Still not 100% convinced we should sign Morata..

He's got some quality that's for sure. However, is he 70m+ quality? Additionally his heart is clearly in Madrid and as soon as he starts being (very) successful with us there will be the same story as with DDG - again and again and again..

Of course there are limited alternatives on the market but I am still not sure if he would be that much of an upgrade compared to someone like Martial, who - when plaing as a striker - has already proven that he can deliver. Anyways, we will see what happens..

Let's be honest, the transfer fees have gone insane, even £89 million for Pogba is already looking like a bargain 1 year later...

If we win silverware with him does it really matter? We'll buy someone else and Madrid can have him back for 140m.

But I seriously doubt he'd go back after being sold off twice!

Not necessarily. It's possible that after joining Juventus and being wanted by Madrid again, and subsequently signing for them again that he got that out of his system already. When he leaves this time it'll likely be for good. Besides, players do leave Real and have success elsewhere without returning, Robben being the most obvious example.

Not so sure about that to be honest.
I think his dream is still to make it at Madrid, thus, he would take the chance to go back in my opinion.

I don't know why you'd think that tbh. There isn't anything to suggest he would want to go back. If anyththing the fact that he's determined to go elsewhere for more game time suggests otherwise.

I can see this being wrapped up this week sometime. Probably around £59m or something. I can't see us paying anything like the figures quoted.

It's just that his goal tally is shit tbh. The guy managed 15 goals in 65 matches for a dominant side like Juventus in Serie A.

He started only 27 league games in 2 seasons in Serie A.

So, is this kid gonna be our #1 CF, do you reckon? Or will we sign another striker?

Some signings I have an instinctive feeling will be underwhelming or have a high 'flop' potential.

I had this feeling with Zlatan, and was proved totally wrong.

Have it again massively with this signing, hopefully I'm wrong again.

Simon Stone BBC

It is expected to be a busy week at Manchester United.
It is anticipated further progress will be made in the attempt to sign striker Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid.

In theory, that transfer has been helped by Real distancing themselves from David de Gea.

However, there is an alternative view - that Real will drive the price up for Morata, knowing two of United's other targets, Antoine Griezmann and Romelu Lukaku, appear out of reach, then come back in for De Gea and attempt to drive the price down.

The De Gea bit seems like pure speculation, but maybe the negotiations are more drawn out than we thought.

Hopefully a goalscoring number 10. Mata as good as he is isn't quite up to the level we require to be winning the league.

They will attempt to fleece us for Morata, then attempt to screw us over De Gea? How does that work, exactly? If they attempt to make us pay over the odds, we will do exactly the same thing to them. Or just tell them to piss off entirely. Which would be my preferred outcome.

I don't think we'll attempt to do the deal with Madrid for Morata if we are serious about keeping De Gea and not allowing him to go anywhere

My thoughts exactly  makes not a word of sense.

The De Gea part is pure speculation on Stone's behalf. However, it wouldn't surprise me if Madrid are making this stupidly drawn out because of our past clashes on transfers.

IMO, there is probably alot of "fax anger" going into these discussions and making things tediously long.

Not so sure about that to be honest.

Well until then he has to work for it....and I hope we reap the benefits.

Why Madrid is getting rid of this guy? He is young and if he is also good...why?

Ronaldo will never be benched, they like benzema because of the link up play with ronaldo and perez wants his shiny new toy (Mbappe)

Morata outscored Benzema, he's a very good striker.

Simple we quote de geas price as morata plus 25 m €. Now it's up to them to decide morata's and de gea's price, if de gea forces his move which I don't think he will.

unless outlets like COPE start running these stories about Chelsea or De Gea, it's all BS. Simple. AS/SPORT/MARCA etc etc are absolute dogshite.

You guys will have a hell of a striker in your hands, maybe i can give you a bit of an insight(considering i watched all of his games for juve):
The guy is a beast, what he thrives on is mostly counteratacking football and you will be suprised how pacey he is and how good he moves off the ball. But what really makes him great player to have in your squad is he is clutch af, big game player and i can assure you he won't hide in those derbies. I think he will suit perfectly into Mourinhos playstyle, considering he also tracks back and contributes in deffence. TBH i was a lot more frustrated of the loss of Morata and Vidal, than i was when we lost Pogba, so that should speak for itself.
Anyway a lot of you that havent watched him and judge him only on his stats will be in for a big suprise!

Exactly. I can't believe people prefer Lukaku over him. Lukaku maybe PL proven (even there he rarely turns up against quality opposition) but Morata has done it in the fecking Champions League against Bayern and Real.

Let the brute go to Chelsea. I want the class act

This. Also, if we REALLY want Morata we'd blow Chelsea out of the water.

This comment will be lost on most readers lol

Funnily enough, I was saying only yesterday that it was strange that Conte is not in for Morata as he signed him for Juve and also tried to sign him for Chelsea last summer - maybe they were just waiting for it to be confirmed that Madrid would sell
