Google honeymoons on average last between 10 and 14 days.

:D

Only proof you get is media reporting it including Ducker in the Telegraph and few other Spanish papers reported it.

That has prompted Morata to take the extraordinary step of briefly leaving his new wife to travel back to the Spanish capital in a bid to persuade Real not to create a protracted process and to grant him his wish of joining United before resuming his honeymoon.

Firstly, no Journalist knows why he came to Madrid (even if it's true he did). Secondly it is widely reported that morata is in agreement anyway and there's nothing left other than agreeing a fee with Perez. This does doesn't involve Morata anyway, so the news is a whole pile of nothing.

Several news outlets reported it, There was one with him on the Airport i guess. Also his wife latest insta pics were all selfies and with friends and none with Moratta.

Was watching united vs anderlecht (2nd leg quarter final), my God we were so wasteful. United are crying for a finisher, The only thing this team needs is a proper finisher and width on the right side. I am still not going to get my hopes high until it is on manutd official site.

Yeah, unless it's confirmed by club it's better to be pessimistic so that you won't be pissed off if transfer fails.

 at few asking for what proofs anyone have to believe some story or questioning journalists reporting some story, if that's what they believe then they should close all the transfer threads and keep on refreshing ManUtd.com. No player will keep on updating what's going on before the transfer is done, it's usually journalists who either makes up or gets some news from agents/club sources (which they won't name for obvious reasons)

There is no reason for anyone to leave their honeymoon in the middle unless it's urgent. If it's a Family emergency, then i'm pretty sure both would've left together, which is not the case. So, he is Madrid for business matters. There are several reasons for him coming to Madrid. Maybe he wants the deal to get completed before our Pre-season starts? to force Madrid hands? put pressure to get the deal done? pick anyone.

That's the thing, even with morata we are still going to need a RW/RF and we haven't been linked to a proper winger yet. Perisic is a LW and doesn't cut it for me

Yea but it is Manchester United you know, the love of my life ... can't help it
I keep coming to redcafe every hour, read all new tweets, every thread of possible major transfer target, then to reddit and newsnownet.
:wenger:

2 more than City and at least 9 more than anyone else.

Ibrahimovic missed at least 5 more big chances than any other player.
So we missed 2 more than City and 9 more than Arsenal.

They scored 26 and 23 more goals, respectively, than us. So clearly, it's not only finishing that was a problem. If that were the case, we should have missed 20+ chances more than City or Arsenal.

Exactly, width of the right side .... we are crying for it ... real time width as soon as we get the ball. Every match I see we have to wait for Valencia to come from right back, forward and it slows down our attack, gives us zero on the counter attack. A left footed winger maybe ?
There aren't many around I am afraid.

I think most follows the same routine ;)

Another problem is Valencia cannot cross the ball consistently. We need someone in the mould of lemar, Bernardeschi, Douglas Costa or Lucas Moura.

I think Mourinho is buying Perisic for that very purpose but it will fix our left side. I have lost count how many times I cursed Valencia for kicking the ball straight into opposition player's shin pads.

I wonder how Martial will fit and get a start ahead of Perisic and Rashford. It is sad really as he looked class in his first year. Morata will guarantee 30+ goals if he plays full season but he needs delivery from right side.

They should introduce phones and courier companies to him...

She looks like your average Polish / German woman. Nothing unique about her at all.

What's wrong with her exactly?
