We'll probably only bringing in Felliani.

Yep. Too late now for a CM but that's what we need. Not another no 10.

I would like to know if the players we have been targeting are the one Sir Alex wanted or if we have ignored all the groundwork done by the previous regime and are suffering for not doing our homework properly and are now in panic mode.

We're a superbly run club and SAF's still here. Should be a straightforward answer DT.

Rather panic mode its more of a skint mode. 25m for Fab, 28m for Felliani and Baines.....some of the bids we placed border to the ridiculous.

In that case who do we blame if we end up with no one and I doubt Fellaini was Sir Alex's idea? I know we were superbly run, but no saying that will still be the case. Sir Alex and David Gill might not want to interfere as it would undermine the manager and new chief executive. Hopefully the will do better in the transfer window next season.

By the way I am in a bit of a rant mood as I have toothache and am not going to dentist until Friday. My mood might not get better until then.:)

There's too many variables to know who to blame if we dont address the CM issue tbh. My only issue has been the seemingly absent plan B in case we didnt get Fabregas (as moyes said we needed 2 CMs) and the ridiculous bids for him in the 1st place. We should have atleast tested Barca's resolve.

I mentioned somewhere else that I felt we were giving in too easily and doing that made it appear that the bids were just for show and not serious. We know how much Fabregas is worth, why not bid just under it, you might then be lucky. To make the bids we did was madness.

I dont think it was just for show as it wouldnt benefit anyone but yeah, it made no sense. Specially once they'd sold Thiago.

This is a google translation from the El Confidencial article. You can see that the latest update has been sat on top of the original article, as opposed to re-writing it. The original article was published at 6am Spain time, so if he was in the UK he and Daddy have been doing a lot of jet setting.

"Mesut Özil confirmed Wednesday that wanted to play for Real Madrid. The German midfielder went to his presentation as new player of the Adidas brand, which announced its intention to remain connected to the set target. The German even confirmed, as announced by The Confidential, which has offers on the table from other clubs, but his intention is to follow in Madrid entity, unless the directive had intention to discard the German international.
In act that was not Question Time, except those made by the German journalist who took the leap Adidas, announced his intention to remain ahead of Madrid player this season: "I totally identified with the club and with peers . Many things are said in the press and although it is true that there is interest from other teams, opuedo ensure that I am only thinking about Madrid ".
The United bid for Ozil
Mesut Özil knows he has offers from abroad. The Manchester United and is preparing a bid to be submitted in the next few hours and be around 40 million euros. Player advisers and his father are in the English city closing the deal with the former club of Cristiano Ronaldo to official thereupon make a proposal to purchase the German midfielder.Özil, who is now scheduled a promotional event with Adidas, believes that leaders of the organization Madrid do not value their potential and work inside the equipment. The seven million euros per season looking to win involves an isolation barrier Florentino Perez and Jose Angel Sanchez. One and others walk the paths very different and not forgive the noble attitude shown by the Turkish-born player in the last two games."

The twit didn't say that Ozil himself was in the UK, i think. It was his father and agents involved

But then if he was in a Adidas presentation which sponsors his current club kit, i'm sure he will have to say what he said about staying at Madrid first of all

My mistake. You are quite right.

I'm so embarrassed.

I didn't say I was embarrassed, or pinning any blame on the anyone at the club.

I just think it's disappointing to have been linked with so many top level players and we haven't so far managed to pull off a single deal for any of them. Thiago, Fabregas, Modric, Ozil, Baines and Fellaini have all been pursued to some extent and according to who you believe, we've possibly looked at Willian, Ronaldo and Bale too. It even looks like Kondogbia may move now, and there's a strong chance Cabaye will go to Arsenal.

It would be good if we could actually achieve the signing of one of our transfer targets. I'm not being a muppet, or having a knee-jerk, but it is getting boring constantly being linked with players, only for them to either sign for a different club or stay where they are.

Time is running out in the transfer window and we have a huge game against Liverpool on Sunday. I hope we bring someone in sooner rather than later and Moyes can focus on getting the team prepared for the game this weekend.

Gottit. It's still a bit perplexing. How, then, is us handing our rivals the title the right decision?

The premise was that if Chelsea offered £80m for Rooney then the right decision would be to sell, even if that meant Chelsea would definitely win the league.

I call bullshit tbh. The right decision imo would indeed be to sell, but only because it wouldn't necessarily mean Chelsea win the league.

If somehow Chelsea's acquisition of Rooney meant that they were guaranteed to win the league then selling him to them for £80m would be a mistake, because obviously Rooney in that scenario would be a far better player than he currently is and any player who can guarantee league titles has got to be worth more than £80m.

You just need to stop believing what the papers say is all.

How do they define "Clear-cut chances"?

That said you don't need stats to know that Ozil's one of if not the the most creative players in the world

It has nothing to do with changing the scenario so that hypothetically Rooney is a better or worse player and worth a different amount.

The point was that Rooney is worth around £35-40million, so selling him for £80million gives us a huge profit over his market value. Even if it meant Chelsea win the league next year the overall benefit to the club would be greater to sell Rooney, rather than write off £80million plus £10million per year in wages and winning the league.

The point was just that there are more considerations than simply winning the league at all costs.

He scored 1 goal vs Azerbaijan and 2 vs Faroe Islands, the rest came against decent teams.

Just had a look, 'decent' is being pretty generous to the likes of Ireland, South Africa, and Austria, and 3 of his goals were penalties. It's not intended as a criticism, more a reason for the difference, International football is just not up to the standards of the major leagues imo. His goalscoring record for Madrid is far more telling than his record for Germany.

Ok, well in my opinion the fee is pretty irrelevent unless we're guaranteed to reinvest that money in the squad (which we're not). So it then simply comes down to whether or not selling Rooney would weaken us as a football team, and consequently make it less likely that we win trophies (which is to a large extent what it's all about). It obviously would, him throwing stroppy fits or not. Add to that the fact that we'd be strengthening a rival, and it's obvious that selling Rooney reduces our chances of winning an important trophy. How is that the right decision? Even if it's not guaranteed that they win the league with him, improving their chances while reducing ours is clearly a bad play.

In principle the idea that sometimes you've got to take a hit now to have a better chance of success in the future isn't inherently wrong, I just don't see how it applies here.

Spanish gossip. Madrid are still waiting for a bid for Ozil. We apparently are waiting for the outcome to the "Rooney situation" before deciding whether to go for him. Incidentally they also repeated the rumour that Kagawa may have been offered (by someone?) to Atletico on loan.

Surely the signing of Eto'o has drawn a line under the "Rooney situation"?

Surely the Spanish gossip was just bullshit.. However it will be up Perez whether he leaves not Ozil regardless what he said.

More stories emerging on twitter that us and PSG are trying to get him.

IF we did get him, which we wont...doesnt he play in same position as rooney/kagawa?

feck. It seems he might be going to Arsenal.
