I didn't say he faded in the big games for the nationalteam, I said, he didn't do enough to justify his free role without any defensive duties.

You said he does feck all defensively and he takes his time outs during the game where he's nowhere to be seen, so that could count as fading, right?

Yes, but he does that in all games. He was still our best player in the Euro semi final against Italy while doing that, so I would hardly call it fading in the big games.

Yes, but it in big games when his team struggles it becomes more obvious. I am not saying he is poor in every big game, it's just I rarely see him putting some good performances in those.

I don't think he played great in both the CL games last season against us, and that was the only occasions i had seen him play for 90 odd minutes

I'm a big fan of his, he plays with a certain effortless style that I love to watch. I remember the friendly between France and Germany where him and Gundogan were untouchable.

If you cut the eyes out of the paper bag, he'd look like a sock puppet with those sticky on goggle eyes.

Oh dear, this is getting ridiculous

It's Mehzut Ozil

Might we ended up buying him? Probably not

But let's not kid ourselves, that guy is quality and if you take away your red tinted glass and actually put your football perspective, any team would want to have him in the squad, specially a team with a midfielder like us.

All this talk about stamina, fading, going missing etc is just bitter talking, we have Cleverly/Anderson/Giggs to partner carrick, and its daft not to want Ozil

Except Ozil wouldn't partner Carrick, nor could he replace him should he become injured.

He's not a central midfielder, which renders most of your arguments void. Also the fading thing is undeniable, Mourinho actually mentioned it himself once.

But nonetheless I agree that any team including United would want him.

I thought he was their best player over two legs personally. Always looking for the ball and the most likely to open United up with his scheming.

We won't be addressing our team's weakness.... CM. Modric would improve our team more imo.

Definitely. Would love Modric but can't see them selling at all. Ozil would be a wierd signing in that sense, as he doesn't stop the reliance on Carrick

If we signed Ozil it'd probably be as a replacement for Rooney though. Ozil would also be by far our most creative player which would take that burden of the CMS somewhat, meaning that we could get by with a more workman-like player beside Carrick.

Oh yeah if we sold Rooney it would make sense, even then I would still prefer the focus to be on a Modric/Vidal but you could understand the desire for Ozil.

The point is, with special player like Ozil, formation will change to accommodate him, just like we evolve when we lost Keane

It's like saying we don't need maradona because he's not a midfielder, if such a player is available, manager will find spot for him

Another thing I might add is that with Ozil, we don't need a Carrick, a simple Jones / Anderson / or Fellaini will do the trick, since Ozil will do most in the creativity department.

Hence all in all overs us flexibility, finding a one for one replacement for Carrick won't be cheap and definetely won't be much easier, we'll be looking for someone who can defend and create as well

But just to repeat, you can't play Ozil next to another CM, Carrick or Fellaini or whoever, at the base of midfield. He's an attacking midfielder, playing either on the right or in the middle of the '3' of a 4231.

He doesn't play in the middle of the 3 now. So don't know where you got that from. He play anywhere in an attacking three. Whether that looks like 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1.

I don't think the poster your replying to was imply he played next to Carrick anyway.

Ozil is fecking doshbonger, no way we should pass it up if we get the chance to add his goggle eyed goodness to our team, we already have enough straight line wingers, adding another versatile creator in the mold of Kaggy would be splooge central.

I mean, he was quality that season in Germany and the contract situation was already there. As I remember it there wasnt even talk of Madrid till late on in the tournament after he was consistantly brilliant

With Eddie 'i'm clueless' Woodward at the helm and with only few days of the transfer window remaining we would be lucky to sign Frank Spencer!

We were linked, I remember everyone getting excited about Ferguson going to Craven Cottage to see Bremen play Fulham. I think he just wanted to go to Madrid while that was the stage where it really did look like we were struggling financially in the market, we lost Ronaldo and Tevez in 2009 and then spent about £40m in total in 2009 and 2010 with a lot of that going on players who seemed to be punts (some of whom have been excellent).

Ozil would be a great replacement for Rooney, definite star player. If we did bid 40-45m for him, whilst would be great if he signed, can't help but feel would have been great if we'd made that sort of offer for Fabregas who would bring even more to the team.

Spanish Journalist.

Yes, Fred was on Punto Pelota last night as well when it was being discussed.

He was the one who denied that Arsenal have made a bid for Benzema.
