Was there any doubt he'll be re-elected when he's the only candidate? :wenger:

An election candidate could have entered the race at any point leading up to deadline day, so his position was not as secure as one might think.

In any case he has no excuses anymore. This deal needs sorting.

Yeah but without a proper campaign is like entering the USA presidential elections in the last week. It was pretty much clear he won't be challenged.

I wouldn't read too much in it tbh.

I really hate dealing with Madrid. They tried to bring De Gea 2 years ago, spend whole summer flirting with him and wanted him for less than £20m. When they didn't make it, they up their bid on the last day and include Navas in the deal. On the last feckin day in the last hours of the transfer window. It isn't easy to conclude one deal at that time, not to mention paperwork for both.

If that deal, a pretty straightforward one, was so complicated with them, can only imagine what this looks like. Hope we take Morata from them and don't come back for a long time.

This is going so slow, it's dropped off the front page of the football forum.

Any news on this transfer the last few days??

After the speculation with Ronaldo and now some loose rumours about Lewa I really hope we sign Morata up as fast as possible.

He is at the right age, can only get better, wants to play for us (the most important imo) and is a player our manger no doubt rate a lot. I really hope our board has not been dragged on a goose chase after unrealistic targets.

The more I have thought about this transfer, the more sense it makes. We need to get players who want to be here, and appreciate how big historic club this is. And who also is up to the challenge of making us competitive again.

Heard a rumor that I made up

The Ronaldo news was a deflection away from Morata so when Madrid sells the latter to us, Perez and the club look more favorably to the fans having kept Cristiano.

According to yesterdays Guardian Football Weekly, Jose is calling Morata on an almost daily basis.

Think it's just a matter of time to be honest.

That's not bad.

Could be a journalist, this would be on the front page somewhere.

It wouldn't surprise me if we've moved on. You can't stall a deal to look at other players and then expect the first guy to still want to come when the others don't.

That happens literally every single transfer window all over Europe. It's called negotiations.

Its not us who stalled the deal , Its madrid. They are expecting unrealistic over inflated money to fullfill their fantacy to sign overprized kid mbappe.

He is on honeymoon. Highly unlikely to be any news this week beyond paper speculation.

You're talking about a top quality player here, who probably has multiple options. He's leaving Real because he is on the fringes. What sort of message does it send when we stop pushing the deal and apparently start talking to other options. Didn't one journo say he's still awaiting a 'firm' offer from us?

ManUtd can't do much if journalists link us with every possible player.

Btw Morata's agent said ball is in Madrid's court now, they have to make decision on the offer. So offer is made.

Because of the price tag, it's difficult to see many clubs interested and can't see him staying in Madrid especially while they openly chase Mbappe.

That said, I think Chelsea are the only real danger. They still need a striker as much as we do, Lukaku is even more expensive and Conte likes Morata.

I think that he assess the situation through Mourinho and especially his agent and not through journo's reports.

If my future (supposedly) boss would keep calling me on my honeymoon I wouldn't be too happy

We've apparently already agreed terms with the player. It's Madrid holding up.
If you want to be believe everything in the media, then according to Perez we havent even made a bid for him. So its not Madrid holding up the deal its us.

I just hope to God that Morata isn't our only attacker signing this summer.

We need goalscorers added to the team desperately.

Seriously, if this guy wants to come, he and his agent need to put some pressure on Perez. If he's unwilling to push for the move, then we should move on quickly, as it would mean he's not that keen on coming here. If that is the case, we move on quickly and let Perez get his 90M Euros from someone else.
