Di Marzio still left open a chance that a big club comes in as competition. But the wife will decide this one.

Think Jose hasn't been as realistic with his choices as he promised.
I doubt the Italy angle came up until recently as Milan shouldn't be able to afford him and weren't on the radar.

It is still dubious how UEFA will allow AC Milan spend so much money when they are in so much debt. What then is the point of the FFP if they keep excusing the big ones but clamp down on Roma and Inter

@OohAahMartial
Martial is not a Neymar. That is what Mourinho meant by realistic.

Sure. But it's not incredible to think that the club could convince him to come.
Few right now would say it is realistic. Similarly, how hard would it have been to ask Griezmann two months ago if he would still come if the CAS upholds the transfer ban--and make some enquiries as to the legal likelihood of the outcome.

I think you're twisting what it is. Van Gaal wanted people like Neymar and Bale (supposedly) and Mourinho said realistic to mean not them.

I don't care.
Both Neymar and Bale were not for sale, while Morata is. Failure of the club to sign him does not mean it is not realistic cos we have a reasonable chance of signing him.

If we miss out on Di Marzio's list of Morata, Mbappe and Griezmann, you don't think we have perhaps been a little unrealistic or not done our homework properly?

Nope cos we are not the only club in the world and there other factors outside our control. A target is unrealistic only if there is almost zero chance of getting him. This is not the case so far.

Your standard for unrealistic is very different to mine.

Def: Realistic - Something such as a goal or target that is realistic is one which you can sensibly expect to achieve.

what do define as a realistic target - a player begging to join or an already signed player?

You set unrealistic as an almost zero chance of getting the player. I would probably go for less than 25 chance of getting the player. We are allowed different definitions as there is no defined value of what is a sensible expectation.

Even by your definition, all the targets so far can considered as realistic.
Griezmann - expressed enough interest to join and the club's failure to reach an agreement with Pathetico on a payment plan and/or being unwilling/unable to fork out the 100m in single payment cannot be placed on Mourinho.
Mbappe - I doubt was ever a genuine target. Mourinho is not one to splash on an unproven teenager
Morata - Morata was also a viable target and the sudden interest from Milan and their ability to pay the fee was unexpected, leaving one question what is the point of FFP when a club that has been bleeding 80m+ for over 3yrs can be planning to spend 100m+ this summer with the approval of UEFA

Spanish media saying Milan have prepared up to 70 million euro and will make him fulcrum of their new project.

Inflation in the football world has gone mad. At the rate we're going, a half a billion euro player is perhaps only 4, 5 years away from happening.

Alfonso Morata (Alvaro's father): "The only club that has contacted Real Madrid is Manchester United."

It's not really what he said though. He was asked if United is the only club that made contact and he replied with: "You are a great journalist."

I just can't get excited over Morata. Something about him. Feel as if his ceiling isn't high enough.

The journo says something like 'I hope the offer is for 40m so he doesn't have to move there'

I'm hearing he has a girlfriend. I now hate him.

The players available this summer just aren't exciting enough it's very annoying.

They are, we're just not pursuing the exciting ones or prioritised other players. Half of Monaco's squad is extremely exciting, so is Aubemyang, Lacazette, Griezmann etc.

What?

We were or are pursing the latter two players on your list?

Well yes, we really should have signed Silva can't believe we let City have a free run at that so frustrating. I know you're supposed to trust the manager but the names we're being linked with are not the kind of team we should be aspiring to be. If we have indeed dropped interest in Griezmann (who really knows) in favour of trying to pursue Bale it's an absolute shambles.

He's only a back up striker at Madrid isn't he? Hopefully we'll get him at a knockdown price then.

Di Marzio said Griezmann was always the third priority on our list behind Morata, Belotti etc. thus, prioritising other players as I said. Also didn't that very reliable French journalist say we're not even looking at Lacazette?

Bizarrre if the world's third best player (according to Ballon D'or voting) was lower in priority behind another team's back up striker.

That actually means the opposite doesn't it? It sounds like a sarcastic dig at yet another journo banging on about United

TBF to them, Griezmann isn't a proper number 9, which is what we wanted. Agree though, really don't know what the feck is going on this transfer window.

1 in 3 scoring record, Spanish Giroud who is going to cost 50 million. No thanks.

So by no means prolific, I'm not a huge admirer of his but Jose has worked with him before which should make me happy I guess.
He averages a goal every 89 minutes in the league this season though, better than Ronaldo.

He is so 'unprolific' that only Messi has a better goal per min ratio than him in la liga. He has scored more goals than Benzema and Bale while mostly coming off the bench and playing fewer minutes.
