Are the likes of Tuanzebe, Garner, Gomes and Chong available for this game?

Tuanzebe still rehabbing and Ole said Garner has been ill and so is playing for the Academy on Monday to get match fitness back. I would expect Chong and Gomes to be on the bench at least and frankly I would start them just to give the senior players a rest.

    Romero
    Williams Jones Lindelof Young
    Matic Pereira
    Mata Lingard Chong
    Greenwood

    Subs: Gomes, Dalot, James

    Thanks!

Whats status on Bailly and Rojo?

LVG fluked a win in it so we should try to go for it even if we have the League cup as well. Need to bloody go for winning things. Given up the cups to stay in the league is what the bottom teams do and I guess we are moving into that direction.

We don't have the squad to be fighting on 4 fronts - injuries and lack of depth in the forward areas. Europa is a crapshoot, with League Cup we are at least already in the semis and top 4 is still a good possibility if we can keep our key players fit and not exhausted. Missing out on CL will result in us losing money on the shirt deal plus potential to sign players - so league and Europa for now get priority.

No one said about not trying to win but, we can't try to get to all 4 goals with the same players, so we need to prioritize which competitions will see us use more of the fringe/youth players and right now it has to be the FA cup.

Think we will see two very different teams than normal. Both teams will think they have bigger priorities than the FA cup

Not sure with wolves. Jota is out but i remember we thought they'd rotate last season and didn't.

As this is only a third round we'll certainly have to prioritise Tuesday.
Not much to rotate with though.

Moutinho and Neves vs Fred and Matic.
    Adama Traore against Luke Shaw.
Jimenez and Jota against Maguire and Lindelof.

They'll be raring at home, and we can hardly get a jog out of our left back when 2-0 down to Arsenal.
Unless Rashford/Martial have one of their magical games, we're in for a very painful watch.

Pretty sure i read Jota is out at least.

I just watched the presser and felt embarrassed for Ole squirming when answering questions on Pogba.
The only thing I could understand from what he said was that it was a new ankle injury which he must have picked up in the last half he played and he has had scans and there will be an operation and he will be back playing in three to four weeks.
I wish he would stop trying to deflect issues by going back to his playing days.

If Laird is fit, I would start him at RB, with Williams at LB, Maguire, Lindelof and AWB in a back three, AWB could slot on the right of the three, or just in front of the back two to get in tackles on forward moving midfielders, he won't win many headers. Fred and Pereira in a slightly more advanced role with Rashford, Martial and Greenwood up front. If Gomes is available, then possibly play him in the point of a diamond, with any two of the strikers up front.

No idea on this. If Rashford sticks in a performance we could win, but he should probably be rested.

I would rather focus on getting back into the champions league via top 4. We are worse off now than under LVG, and our squad is even thinner.

We are in a better position now based on position in the league at the same point in time. Didn't have a league cup semi though.

Yeah it is much more thin in midfield now and I guess it hurt you more having to replace that part of the team compared to fullbacks and central defenders.
Jackson as an example did pretty well even if Valencia and Shaw our main fullbacks missed most of the season. He was mostly better than Darmian and Rojo anyway who also had injuries. Mensah did well too when we had a crisis with central defenders.
Also Rooney being injured was mostly a blessing forcing us to use Rashford in the end rather than just hearing LVG saying my captain shall always play.

Still I think great that we at least won that cup with all the injuries. I give credit to LVG for it even if the football was bloody dire in order to get it. Main reason was our easy draw with also all the other big guns being knocked out by smaller sides.
Not as easy this time around though and teams like City are much stronger and more focused on the cups now. Liverpool can hopefully fail again in the cups so that should help us a lot.

Even though all signs point to an obvious "Wolves want it badly enough to play us off the park and we lose 0-2 in one of our trademark vanilla do these guys give any shits at all? Do they have any shame?" performances I have this weird feeling we'll score early and then battle the game out and win by a goal with both teams scoring. It just has this "United need something here and they might just try hard enough to arse it" vibe.

I'd love these 6 to feature:
    Galbraith Puigmal
    Greenwood ----- --------------- James
    Ramazani Martial
That won't happen of course, but I'd love to see it nonetheless. Rashford and Fred both need a rest

I remember hating football while LVG was in charge, save for those games against Liverpool. With his style/philosophy I think it would be easier for players like Matic and Mata to fit in, as the game was about possession and maintaining a specific spot on the grass, not about attacking and running and athleticism. (I'm being a little hyperbolic).

With the squad Ole has at his disposal, we function only when playing a counter-attacking style, and only when our top players actually play. If Rashford and Martial and Greenwood (in any combination) get injured, we have no forwards. We could play the vaunted 4-6-0 formation, maybe. Our midfield is on life support with McTominay and Pogba out. Matic, Pereira, and Fred are no one's idea of an exciting, capable midfield - at least not top flight standard.

We might get to see Garner, Hamilton, and a bunch of other youth teamers get to play, and I will hope they win, but this squad has no chance of winning the Cup, so we need to be cautious.

All that changes if we get any new players in this transfer window!

The FA cup should hardly be a priority for us at this point of time, given that it's just the third round.

I'd give starts to Williams and laird and axel, if he's fit. Greenwood to start for sure, though not sure beyond that who would play.

Expecting us to loose the game and frankly speaking, I don't even care much about this one.

I know the idea won't be popular but honestly I'd rest all the 1st XI this match. They all look so exhausted last match and if we don't want to risk anymore injure, we should rest them this match imo.

Agree. I wouldn’t start the front three, Fred or Matic against City either.

Rest Fred. He's probably likely going to play against City anyway so we need to rest him and give Garner a chance. I think Rashford will start but if I got to choose, I'll rest him. Going to play Romero in both Wolves & City games, deserve to play in cup games imo.

Maguire has been playing lot of games, makes sens to rest him but our only option is Jones. What a sad option. :(

    Romero
    Young Lindelof Jones Williams
    Matic Garner
    Lingard Mata James
    Greenwood

Edit: Oh shit Garner is injured/ill?? Well, Pereira in CM role again then. :(

    Flood the midfield.

They will play 3-5-2 with Jota/Jimenez causing havoc if we go 4-3-3.

Let’s go 3-5-2 as well, like for like

Just don't embarrass ourselves today. I can see it happening..don't even want to think of our Supertanker speed midfield that is going to get eaten alive.

Can't be asked to do watch today. Not feeling the love

Never understood this attitude. Do you only watch when we are at our best?

With such a thin squad, I would rather we rest Rashford, Martial, Fred and McGuire at a minimum and get James off after the first 60.

This a game for Mata, Young et al.

Not feeling confident about this one at all. Our bogey team that we’ve failed to beat in 4 attempts. Won’t be surprised if Ole matches Wolves with a 3-5-2

It looks like you’re just naming random historical figures.

McTominay, Pogba, Martial, Lingard out along with the long term injured ones. Man, our squad depth is taking a hit. This is going to be such an insanely rough month.

That is pretty much our best side though if Martial is out. Yes James can play too in our normal system and AWB would be fullback then, but for 3-5-2 it is our best players with the current squad and injuries.
